Yeah, you can either keep the current one for one more month or change after the first month.

A really inventive idea, you may patent it.

A message board system which checks whether message is identical as one posted before, in case of which it is discarded, and automatically merges additional messages from last participant reducing need of post editing.
 
To be honest, I'm surprised it's not even implemented on phpBB3. I should add it when I have time.
