Re: Interview of Michel Ancel: the fans ask the questions!

Post by Fraz »

Here are some questions that popped up in my head:

- How many people are currently working on Origins?

- What game(s) (if any) inspired you to create Rayman?

- How difficult will this game be? Will there be difficulty settings?

- Is Globox proud that he received the 'character with the biggest butt' award?

- How's Beyond and Evil 2 coming along?

Thanks for taking the time to answering our questions!

I have to hope at least something makes it into the final! :)

1) What is Rayman's future? Can we expect a new 3D game after origins?
2) How were the creative idea's of Band Land and Picture City invented?
3) Can we expect a 2D game for 3DS besides Origins?
4) Why was The General replaced by Razorbeard?
5) How come there is so much difference between the first game and all its sequels? Rayman 2 has a different atmosphere and features a natural world unlike Rayman 1.
6) Will there ever be HD collection? Many people have been wanting that.
7) Are there any chances the cancelled Rayman 4 will be released?
8) How do you unlock 2D Nightmare?

This question may stop the discussion so we can ensure everything:

-Is the dark teensy-like creature that we saw in the second trailer Mr. Dark? If it is, why did you decide to turn him into a teensy?

-Is Mr. Dark the main antagonist?

-We saw a lot, but are we going to see more surprise characters from rayman 1, 2 or maybe 3?

-Why do we have to collect lums?

-We saw a weird item caught into a bubble that when you touch it, a big cyan heart appears for a second, what is this item for? is that an extra life?

And yes, I really, REALLY want to know this one:

-Why are there like 4 or 5 teensies with different costumes? are we able to choose more than 4 characters? are those unlockable? are they console-exclusive?

I was joking with the ''more-people'' thing
But that makes 4.

Here are my questions. The first five are the ones I asked for the Official Nintendo Magazine interview which hasn't happened so far, but the three last ones are new.
  • Will the game become more "serious" as you progress or will it keep its wacky nature?
  • Do you think we will see DLC?
  • Will Rayman Origins come to PC as well? That would be great.
  • The UbiART framework looks very interesting. When do you think you will be able to release it to the public?
  • Can't wait till Rayman Origins comes out, but what will happen after that? Do you think you will be able to make more 3D Rayman games in the unique style of Rayman 2?
  • Will we see an HD collection of the original Rayman games? It was rumoured once but we never heard more.
  • The soundtrack you're releasing in the Collector's Edition of Rayman Origins is the first in Rayman history. Is there any chance the other games' official soundtracks will also be made available?
  • Lots of stuff got cut during development: the 2D version of Rayman 2, the amazing Rayman 4 prototype... They're all just lying around at Ubisoft now, forgotten in a dark, dusty cellar. Not by us fans though! Is there any chance you will release them somehow so all that work won't have been for nothing? Maybe as bonus material for Rayman Origins?

I won't be hasty.I'll give it a try!

1. Will Murfy and Ly return in Rayman Origins? Ly seemed to already know Ly in Rayman 2 so I think Ly in Rayman Origins would make sense...

2.Will the players be able to choose Globox or a Teensie while playing alone in Rayman Origins?

3.I remember that in Rayman 1 there were things that suddenly appeared with a small white flash and a short noise. Will this happen in Rayman Origins?

4.Will it be difficult to find the cages in Rayman Origins?

5.Who's the mosquito shown in the trailer? Bzzit or Moskito? And will he make more appearances or will he only appear in one level? Will he help you in other ways or only by letting you ride him?

6.Many Wii users are worried about the Wii version losing a lot of quality. Will the Wii version have the same levels and music track than the PS3 and XBOX360 versions? And will the Wii version use the motion capabilities?

7.We've seen a hunter and a tall livingstone in the trailers. Will small livingstones and enemies from Rayman 2 and 3 appear?
Or just things from Rayman 1 and the Lums will reappear?

8.Will the Shell/Walking Bullet return?

9.What will the Photographer seen in the trailer do? Is he a checkpoint or he marks the end of a level?

10.Will the characters have unlockable skins?

11.Will we have some kind of downloadable content?

12. We have seen 3 Teensie Wizard colours: Orange,Blu and Black. Will the colour depend on the version, will they be downloadabe or purchaseable with Lums or were they just beta designs?

13.Could you reveal the environments we'll see in Rayman Origins?

14.What kind of new powers will Rayman get?

15.We have seen Yellow and Red Lums in the trailers you have released. Are the Blue,Green and Purple Lums reappear?

16.Are you planning to release the cancelled Rayman 4?

I have to say that EVERY question but the last one (16) refer to Rayman Origins

Will Rayman Origins be coming to the PC?

Do you have any plans to release an official level editor for Rayman Origins fans similar to Rayman Designer- or if you don't would you be able to do something like that?

Do you have plans to extend the life of Rayman Origins beyond the retail release? (DLC such as extra levels, characters etc?)

Rayman Origins is coming for PC in 2012.
1.Any plans, if you do Rayman Origins 2?
2. Ly should be back at the Rayman Origins 2?

Wow wow wow! I have another one!

-The grimace is an iconic movement in almost every Rayman game, will it make a return in Rayman Origins?

  • Rayman 1, 2 and 3 had very loose continuity. The characters from one game usually disappeared without trace in the next, old environments were never revisited and previous events were rarely referenced. However, Rayman Origins seems to be changing all this by bringing back many friends, enemies and locations from the previous games. Why has your focus on continuity suddenly increased? Has it been difficult to weave together the other games’ storylines and finally make the Glade of Dreams cohesive?
  • The magical, mysterious atmosphere invoked by the games’ dreamlike landscapes and ancient temples is considered by some fans to be one of the most special aspects of the Rayman series. Has setting the right ambience to capture the player’s imagination been one of your major design goals?
  • The GameCube version of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc contains an exclusive minigame called 2D Nightmare. We’ve been trying to figure out how to unlock it for several years, but we’ve made no progress. Could you tell us?
  • Would you be interested in expanding the Rayman brand into other media, such as comics, films, books or television series? If a Rayman film were to be made, who would you like to direct it?

Those are great questions Spiral! Agree with all of them. :)

I suspect those who have posted extensive lists of Rayman Origins questions are wasting their time. ‘Will X character be in Rayman Origins?’, ‘Will Rayman have X power in Rayman Origins?’, ‘Will we be able to do X in Rayman Origins?’...

This is a unique opportunity to ask the developers anything you wish, and all you can think of are questions that will be answered in a couple of months anyway!

Indeed I was focusing in RO questions because I wasn't sure if they would be opened to other questions out of the game.

But for now I haven't a good question out of Rayman Origins, unless it occures to me later.

Wait... I have one: The Glade of Dreams is a world full of magic and fantasy. Do you have plans to expand more the mythology of the world in future games or even in an encyclopedia format?

This one is to Michel Ancel: It was stated back in ''Rayman 2: The Great Escape'''s development that its concept was inspired by Russian, Chinese and Celtic stories that you read as a child. Can we know some examples?

Thingamajig is an English word present in the dictionaries. If you don't believe go check its meaning in one and tell me your conclusions.
