Hello my fellow Rayman fans!
I'm a newcomer to this forum and I thought that this little discovery I made a few days ago would be a good thing to post in my first thread here at raymanpc!
So here's what I have to share:
Does this look familiar to you guys?
Probably not, I guess...
These are screenshots of "Donald Duck Advance", a GBA version of Ubi Soft's Donald Duck game which appeared on various other platforms as "Donald Duck Quack Attack" in Europe or "Donald Duck Goin' Quackers" in the USA.
So what's the deal with these pictures you ask?
Well, just take a close look at those metal structures shown in the Donald game pictures and then take an even closer look at this:
The famous Rayman 2 2D PSX Prototype!
See what I am talking about?
The metal constructions are IDENTICAL!
When I found my dusty old Donald Duck Advance cartridge for the GBA a few days ago and decided to play it again those metal constructions in the Duckburg levels looked strangely familiar to me and reminded me of Rayman 3 on the GBA for some reason.
Then I realized that it wasn't Rayman 3 where I had seen similar graphics - it was in the Rayman 2 PSX Prototype!
So I decided to play the Playstation version of Rayman 2 again just to be sure and I took some comparison shots of the graphics while doing so.
I still can't believe that they are the same...
It's amazing to see that Ubi Soft did not scrap their work on the Rayman 2 2D project completely and instead decided to recycle stuff from the game for some of their future 2D titles like that Donald game on the GBA!
Well, that's all I wanted to share with you guys for now.
I apologize if this is already common knowledge...
I couldn't find any mention of it on the net, so I guess my discovery should be something new to most Rayman fans...
Anyways, here are some more comparison shots:
By the way, Donald was also released for the Gameboy Color.
I haven't played that version myself but I have seen pictures of it which show that it also uses those Rayman 2 2D graphics (with less colors), just to let you know...
Now I am really wondering if there might be more Ubi Soft games which use stuff from canceled Rayman games...
Say, does anybody know if there are any other Ubi Soft games with 2D graphics for the Gameboy?
Perhaps we should check through them for more Rayman 2 2D content.
What about Tonic Trouble for the GBC?
I don't own that version nor have I ever played it but I guess it might be a good candidate for more Rayman 2 leftovers.
(It was released after Rayman 2 2D was canceled or am I mistaken?)
