Before I get into the art I wanna give a bit of backstory. I haven't been a Rayman for a long time.
In fact it's only been about a month that I really have. It was only when I got a Nintendo Power in the mail one fateful day with the cover of it featuring the beautiful artwork of "Rayman Origins". If it wasn't for that article I still would probably be one of the many people out there that don't even know who Rayman is outside of the Rabbids! (though I may be one of the few that likes the Rabbids and him both)
Within this past month now I've managed to buy and playthrough both the fantastic Rayman Revolution & Rayman Hoodlum Havoc, watch through an entire playthrough of Rayman 1, as well as all four episodes of the animated series, find some fantastic songs from these games to listen to thanks to RayTunes, swim through endless amounts of interesting facts on RayWiki, draw more than enough doodles to make a gal's hand fall off, and to top it off be INCREDIBLY excited now for the upcoming release of Rayman Origins.
Now then with that all out of the way, lets get on with the art~! (I made all of them links rather than images otherwise this post would've been TERRIBLY stretched. x___x)
http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/ ... 47qcol.png - This was the first Rayman I had drawn a month back, and he's not exactly the center of attention in the picture either.
http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/ ... 47tken.png - This would be my futile attempts at drawing Rayman in more "my style" rather than the official one, as well as practice my Globox. Goodness knows I'm not good at drawing Globox. OTL
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/ ... 48n4ii.png - Skip to quite a few pictures later and you've got probably my favorite sketch thusfar, and the sketch that spawned my ever-so-strange idea of pairing Murfy and Betilla together. The idea sort of came out from when I was listening to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", The Tolkens version, and I pictured Murfy as the one singing it- but I couldn't think of anybody that he was singing it to until a little bit later when I saw the wiki article of Betilla and then poof- this happened.
And yes I like drawing classic Betilla better. >:V
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/ ... 49cfjs.png - I got plain fed up with trying to draw Murfy at different angles so I just slapped a reference sheet together so I could get a better idea. Also threw in a classic Murfy for good measure.
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/ ... 49oppt.png - At this little point I got stuck for ideas of what to draw, and deviantArt being one to have copious amounts of meme's I went on a hunt for some rayman ones and when I found this first one by MLII I got so over excited with filling it out that... I ended up doing two entire other ones! xDDD http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/ ... 49rh8g.png http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/ ... 49s1hc.png (These would also remain my only colored pieces of Rayman art for the moment, since schools been pretty hectic all I've had time to do really is sketch)
http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/ ... 4a10s8.png - Skip over to another game for a minute, Terraria. After I finished playing through Rayman 3 I got a real itch to still do Rayman related things. And since I've been having fun playing Terraria I thought a really cool thing to do would be to recreate some of the latest Rayman Origins artwork right in the game! Currently I'm almost finished with a piece of Rayman himself I've been doing, and soon I hope to do other characters like Betilla and Moskito. (And yes you would see Globox's food to the right there but I got rid of it since working with water physics to fill up about %95 percent of his body wasn't exactly the easiest thing to try and attempt. xP)
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/ ... 4a799z.png - Now I'm sure some of you DeviantArt users might recognize this, I put it together recently to use for myself as well as let any other rayman fans use for their journals. I've seen on a LOT of people's pages though that the box and text end up all misaligned, and I've concluded it's something to do with what deviantArt adds onto the actual code in order to automatically install it. I've set up an alternative way of installing the journal though in order to bypass this, so if you're wanting to use this on dA or are already using it but are having problems, just peek over here: http://piranha2021.deviantart.com/art/R ... -259045855
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/ ... 4aj8mg.png - This is where I really started to make Betilla my own as far as developing her. Somewhat like I've done with Murfy and my own interpretation of him as you've seen. I wanted to more or less do a "Present day" design for her. One that incorporated her more reserved and adult design of the original game, while also incorporating her newly attained limbs, and the playful more teenage look of her Rayman Origins appearance. Also I made a haphazard attempt at drawing Ly which came out, okay.
Anymore Rayman related stuff I do I'll likely post in this thread, along with putting it up on my dA if you want to check it out.~
As far as other Rayman projects I've got more than enough artwork in my head I've been thinking of doing, and I've actually got some sewing projects related to the series I'm wanting to make after taking care of my commissions list that I've got at hand. Primarily making a Rayman sweater to go along with my new shoes. eue And also a Globox or Rayman plushie like you've seen in some of my pictures above, maybe even others like of Murfy or the Grand Minimus.
I hope you guys all enjoyed what you saw and I can't wait to post more in the future. 8D
(I decided that I'll have my latest piece of work done an img to be seen right in the post rather than a link, that way people just having a glance at it can see my most recent stuff and if they want to look back at other things they may, rather than having to scroll through all of it at once before getting to the newest stuff at the bottom.
