That’s what everyone says about everything. Anyway, how many projects had he worked on when he made that statement?MLII wrote:Sean Le Blanc would. I remember someone saying he said it was one of the best/funnest/most enjoyable projects he'd ever done.

Just because you didn't enjoy the series doesn't mean that the people worked on it didn't have a good time making it!

Damn straight. I feel like Spiraldoor is trying to teach us a lesson that doesn't exist.Electoon wrote:Just because you didn't enjoy the series doesn't mean that the people worked on it didn't have a good time making it!

Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
It’s interesting that you seem to think I’m in the minority here when even people who worked on the series admit that it was bad.
Re-read my post. I never said that whether Sean LeBlanc had a good time working on the animated series depended on its quality. What I said was that people who work on television or film or game productions are always encouraged to say that the product is fantastic, their colleagues were wonderful and they had a lovely time making it. It’s spin. It’s meaningless. And even if everyone has a fun time making something, that does not mean that they care about the final product, especially when it turns out to be terrible, so I’m not sure what points you and MLII were trying to make.Electoon wrote:Just because you didn't enjoy the series doesn't mean that the people worked on it didn't have a good time making it!

Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
Ah, I didn't know that. They must have at least realised that it wasn't nearly as bad as most other cartoons running? Sure it wasn't that great looking from a standard viewer's eyes, but it wasn't that bad either... comparably.spiraldoor wrote:It’s interesting that you seem to think I’m in the minority here when even people who worked on the series admit that it was bad.

Sorry, it's just the way it came across

Read the previous page of this thread.
Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
From the sounds of the DA comment, it was someone higher up who said the writing sucks and not the workers on the show. As a matter of fact, the commenter actually sounded upset that the show was cancelled, and was mocking the idea that 'hollywood tv writersare teh best thing evar'
Why are we even talking about whether the people that worked on the show liked it or not, anyway?

Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
Lighting directors can hardly be described as ‘higher-ups’; this is a crew member we’re talking about, not a studio executive. And he wasn’t just mocking the idea of a Hollywood TV writer working on a Rayman show, because it’s not just an idea, it’s what actually happened. He was blaming the failure of the show on its ‘horrible’ writing.

What part did I misread?
Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
I never said that the Lighting Director was higher up. I said the higher-up people were the ones that cancelled the show, and he was relaying that opinion, and not his own.spiraldoor wrote:Lighting directors can hardly be described as ‘higher-ups’.

Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
The lighting director said that the show tanked because ‘the writing was horrible’. He wouldn’t have said that if he didn’t share this view. But he is referring to the higher-ups (and making fun of them) when he states that ‘they’ thought a Hollywood TV writer was a good fit for the project; this further demonstrates that he was not happy with the writing.
Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
Wut? If he's mocking the higher ups for thinking a Hollywood TV writer is a good fit, then why does it demonstrate that he doesn't like the writing? Surely it's the reversespiraldoor wrote: he is referring to the higher-ups (and making fun of them) when he states that ‘they’ thought a Hollywood TV writer was a good fit for the project; this further demonstrates that he was not happy with the writing.
Anyway, I still don't get why there's about two pages of discussion on whether some lighting director bloke like a Rayman tie in show or not. This is getting a little silly

Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
My understanding of the situation is as follows:
- The developers at Ubisoft Montpellier conceive the idea for a Rayman TV series
- The corporate higher-ups at Ubisoft bring in a Hollywood TV writer
- It quickly becomes apparent that hiring an outside writer with no knowledge of or interest in Rayman was a bad idea
- The show is cancelled because of its bad writing
- The lighting director is displeased because he lost his job
- He posts on DeviantArt to laugh at the foolishness of the higher-ups for hiring a Hollywood TV writer in the first place
Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
Oh okay, I see where you were going with this now. For some reason I was reading the comment as if he meant 'they thought it would be a winning formula to hire Hollywood writers instead of the ones that they did, and that Hollywood writers suck. Therefore the writing in TAS rocks as it is'. Now I re-read it and see 'they hired Hollywood writers to write the series instead of the good people at Ubisoft, and Hollywood writers suck. Therefore the writing in TAS sucks and while the series had lovely aesthetics it sucked and was cancelled, yay!'
I think this was all a bit of confusion on both of our parts
Although judging by the ott epic and cliche filled writing in Rayman 2, maybe it's a good thing that they didn't write it all them selves =P

Re: Rayman: The Animated Series
If I had a choice between a badly-written show where Rayman fights Robo-Pirates and searches for the four Masks of Polokus, and a badly-written show where Rayman drives a car with Lac-Mac and Flips, I know which one I would take.
