The purple strings are there in the original drawing.

Of course! All the more dedication and challenge to be had though.Drolpiraat wrote:it's doable on Wii but to be honest it's far easier on PC as you can test it immediately without transferring your modified game to your Wii HDD.
Not to mention that the Wii version uses far more encrypted files than the PC version. The textures for Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 are DDS files with modified headers, as opposed to the PC version's standard DDS files.
That would be quite helpful indeed. But we should probably wait until the full game is released so Ubisoft doesn't try to put extra protection on it if they see us modding the demo.Drolpiraat wrote:Yes, that's how you do it. It's all inside a big file though so I'm going to write some *.bat files to make it easier for you to extract the files and put them back in.

Ah now I see. Lol.
Re: Rayman Origins
I didn't have problems with the diagonal controls, that might be related with the keyboards that people use: not every keyboard supports multiple key pressings. That's bad for gaming.

But what can you modify exactly? Colours? Or you can even rebuild their body and such? could you for example replace some teensie skins with some more for Rayman and Globox? Like Uglette?

Was the PC version a little harder than the Wii version to you? Sounds laggy to me ._.RayFan9876 wrote:Ding dong, time for round 2:

My second bullshit commentary, the first being the X360 demo, if anyone remembers.
Really? My diagonal controls worked just fine. I also don't see how it's a 'port,' when there's next to nothing in it that resembles a particular platform.Cairnie wrote:There is indeed a lack of diagonal controls when we tried playing it rendering Aim for the Eel and Murray of the Deep not so playable as it should be.
In fact, I haven't had any problems with the controls, swimming, on foot, or on Moskito. But hey, I'm a born PC gamer.
Graphics wise, I was never incredibly impressed by it, and I think a lot of the problem is the colour pallet: it's all over the place. It's as if they only focused on the individual assets instead of the world as a whole. For example, the environmental colouring at the end of Aim For The Eel is quite gross in my opinion. One could have not picked blander colours if they tried. Rayman has always had a mystical atmosphere and soft, blended colours. Aside from certain areas (and those areas were VERY well done), Origins' graphics are mostly sharp, jagged and random, and while it does look good, it really doesn't look "Rayman." It's something much more suited to a game like Mario, Crash or Kirby. But for the love of god, stick to one style Ubisoft! I really don't think the cartoony vector graphics look good over airbrushed artwork. Something about it just seems very wrong. Also, it would have been nice of there were more global shading effects. Everything honestly looks as flat as a Mexican crêpe.

Re: Rayman Origins
Sure, they're just animated squares with pictures (textures) on top of them that you can make look like whatever you want. For all anyone cares, you can turn Globox into a pirate and a teensie into Yoda.TeensieKing wrote:But what can you modify exactly? Colours? No, I found the PC version easier than its console counterparts, primarily because I'm a PC gamer. But I don't know what you mean when you say "laggy," I run Origins at an internal average of 1630 FPS.Raymansgirl22 wrote:Was the PC version a little harder than the Wii version to you? Aaha, looks like you were fed chips on the moon for a bit too long there! Time to regain your gaming muscle!ikke471 wrote:Form me the PC version was harder than the wii version but just because de PC version runs waaaaaaay faster

I just have to get used to this XD
Re: Rayman Origins
Same here, I'm a PC player by default. I handle much better the keyboards than gaming controllers. But I think most gamers are used to controllers than with keyboards.RayFan9876 wrote: No, I found the PC version easier than its console counterparts, primarily because I'm a PC gamer.
I admit that playing the Rayman Origins PC demo felt like I was playing Rayman 1 in PC. And it isn't by coincidence that my default Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc version is the PC one.

Re: Rayman Origins
i've been trying to record rayman origins with fraps but it gives me HUUUGE lag when I try to record would there be anyway to fix this?
Re: Rayman Origins
Sorry for the delay. Here's a huge guide for something that shouldn't take too long to do once you get used to it.
How to change the Rayman Origins demo textures
Okay, so it turned out a little bigger than I thought it would be. If it's too hard, don't hesitate to send me your edited textures from the texture pack, then I'll make them into custom skins for you.
How to change the Rayman Origins demo textures
- Before you begin, make sure you have about 3GB of free space. Also, make sure your file extensions are visible.
- After installing the Rayman Origins demo, go to the install location.
By default, this is C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Rayman Origins Demo/GameData/
Note that Program Files (x86) is just Program Files on 32-bit systems. - Make a backup of the file bundle_PC.ipk in the same folder and name it bundle_PC.old. You will need to rename it back to bundle_PC.ipk if you want to play with the original files again.
- Download this zip archive and extract it into the folder with bundle_PC.ipk in it.
- Now we'll extract the files from the Rayman Origins demo. Execute extract.bat. If this is your first time, it will ask you if it has to create the output folder "ex/". tap y and then ENTER. Wait till the process is finished, then tap ENTER to quit.
- [Optional] You now have lots of files. If you have enough space, copy those files to somewhere else so you never have to extract them again. That way, you can always start from the next step when you want to mod the demo again.
- Open the ex/itf_cooked/pc/ folder. Now, think about what you want to modify. It's easy to understand the structure of the folders so you should be able to get to the files you want without much trouble. If you can't find out where a certain texture is, feel free to use the search function, looking for one of the names of the textures in my texture packs.

For example, if you look for "rayman_a1" with the search function it should tell you it's located in actor/playablecharacter/rayman/animation/. - Now you have the file you want, make a backup of it and change its extension to ".dds". For example, if the file was "rayman_a1.tga.ckd", change it to "rayman_a1.tga.dds".
- Open the DDS file with any image editing program that can edit DDS files. I recommend using Paint.NET as it supports the transparency perfectly.
- Edit the file! Be creative!

You can just save it as PNG for the meantime, edit the PNG in another program and open it up in Paint.NET again later to save it as a DDS file again.
Make sure not to resize the image and respect the original width and height of every sub-image (for example, you can't make Rayman's shoes any bigger than they already are). - Save it as a DDS file with Paint.NET or any other image editing program capable of this. For the compression, choose either DXT1 for images with no transparency like backgrounds, DXT3 for images with not so much transparency like Rayman's textures, or DXT5 for images where transparency is an important element (special effects, the bubblized Rayman, etc). You can see the original compression by opening the file with a hex editor if you know how that works.

- Rename the resulting .dds file to .ckd again, so if you were editing "rayman_a1.tga.dds" it should be renamed back to "rayman_a1.tga.ckd".
- Put it back in the folder for the original file, so if this is "rayman_a1.tga.ckd", then make sure you put it in ex/itf_cooked/pc/actor/playablecharacter/rayman/animation/.
- [Optional] I recommend deleting all the files and folders inside the /ex/ directory you didn't modify before reimporting everything into the archive. This is so the reimporting process is faster, safer and more accurate.

For example, if you only modified "rayman_a1.tga.ckd" then ONLY keep actor/playablecharacter/rayman/animation/rayman_a1.tga.ckd. Delete all other files and folders inside "/ex/". - Finally, execute "reimport.bat". It should work fine if you followed the steps correctly, but remember, the reimport feature isn't perfect, so if it doesn't work, then I'm afraid nothing can be done about it.
- Play the game! (I prefer to just run "Rayman Origins.exe" inside the installation directory, as using the shortcut executes Steam first and then the game)
Okay, so it turned out a little bigger than I thought it would be. If it's too hard, don't hesitate to send me your edited textures from the texture pack, then I'll make them into custom skins for you.
