Re: Rayman Accompagnement Scolaire - CP

Post by Electoon »

Well, my explanation of what went wrong recently has gone missing due to the forum struggles, so here is the abridged version.

No, it doesn't work

Okay, here is the slightly less abridged version.

We used the CD drive from the Packard Bell (the only computer which has ran the game) in an XP machine, and it didn't work. Then we made an exact clone of the contents of the Packard Bell and put it in a virtual machine. The game still didn't work on it. Conclusion: Rayman CP makes zero sense.

And now, for me to find a good capture card! Does anyone have an advice on good quality but not too expensive capture cards? I don't want the play-through to be fuzzy ;)

Sorry about the double post, but the last one was from last month - and ever since I've had no updates since then, this thread has died :P

Well, I've ordered off for a capture card, so 10000009th attempt is coming soon!

If this doesn't work (which I hope it does, because I spent money on this one :P), then we'll be making the 95/8 machine for running the game instead (although personally, I think there is more chance of the capture card working then that - the game is so finicky that we'd probably set the machine and then it wouldn't work anyway )

Well, considering it's taken a month this far - I'm really hoping that it will work this time :P

For some reason, some of my biggest laughs from this game have come from the English Workshop...

Ooh, not sure I want to reveal too much! What I will say though is a large amount of my laughs came from an English speaker talking in French, and also the awkward lyrics to the songs. But there is this wonderful visual humour in one of the songs with Rayman :mryellow:

Songs, eh? Are they just short 30 second tunes?

There are songs all over CP. Some of them are the same as the ones in Activity Centre, like the ones in the English Workshop - but you also get a song for completing an activity, which are also always accessible from the menu. Some of them are horrifically creepy, while others are surprisingly catchy :)

Apparently the Musician's wife makes an appearance in this game. I guess that means the Musician aswell, right?

Not including the returning appearance from RAC, I'd like to argue that the Musician's wife and child has more appearances then he does :P

Huh. XD

(It's all reused material anyway, isn't it? XD)

Hang on, I just realised, Tarayzan makes his only appearance in Rayman 1. He wasn't in any of the spinoffs.

And he still doesn't to this day (or at least, I haven't found Tarayzan yet, anyway. I don't think he's accustomed to city life - so I guess Aeropolis is not the place for him :P)

And no, it is not all reused material. As a matter of fact, the majority of the game and the animations are completely different, and what is the same tend to be weird beta versions of the activities in RAC.

It's all so interesting that I'm tempted to buy the other game in the series (maternelle) to see the rest of this new material. Unfortunately, this game has been (and still is) a pain to set up that the thought of getting another one makes me cringe right now ;). Besides, Rayman CP is two disks of material alone, so if I get the play-through up, it will be running for a long time :mryellow:

Whoo, the capture card has arrived through the post today!

I won't be setting it up today as I'm out all day, but expect an update on it's set up soon :D

This post reminds me of how much sleep I need...

We'll be trying this out in the next few days though (hopefully tomorrow?), so wish me luck! I can only hope it will work this time, because all ideas after this one are a lot more far fetched. It will be on You-tube sometime, even though this game has been more trouble then it's worth at times :P

Well, I've got some news, most of it's pretty bad, but I do have something that may cheer up at the end.

Sucky Stuff:

Turns out that the capture card has this really wierd obscure S-video slot with 8 pins - which means another purchase is needed. Not only this, but the slot at the back of the Packard Bell machine is just plain wierd, and won't be compatible with anything. This thing has just got tons more confusing. At this rate, if we ever do get the capture card working, the drivers won't work or some rubbish like that...
I've got to admit right now that it looks like we've hit a dead end with this idea, and the 96/98 rig looks like it makes more sense. Which is wierd, as before today I thought it was the other way around. This Rayman game is so finicky I can't see it working on another computer.

Alternate Explanation:

By the powers of Betilla's magic baguette - nothing is going my way!

Good Stuff:

While getting videos of this game has been an absolute disaster thus far - something that is possible and far easier to do (and not with any stupid capture cards either) is rip audio from the game. As Rayman CP has an all new soundtrack, sometime in the near future (maybe even starting today if I'm lucky) I'll be happy to get started. Menu music might be a bit awkward as it has sound effects, but anything within the activities as well as the songs with lyrics will be fine. This might even be quite a nice treat for Raytunes :)

EDIT: Oh and also - did you know that Betilla's favourite place to eat baguettes is on-top a washing machine?
