So how many 'new playable characters' do we think there will be? So far we've seen Murphy and... That girl.

Visually, there's just no comparison. Since the visuals are the most resource and disk space-consuming aspect of a platform game, I fail to see how your point even makes sense.
Re: Rayman Legends
Awesome musics, awesome gameplay. I have hope that we'll see Rayman in other consoles, too.
I was quite suprised how there wasn't any sliding scenes in Origins when you can slide even in loading screens and most of the grounds
Now there seems to be one.

...No. Wii U Exclusive? DAMNIT! It's just to force people to get the Wii-U! >> Arg damn!
Ubisoft...Why you got so stupid with Rayman all of sudden?
Oh well, I hope they'll change their mind after noticing how bad the Rayman fans take those news....Who knows?

I hope so too. Though the way I see it now it doesn't seem like that's the case.Hunchman801 wrote:I'm hoping it's a mistake.THEdragon wrote:It is Wii-U exclusive, Hunchman.
Anyway, did Ubisoft confirm the game is Wii-U exclusive? Or could it be that it's just Murfy who is exclusive for the Wii-U? I mean, he is making full use of the touchpad. I'm unsure about the others, but Murfy is a different kind of playable character. Well whatever's the case, damn you, Murfy.
Damn you.
Re: Rayman Legends
Wii-U exclusive or not, I'm contemplating whether or not I'm going to buy this at all. Call me blind or idiotic, but the gameplay I've seen in E3 hasn't really wowed me in any way and, not that it affects gameplay, but I really dislike the graphical style they've chosen for the game.
Then again, I am one of the most pessimistic Rayman fans around that I could have a couple of brain cells loose. But, really, I don't think I'm buying a Wii-U JUST to play RL; I'm not a console gamer as it is.
And let's hope they're not going to make an awful port for the 3DS again.

Re: Rayman Legends
I don't understand this assumption of it being a Wii U exclusive just because Murfy plays a nice part in it. Besides, during the conference they specifically pointed out that one of the games (the zombie survival one) was a Wii U exclusive. I think they would have done the same with Legends if it were true.

Re: Rayman Legends
Oh well, whatever if it's true or not, I think I'll be better to wait for new stuff about the game...They'll surely upload soon new trailers like they did for RO.
I was already hesitating between the PS3 and the Wii-U, but -call me stupid, you can- as only one game interest me in PS3...I'll go more into the Wii-U. But I won't get it in the release. I find ridiculous to buy a more expensive console which is told to be weaker in graphism quality than less expensive consoles like PS3.
I'll watch later the Nintendo conference. I really hope they'll tell more interesting stuff about this console.

Re: Rayman Legends
Visuals might be space-consuming, but they're also much less important than core design and gameplay. The creators of Ape Escape could have made the game better looking, but why would they do that if this comes at the expense of the game itself?Hunchman801 wrote:El Dango wrote:What!? Yes they could. Since the visuals are the most resource and disk space-consuming aspect of a platform game, I fail to see how your point even makes sense. The PlayStation version of Rayman 2 was, in fact, an excellent compromise as they downgraded both the visuals and the length of the game to meet the limitations of the console.
I wouldn't mind a slightly more bland looking game if it at least had all the levels and collectibles that it's supposed to. My point (which makes perfect sense) is that they could easily have done better, and I stand by it 100%.

While I'm disappointed with it being Wii-U Exclusive, it still opens up an opportunity for Rayman 4 coming to us earlier...

Re: Rayman Legends
I believe this disagreement is down to our personal views. You seem to believe that too much content was taken out of the PlayStation port, while they maintained too high-quality visuals. I believe that both the content and the visuals were equally downgraded, resulting in a homogeneous game optimised for the console.El Dango wrote:I wouldn't mind a slightly more bland looking game if it at least had all the levels and collectibles that it's supposed to. I took issue with your claim that the PlayStation is capable of running a “complete version of Rayman 2”; I now take it that you meant complete in terms of content (i.e. levels and collectibles), not taking the visuals into account. Rayman 2 PlayStation having reached the limits of the console (this being an undeniable fact), any improvement of either the content or the visuals will come at the expense of the other.
What exactly did you not like in this game?

LAPD Future Cop looked amazing, felt amazing and frankly, even for today's standards, is still quite good. Actually, I might start playing that again after I finish my work.El Dango wrote:Few PS1 games actually ever looked good anyway, and those are all 2D.
Also, for the discussion of this game being Wii-U exclusive, I think we're all misinterpreting the text that was quoted. I believe they meant this version of RL is to become Wii-U exclusive, what with the touch pad controls, Murfy and all those other aspects that couldn't be possible with other consoles. Also, if it is Wii-U exclusive now, there's bound to be a port some time in the future - I mean, come on; how long have you been Rayman fans? You should know by now that porting is just as much an aspect of a Rayman game as the game itself is. ... OK, weird comparisson, but you get my point.
I liked the music remix for the LotLD and the rocking grannies and music-synchronised gaming. I tried to figure out whether the Tricky Treasure challenges were designed to be music-cued, which seems to be a correct assumption - if you do everything exactly right, you will time your attacks, landings and jumps to the music. Also falling scenery will align with the music perfectly.
However, I'm not too sure whether I like the new depth they're bringing into the game. Especially the way Globox is shaded makes me wonder whether they shouldn't just completely redesign him. I mean, look carefully and then tell me he doesn't look like a tin can with his current shading.
Re: Rayman Legends
Well, unless that source has got it wrong - it looks like this thing is going to be a Wii U exclusive after all. Okay, that's kinda disappointing. Particularly as it's sort of become a kind of tradition of sorts in this household to wait a few years before buying one of the latest consoles (we don't even have the money to be splashing about buying a Wii U on release anyway
). Sometimes, we'll wait until the console has had a few years in run, and there are lots of good games out for it (we did this with the Wii, DS, and even the PS1 when I was little) and sometimes we'll wait until it's long past it's production line and ended years ago . Seriously, a couple of years ago we were celebrating the acquisition of a Video Computer System
.
Anyway, this has been going besides the point a bit - the point being I won't be able to play Legends, not for a long time. Oh well, this isn't going to stop me from following. I also really need to finish that video at some point...
Also, while the PS1 version of Rayman 2 did try hard to do what it could with the limitations of the console, in my opinion it is the worst port. It was one of the things that made me have such a bad experience with the game when I first saw it. Ever since then, I've had a chance to play around with other versions, including the brilliant Rayman Revolution, and can tolerate it more for what it is - even like certain elements. I still think the game is mediocre (sorry!), but some of the charm that the game did have is definitely lost in the down port.

Re: Rayman Legends
They're gonna port it someday. They said it will be a WiiU exclusive because they enjoy supporting new consoles with exclusive content. They did that for the Wii, and created the Raving Rabbids series... but if you notice, the game came later to Xbox 360.
Also, Rayman Origins itself was announced later for wii... and then ported to 3ds and vita, remember?
Recently, microsoft presented this new controller, bastardization of an ipad and a Wii U controller... the Smart Glass

I'm pretty sure Ubisoft will be interested on it and announce Rayman Legends there too, but obviously, after the launch of Wii U, as they promised.

Re: Rayman Legends
I actually find the PlayStation port much better than Rayman Revolution, which clearly shows I do not value visuals over content. While the former was reduced in content, it remained a cohesive whole, which wasn't the case with the latter, in which they messed up levels, screwed up their names and added others that did not fit in the rest of the game. I'm being harsh with what I consider an excellent game, but it was just bad compared to the original Rayman 2.Electoon wrote:Also, while the PS1 version of Rayman 2 did try hard to do what it could with the limitations of the console, in my opinion it is the worst port. Re: Rayman Legends
The PS1 version does have a couple of cool touches I guess, like the scene with the giant tap that I often associate with Rayman 2. To anyone that likes R2 and hasn't played the PS1 version, I would recommenced it so that they can experience the changes for themselves, but to anyone who hasn't played any version of the game first, I'd turn them to some other version. Rayman Revolution in my opinion is definitely the better of the two, and I personally like the changes that were made, but I guess it's a matter of taste

Re: Rayman Legends
It sure is. Some people care a lot about the coherence of the game, while others just want to enjoy nice gameplay and graphics. I was disturbed by the way the levels were screwed up in Revolution, but I can understand that not everyone considers this a major issue.Electoon wrote:Rayman Revolution in my opinion is definitely the better of the two, and I personally like the changes that were made, but I guess it's a matter of taste.
