Thanks! :)

How's the progress with the background?
Finishing up the painting tools. After that I'm going to add in the last details.
Do you think you might have it finished by the end of your day (when I come home from school)?

References, sweetheart. You can't go wrong with em'!

I was wondering, how are you going to do the wings?

I actually did use some, but I forgot that they had a forth toe after I finished the three.
Spanex wrote:I was wondering, how are you going to do the wings?
I just started them, but I'm still trying to figure out what default pose to put them in and how I would rig them *goes to Google exactly that*.

Can I request Rhook as the next texturing culprit? I'll send you the model once I'm finished so you can have an easier time texturing him.

Sure! But what colors does he have? :O

I think it's best to use 2D textures for the final set of feathers on his wings, Like here:

Red stands for 2D while dark red is transparent. Blue is 3D. Smaller birds usually get 2D for their entire wings and tailfeathers. Try to ignore the shape of this wing though, I sketched up something real fast. You should be aiming for this form instead:

That's a pretty accurate sketch for five minutes!

The colours would probably around the same as those in the link you posted.

What I've planned for the wings is to have the arm obviously in 3D, then to have every horizontal layer of feathers have its own texture pasted onto a matching plane. However, the bottom (red) row would actually have individual planes for each feather, just to add a nice amount of extra detail when animating or utilising jigglebone physics.

Remember, this game won't be coming out for a while, so I'm really pushing the limits of what would be considered 'optimal' polycounts. I'm almost going double what is recommended, but it makes it look just that much nicer. For example, Rayman has about 30,000 polygons, and Rhook's head alone is about 5,000. The average enemy would probably have about 10,000 polys.

Sounds like I might have a challenge ahead of me. :P I sure hope your model won't be too complicated as I seem to have a harder time placing textures correctly than modeling itself.

Don't worry, my models almost never have a billion nooks and crannies to fit textures around, mainly because my artstyle is more simplistic. I'll have the rig position very open with the model slightly dissembled in places so you can place the textures on easily.

I'm making a personal model but it's already become complicated as shit, hahaha! I need to try and fix it.

By the way, the background is nearly done. I must leave for work soon though.

Rhook is my favorite of your original characters, that you know.
The progress so far on him is very good! I just hope this doesn't happen to him.

NEVER. I am sure enough that vultures are a godsend even though there is no such thing as a ''god'' up there.

Wow, I'm only just introduced to this new Rhook character and I'm really diggin the style, what will his personality be like?
LOL I had Zelda ocarina of time in my mind when I saw this, it'd be the owl from Ocarina of time in ROTD, hehe. No but really, I do love this creation!
