What do you want in Rayman 4?

We need to stop referring to the Magician’s appearances in the original game and Origins as different characters. We don’t want to give Ubisoft any ideas.

Or do we? :hehe:

What I'd like to see in a potential Rayman 4...is obviously a deep story that works for the game, and a very cruel villain, so terrible that not even Rayman could show any mercy for him...

....or HER.

Someone like Mr. Dark? Or Razorbeard?

Yes, though more like Razorbeard. But to my idea it shouldn't go beyond that level of evil. (I'm talking about succeeding in killing a friend, something Razorbeard almost managed to do.)

It would be disastrous to retcon the Magician into being two separate characters. It’s clear that they’re intended to be the same because they’re both named ‘the Magician’, they both wear dark blue top hats with yellow stars on them (one of the character’s few distinguishing features), and they’re both little helper guys who can be found hidden away in the levels and who grant Rayman boons in exchange for collectibles. The Magician’s betrayal completely loses its impact if it turns out he’s just an inexplicable Teensy duplicate of another guy called ‘the Magician’.

Many of the old characters who returned in Origins look different. Some of them look very different. We need to accept that there were some changes and inconsistencies and move on from that. How would you feel if they ‘revealed’ that the Betilla in the original game and the Betilla in Origins were two completely different characters who just happened to resemble each other, have the same name, and serve similar functions in the games?

We want the developers to tie the Magician’s appearances closer together – not drive them further apart. If the Magician reappears in a future Rayman game, they should keep him as a Teensy, but give him blonde hair that covers his eyes, and perhaps change his skin back to its original colour. A merger of the two designs will help to create the feeling that this really is the same character we’ve known since 1995.

Don’t take it so personally. I like talking about these things, and I would have responded the same way to anyone.

Yeah, I know you do. It still came off as a bit of a personal response though since you quoted me for it. Let's not get worked up about it.

Something else I would like to see in Rayman 4 is Globox. But I think this is pretty much a guaranteed thing by now. Would be even nicer if we saw his family again.

Ok another four words..... THE FIRST BAD DREAM
Featuring the magnificent bald Rayman.

Edit: Perhaps they could make R4 in the chronological style of The Godfather Part II or Stephen King’s It. Jano breaks out of the Cave of Bad Dreams, determined to take over the world. Rayman must defeat him in the present day, with occasional flashback levels in which we control a younger and more vulnerable Rayman as he attempts to stop his first enemy.
Stop infiltrating my mind.
I think your on to something here

I've always liked to picture the Betilla from Rayman Origins as Rayman 1 Betilla's daughter. It's no where implied or stated at all, but I'm using that concept in Revenge of the Dark because it's probably the only way to - and perfectly - describe the drastic character, age and personality difference. It's not a particularly important one like the Magician, but it's something at least.

Okay, then if both Magicians are the same character, I'd like Rayman 4 to explain how and why he suddenly changed species. :|
Then they would likely go with the "He effed up a spell" thing, wouldn't they?

Thankfully the official site destroys this dreadful idea: ‘The benevolent yet fiercely protective Betilla from the original Rayman is back with a vengeance.’

Trying to work logical explanations for these things into the story would probably cause more errors. I’d rather they just make it completely clear that there’s only one Magician, and leave the chronology-obsessed fans to brood over the inconsistencies.

I think this story of the Magician being the same character made a great confusion around the heads of veteran fans. Sure, there were many characters that got redesigned with limbs but it remains the question: is afterall Rayman's specie unique since Rayman 2 on, or the developers just felt wanting to change the species of the Magician to a more "contemporaneum" look?

It is things like that I would actually want to have sure that both are the same character or not.

THATS SO RIGHT!!! Uglette and the Baby Globoxes must come back! Does Ubi just think we have forgotten them? NO WAY!!!

But they should give the Baby Globoxes their Rayman 2 look and attitude back. I didnt like their design in the first Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Personally I would like most of characters from Rayman 2 to come back, mostly Razorbeard. In my opinion he's the best villain of the series. :)

There's an idea. How Rayman's 'species', if he has one, got wiped out.
Maybe in the end, only the 'Dark Rayman' and Rayman remained? And they figured that they would not destroy each other, as they were the last of their kind?
Or better yet, and I know I've said this numerous times, but what if the Dark Rayman was an alter-ego of Rayman. So, you play different missions, controlling either one of the two through seperate missions, etc.

I know we saw them both at the same time in Rayman 1, but Ubisoft might be still able to build on this. Maybe in Rayman 1, Mr. Dark took the 'Dark Rayman' out of Rayman, forced him to chase him, and then the dark rayman went back at the conclusion of the level?

Unless Rayman's friends are really isolated in separated islands in the sea, while all the other games (except RO) have got their plot in the great archipelago. But again, Livingstones have got limbs in RO. Argh, this is confusing. :confus:

Perhaps, this may be a tad far fetched, but what if Darkray and Mr Dark are the same person? Think about it? it could tie a lot of knots together and plus they were never both in the same place at the same time. huh? No?
