Rayman Origins's story is minimalistic to the point of confusion, yet somehow it also manages to be overly complicated. The Livid Dead, the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares, the four kings, the Moody Clouds, the Magician. There is far too much going on and none of it really connects.
Wouldn't have said it better.
In my opinion, Rayman Origins' story is dumb, not because it's too simple, but because it tries REALLY hard to be mysterious and complicated, when all of the plot is focused on goofy characters in a goofy world, which is, in other words, the perfect place for a simple yet substancial plot. Instead of making you wonder what's going on and make you do your own investigations (like Limbo), the game is presented in a childish and "crazy" way, making it clear that there's nothing deeper than what you actually see on screen: an evil teensy traitor and a bunch of crazy characters dancing on the screen... oh, and who cares about the grannies, they're not part of the story, they were added just for the lolz. It was a torture for the fans trying to figure out what's really going on.
