I tried a download from the Pirate Bay earlier (a trusted torrent), though I got freaked the crap out when suddenly my graphics card started acting weird and the screen saver started crashing because of it. It turned out later that it was because of a faulty update for my graphics card, but it has made me paranoid about any possible viruses :S (And because of that, I have resolved not to download anything illegally anymore, because my laptop is worth way too much to me.)

Okay. Major "phew"s from me. I have nothing to worry about

Viruses can't physically harm your laptop, that's virtually impossible. The worst they can do is force you to reinstall Windows really. And once you've done it once, viruses are only about as bad as fluff of your nose.

Wow, how did you garner all this knowledge? Is it all from experience? I guess I could do with some toughening up
Anyway: I'll continue working on this tomorrow. I am happy to have all these alternative options just in case something goes wrong. My honest thanks to anyone who gave tips.

Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
Aha, I don't even really consider myself a huge knowledge base. I just love computers, I've been working with them since probably around age eleven. It's been one of my main sources of income for the past five years.

Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
And I just started a university study based around computers, so maybe my fellow students will miraculously transmit their knowledge to me a bit as well. I am a fan of computers myself, but I really am not all too hot on the sub-GUI side of things.
So if there is anything weird about my grammar or vocabulary, please tell me! I'm always willing to improve!
Was the grammar of that sentence okay, by the way? I love the verb "garner" so I wonder if I used it in the right way there. I want to write English as correctly (and as interestingly) as possibleWow, how did you garner all this knowledge?

Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
Yup! That was correct.
Don't worry, if you have a bad grammar flaw, you can be sure that I'll point it out and shove it in your face. I do it with Master4lyf1 all the time.
Also, you and Shrooblord seem very similar; in a way, I could almost call you the same person.

Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
Haha, yes I saw that you are correcting people all the time and was wondering if you could do the same with me.
Though please say something even if you detect a minor slip-up
Also, now I'm curious in what way Shrooblord and I are so very similar!
Currently, I'm moving over all my important files to a USB flash drive. Important files include my complete Documents folder and Minecraft world files. Other games are fun to play through again. (Let's 100% Rayman Origins once more~!

Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
Okay, we brought the laptop back to the store, and they thought that it was indeed a manufacturing fault, so they sent it back to the manufacturer.
That'll take about two weeks, so they lent me a replacement laptop for the time being. However, it is slooooooow! Attempting to make a connection to the internet made it hang up and restart Explorer three times over.... On top of that, it is completely crammed full of crap like cheap download games and shady software
At least Google Chrome is speedy on it.

Good to know you found the root of the problem, hopefully your replacement will be better.

Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
I sure hope so too!
You know what's kind of weird too? My laptop is supposed to have an SSD, but I have not seen it anywhere! Windows showed that it has two hard disks, so I thought that the D: drive was the SSD, but when I was investigating and looked through the hard disk properties in System Management, I found out that the D: drive was in fact a partition of the C: drive and that there was some other hard drive in the PC that was not being detected properly...
So maybe the hard drive and SSD problems are linked?

Probably in the way that we both like our English and we both like to keep the language fresh. I don't like using the same words over and over, so I tend to use phrases another would only rarely gather up and show the world. Also, sometimes I just do it because I feel like it. In that way, we're a bit similar.Decidetto wrote:Also, now I'm curious in what way Shrooblord and I are so very similar!
Almost? We complete each other, don't we, Decidetto, dear?RayFan9876 wrote:Also, you and Shrooblord seem very similar; in a way, I could almost call you the same person.
So good looks [sic] with your replacement. Did you get to back up your files before you sent it off to computer Valhalla?

Ah, that way. Yes, that's the exact same way I like to use a languageShrooblord wrote:Probably in the way that we both like our English and we both like to keep the language fresh. Yep, I already made a backup (or more like: copied and pasted my beloved files to a USB drive) before we even thought about going back to the store. (Prepared for anythingShrooblord wrote:So good looks [sic] with your replacement. Did you get to back up your files before you sent it off to computer Valhalla?
By the way, why did you quote "good looks"? Seems like a rather standard phrase to me.
EDIT: I like how my previous post was posted exactly at 00:00 (our time)
Re: 850 Gigabytes of Bad Clusters?!
Well, it seems your problem got fixed. 850 Gigabytes of bad clusters :/ I haven't faced this kind of problem before (once i had a CD drive on a new computer that couldn't be detected by the OS...crap. But we called support and the told us how to do to make it work again. I don't know why so many people think that supports are really bad
).

i just wanted to add something : words that a person says represents only 7% of his/her personality. The way people wear clothes and their body language are more characteristic of them. So it's very easy to say on forums that some people are alike some othersShrooblord wrote:Almost? I think you can let that good feeling flourish, there's no way they can't fix it. It's just a faulty hard drive.

'Looks' was purposefully confuddled with 'luck', but I made it clear that was intentional by adding "[sic]".Decidetto wrote:By the way, why did you quote "good looks"? Seems like a rather standard phrase to me.
