Rayman 2/3 modding?

Post by SilentSanctuary »

Does anybody know could R2/R3 be modded in any way? It would be fun to create a mod of them. If anyone has any useful ideas, please post them here!

Oh, and by the way, does anyone know anything about the game engines Ubisoft used while making these games?

Rayman 3 uses the Torque engine as far as I know.

They can't be modded very much, but you can do full texture mods on the N64 version of Rayman 2 with an emulator.

Thank you for telling the name of the Rayman 3 engine, I have been looking for it without finding out.

I had no idea that was the engine R3 used...
Where/How'd you find this out?

How did you get that idea? I don't think it does...

I swear I had read somewhere that it used the Torque engine. I did say "as far as I know," so I could be wrong. The graphical prowess looks very similar though, so I think it definitely is a possibility.

Torque is really, really bad name for engine, isn't it? Especially given that R3 seems to not use torques as long as I see stuff well.

Torque was only released to public outside GarageGames/Dynamix in 2007, and as it's not mentioned in the Rayman 3 credits, I highly doubt it uses the Torque engine.
It actually seems to be using the improved Rayman 2 engine that was first used to port Donald Duck to PS2 and Gamecube.

Wow, that's a horrible engine for having been released in 2007. I thought it had been around since the early 2000s.

Now that's interesting. I wouldn't have guessed, since they hardly seem to resemble eachother. That's probably just the artstyle though.

I have always had a niggling suspicion that R3 used an upgraded R2 engine, I don't know why exactly, but they felt very similar in some ways.
That and this screenshot:

Hahaha really it could have happened. This screenshot is not so strange for me.

Yep. You can actually notice the similarities between Donald Duck and Rayman 2 though... I seem to remember they hadn't even changed the font for the PC version xD
Anyway, I think Rayman M/Arena uses the same engine as well. That would mean Rayman 2, Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers/Quack Attack, Rayman M/Arena and Rayman 3 all use modified versions of the same engine.

Thank you all for the info you've given. I think that if the engine is created and used only by Ubisoft in these games, it might be possible that there is no name for the engine and/or you couldn't get it anywhere.
