That would depend on the context and tone of the statement, and also on the speaker's understanding of the rather abstract concept of what constitutes 'art'.

Whop, that's my work. >_>;
Looking back on it really makes me think of those old Disney cartoons. It's got that ring of quality to it. Astounding skills, you have. What is he saying? "What?!" ?

I came up with it a few months ago when I was experimenting with BB code after Rayrobi showed me that you can in fact turn the whole quote box green (like I did with yours), which made me wonder if URLs would work too. They do!

It makes me wonder if Spanex could quickly do a line drawing of a front and a side view of Rayman's modern look. I might have time to try and make a 3D model of him. It would have to be kind of a neutral looking Rayman though, so no real expression on his face and maybe have his hand opened with his fingers spread slightly. 8)

Then what is art? it's something you do by leisure? just because just want to do it? just because suddenly your mind says to you "hey, I think I wanna express something to the world! grab a pencil!"........?

I think it's a very limited definition. Maybe it would be understantable if you were forced to do it in mass... and just in some limited cases.

But doing that because it's your job doesn't make it "work" instead of "Art". If that made sense, then all of the Renaissance artists were workers instead of artists. Sometimes I get paid for drawing stuff and I still consider it art, because I find them beautiful and I'm proud of them.

I've studied arts, and I can confirm that if a canned piece of poop can considered a piece of art (Dadaism), then anything can be considered art, maybe not appealing art, but at least art for the point of view of the author.

If you all want to stop this stupid discussion, just do the obvious: go PM the author and ask her "Excuse me, do you consider what you did there fanart or fanwork?"

In my mind, art is the result of creating something that employs your creativity. Fan art is merely art that is directly and intentionally based off of preexisting (and fictional) art.

To be technically and exclusively 'work,' ** it has to employ no creativity, thus precisely following the directions given to you by someone or something else. What signifies graphics and music to the most notable forms of art though? Well, they utilise far, far more creativity than banking per se. I could almost go as far as to say a 'positive art to work ratio.'

**Though what does 'work of art' mean? I don't know, I just sort of improvised the word 'work' to take the place of whatever the opposite of art is. Technically, I think 'work' is anything that one does, whether it employs creativity or not.

I didn't really make any text up for him. So people assume he's saying "Your ass!".

Eeh? In my opinion he's just shocked at how fucking stupid someone is, before showing him the middle finger. Like "oh hey fuck you man".

We are both in the same boat, since I learnt the same thing in HCA. I'll note one more thing, Dadaist artists intended to make the art as anti-art since by endings of the XIX century the Impressionism and Fauvisme started creating polemics through the definition of Art.

Yup. It's pretty funny that it is fully considered art nowadays. I guess that's why I decided to use Dadaism as an example :mryellow: . That sends us to a new polemic: should rock art be considered art? :o

Suprematism can still nowadays burn some neurons to people:

Of course, this is the most extreme example I can show from Kasimir Malevich.

I'm usually quite tolerant to what people call 'art' and what others don't, but when beautiful pieces of hard labour that took months to make get ignored and paintings that are a mere dot in the middle of a white canvas get sold for millions, I get a little cross at the world.
