Re: Rayman 1
Speaking of Mr. Sax, I've always found it odd that he had very noticeable streaks of red reflecting off his body despite the only red item in each area he appears in being Rayman's neckerchief.

Re: Rayman 1
Indeed! Although, then one can wonder if it is indeed supposed to be a reflection. Maybe he is just differently coloured on the underside.
EDIT: Never mind. The shape of the discoloured area changes as Mr. Sax moves, so it should be a reflection. It is a very weird design choice though. Analyzing for a bit here, he is fought in two differently coloured areas. He chases you over a beige-coloured floor, while the floor of his arena is blue. Obviously, they couldn't make his sprite fit for both situations, so perhaps they just went with an unrelated colour, so he couldhave a reflection without it being location-bound.
Hmm, maybe they could have made two sets of sprites for him, if the storage space allowed. One for the beige floor, one for the blue floor. Better even, if the sprites are palette based (is anything known about that?), the palette colours could just be switched out depending on the situation.
But anyway, they gave him a red reflection in 1995, so who cares, I guess.

The only versions which are palette-based are DOS and GBA ones, though technically they could make an exception for Sax and some other objects, "deapalettising" them in real-time.Decidetto wrote:Better even, if the sprites are palette based (is anything known about that?), the palette colours could just be switched out depending on the situation.
I always thought this was a weird artistic choice of showing bottom of Sax being unlit, not a reflection. Not sure about it though.

It's perfect. Michel Ancel's a creative genius.

Re: Rayman 1
The very last hybrid - Mama's body and Moskito's head - is the most frustrating one for me, because (s)he always manages to get me even when I was absolutely sure I should have dodged the attack. I can also get pinned against the wall, being hit over and over again, causing me to very slowly die and redo the whole battle. It's not hard, per se, but incredibly frustrating when that happens.Master4lyf1 wrote:Space Mama is probably the hardest of the normal bosses, however, the "boss rush"-esque finale does give me trouble with the Mama-Moskito hybrids.
Space Mama was a nice fight. Somehow, the dev's made it quite clear what they wanted you to do in order to beat her. There's some kind of visual (or audible I guess) key in there in almost all her attacks that help you out. The only thing I found a bit confusing and which took me some time to figure out is when she ducks behind her laundry machine.

Re: Rayman 1
However the space mama fight, once you lose the first time (which is very likely), you have to restart the whole fight with 3Hp (at least in th ps1 version). And the fight is long...
Against Mister Dark, i only had difficulties with the second phase. I did not have problems with the first and the last.

Re: Rayman 1
The problem with Space Mama is figuring out the best way to dodge her laser attacks, once that's sorted, you just need to apply the correct dodge at the right time.

Reposting what I wrote in the Video Catalogue topic, I found a rare ad and decided to upload in the Rayman 1 playlist:

Yo'w Guys, I've maded a Tool-Assisted Speedrun of Rayman (Actually i'm working on): I've got the World Record TIME for the First Level but he isn't finish, I'm stopped at first punch level) But this is normal after 8hours of nonstop work, it should be normal ^^'
Glitches USED:
1.useless but funny MoonWalk
2. Wallbreach epic at betilla moment with the Plum
Q: What is an Tool-Assisted Speedrun?
A: It's when humans skills aren't enough, and you play game image by image to do the impossible. Using tools like RAM Watch
Q: What does it require?
A: Intelligence, Patience.
Q: Is it long to do?
A: As I said, Yep. VERY long, there is a 1h30 TAS which is the best of the site (Super Mario 64 120Stars by Nahoc and many authors) which took about 5 years to do
Q: Can you give me examples

Re: Rayman 1
I don't know if it works on advance version or not but if you break the six cages from Mr Sax's Hullaballoo
(locations here: https://raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Mr_Sax%27s_Hullaballoo ), avoid the photographer, then die after breaking the last cage, you will reappear at the beginning of the stage. Go back to the map and the level will be completed without meeting Mr Sax.

EDIT: ok translation: I don't want to give my skype. I don't know anything else that could help with speedrun.

Please speak English in the English forum, or at least post an English translation alongside the French version. It's very irritating to members when they have to go over to Google just to read a post.
