Re: Rayman 3
Those two textures remind me of Begoniax and her toads, the first seems to have the weird look of her face, and a segment which looks a little like a cauldron head, and the other has a rather amphibious look to it.
In Rayman 3? Huh, I never noticed that.Haruka wrote:Popolopoï have faces drawn.

Re: Rayman 3
Haruka might be right... in the first part of the Fairy Council the strange fairy thing was absent (and there are no Popolopoï there), and it was present again in part 2 (there are Popolopoï there... I think).Master4lyf1 wrote:In Rayman 3? Huh, I never noticed that.Haruka wrote:Popolopoï have faces drawn.
I immediately had to think of Begoniax as well and I looked her up on RayWiki. Her face seemed quite different in the picture there I think. Also, if it is Begoniax - why would Begoniax be loaded into memory for the first part of the Fairy Council?Master4lyf1 wrote:Those two textures remind me of Begoniax and her toads, the first seems to have the weird look of her face, and a segment which looks a little like a cauldron head, and the other has a rather amphibious look to it.
Well, when I get to the Bog of Murk we'll see.
I also edited the previous post to include a couple more textures, here they are:
Also, I found this in the 2D Madness batch:
That's good news - this is clearly meant for a demo version and it's in the full game. Apparently they did not remove all unused textures... I wonder what else lies hidden in the game?
And new pics, from FC part 2:
Some of the images I'm uploading might be "false positives" (i.e. nothing special), but I'm uploading all pics I don't recognize cause I want to be sure we don't miss any unused ones...
I'm going to bed now - it's 3 minutes to midnight...
Re: Rayman 3
If you look carefully you can notice two spots in their faces, which I believe to be eyes.

RT, you're doing an outstanding job! I wonder what wondrous results you and Droolie could get, were you to team up.

I can confirm that. That texture you guys are talking about is the poppolopoï.Haruka wrote:

Thanks! Next school year, I'm going to university - I'm going to study Game Technology (a variant of Computer Science that focuses on game development). I'll learn lots of stuff that might be useful hereShrooblord wrote:RT, you're doing an outstanding job! I wonder what wondrous results you and Droolie could get, were you to team up.
Hmm yes - it's probably a Popolopoï then - all the clues point in that direction. Also note Popolopoï have those flickering lights whose textures I found near the fairy's textures.Spanex wrote:I can confirm that. I found a couple of odd things in FC pt. 3:
In FC pt. 4 I didn't see more unusual things... however, these two I saw before returned:
In FC pt. 5, this was loaded:
It seems to be the texture for a Teensie cage! But there are no cages in the Fairy Council!

Awesome to see other Rayman fans interested in hacking!
You should check out this: Someone recently managed to extract the textures from the game's files. That way you can get the original filenames and even textures that are never loaded up in the first place. I did the same for the Gamecube version's textures (and for Rayman Arena too), but those are quite low-res, so apart from the GC-exclusive things, the first link is more interesting.
I'm interested to hear how you made the 2D Nightmare map though. Did you capture screens from L.M. Murphy's video or did you actually manage to play it yourself?

That's because various textures, including the Teensie cage texture, are loaded in the beginning of the game. They do it so they don't have to load it for every single level (apart from the Fairy Council levels). They are the so-called "vignette" textures (that's the name the developers use for them).Robotic Teensie wrote:It seems to be the texture for a Teensie cage! Hmm... yes, I was planning on getting 3DRipper later for 2D Madness, but it's a good idea to use it on all the levels! I'll try it later.Spanex wrote:Yep, that's the teensie cage. Maybe they left a model somewhere in the level. We could possibly find out if we used 3DRipper.
Wow, that's cool! I shall try that!Drolpiraat wrote:You should check out this: Someone recently managed to extract the textures from the game's files. That way you can get the original filenames and even textures that are never loaded up in the first place.
The GC archive would be very useful, as it contains the 2D Nightmare texturesDrolpiraat wrote:I did the same for the Gamecube version's textures (and for Rayman Arena too), but those are quite low-res, so apart from the GC-exclusive things, the first link is more interesting.
I knew I couldn't obtain those textures from my PC version, it's great you've already got them. I hope they're not too low res to use in a map.
Every time I use Cheat Engine to extract textures, it gives me around 150-200 files. All files from 0 to 113 are always the same, and they contain standard stuff you would need everywhere, such as the menus, life bar, score counter etc. I believe those are the pre-loaded ones, the ones that don't need to be loaded for every single level. Cheat Engine extracts them along with the other textures.Drolpiraat wrote:That's because various textures, including the Teensie cage texture, are loaded in the beginning of the game. Now from file 114 onwards it gets interesting, because those textures are level-specific. They change depending on what area you're playing. The Teensie cage texture is not found in files 0-113, but it's in the level-specific files (in this area it's 142, to be precise). Also, the cage was not present in earlier areas of the Fairy Council (if it was a pre-loaded one, you'd expect it to be present in every area, right?).
Oh, by the way, just to make things clear: "FC pt. 5" - which is when I first encountered the cage texture - is at the Heart of the World, where the Teensies are dancing to a disco tune in their throne room. I've no idea why a cage texture would be present there... it could be a simple mistake from the developers, it could mean that at one point in the game's development there was supposed to be a cage in that area and they forgot to take the texture loading out, or it could mean there really is some cage left somewhere in the area - I'll find out with 3DRipper later on.
I have no GameCube, so I had to capture screens from that video. I actually downloaded that vid from YouTube so I could play it offline, frame-for-frame, to get some distances right.Drolpiraat wrote: I'm interested to hear how you made the 2D Nightmare map though. I thought the 2D Nightmare map was very interesting - of course, every R3 veteran kinda knows how 2D Madness plays out cause they have done it themselves so many times, but 2D Nightmare has been played by so very few people virtually no one has personal experience playing it. And the one vid that's out there was at times rather chaotic and sometimes made it difficult to grasp the route through the level (for instance L.M. Murphy sometimes simply walked on thin air). With that map, though, the level structure is easy to understand.
Whew, making that post was quite complicated with all those quotes from different people

The first is definitely a toad, now the other one... Hm... Where did I see those hands.
Re: Rayman 3
I swear I've seen the second one, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I had the guess of Muddibog, but. But no.
Re: Rayman 3
First one is obviously the toad from Bog of Murk. The other one looks a bit like the Paluchard to me, but the texture is missing things. I can't really identify it as otherwise.Rulez wrote:What are these then?Robotic Teensie wrote:

Edit: After taking a closer look it's indeed Paluchard. Maybe it uses an extra texture for its patterns
