Re: Rayman 3
I was wondering could these textures be modded. You know, I did that a lot with some games, when I found their textures and simply recolored and drew on them on an image manipulation tool. But I don't know is it that easy with R3 to draw a dick on a hoodlum's face and make it work ingame. It varies.
Re: Rayman 3
GN, you're perfect. I mean not literally, because I believe no human being is perfect, but you are the closest possible to get. Also not literally.
Re: Rayman 3
I think I'm going to need a PC version. I shall find out how to make it work!

In that case, why not check out this thread: viewtopic.php?t=9640
Since we're discussing the breaking open of the games, does anyone know if it is possible to get Rayman 2 to display in true widescreen as opposed to being stretched?

Re: Rayman 3
Maybe I could find and edit the screen resolution values with Cheat Engine... but I don't know whether that will just stretch it or not.

Re: Rayman 3
I've tried modifying the Ubi.ini file, but this is what I got:
Which is funny, because in Rayman 3, it works properly (more-or-less, the HUD and menus get weirded out)

Re: Rayman 3
Ok, I found about 9 base values that seemed to be the screen height... I tried changing them all and freezing, but then Rayman 2 stopped working.
Come to think of it, maybe I should have changed the width of the screen along with it. I'll try it again.
Edit: I managed to narrow it down to 7; I changed all the values and then this happened:
http://imgur.com/lRy6SlH
Another edit: Meh... I carefully changed those 7 width-height pairs one at a time to see whether they had any effect, and none of them did...
Problem: When I edit the resolution it falls back to whatever resolution is selected in the options... for example when I set everything to 1600x900, the game is still displayed in a 1024x768 area... and I'm unable to find those "1024" and "768" ones.
I tried changing them stuff back and forth and somehow it started displaying normally again (i.e. not as in the image above). All those values I'd used before were still frozen in old positions though... when I tried to find new values, R2 exited due to memory issues... damn my laptop might not be good enough for this stuff
I'll try again tomorrow.

Re: Rayman 3
No luck... I managed to change the game resolution from "high" (1024x768) to 1600x900, but it was stretched. I think it's not possible to break out of the 4:3 ratio and make it true widescreen by trying to mess with the resolution values...Robotic Teensie wrote: I'll try again tomorrow.
I have used MixerX' tools to extract textures from Rayman 3. This is a list of folders - and what I believe to be their related areas.
- bonus: Bonus minigames
- charact: Characters
- concile: The Fairy Council
- factory: Hoodlum Headquarters
- gc_bonus: More bonus minigames
- knagrott: The Desert of the Knaaren
- lande: The Land of the Livid Dead
- leptys: The Leptys dimension where you do the final part of the last fight
- lightmap: A lightmap (texture the game uses for lighting)
- lumsea: The boat ride at the beginning of the Summit Beyond the Clouds
- maraisbego: The Bog of Murk
- menu: The menu of the game
- menupc: An additional texture for use in the PC version
- mountain: The Summit Beyond the Clouds (after the boat ride)
- objets: Some miscellaneous objects appearing in multiple levls (e.g. a plum barrel)
- sfx: Special Effects (e.g. explosions, lights)
- sk8: Teensie Highways
- templeptz: The Longest Shortcut
- texts: A texture that contains letters and numbers to use in the interface
- tower: The Tower of the Leptys (minus the final Leptys Dimension)
- wood: Clearleaf Forest
lumfont_electronyellow_ad.gf
lumfont_electrongreen_ad.gf
lumair_body_ad.gf
Yellow, green and blue lums appear in Rayman 3's texture files! But they're not used anywhere in the game!
There is a folder called "lumsea" that holds textures for the boat ride at the beginning of the Summit Beyond the Clouds. I think this means the sea Rayman sails on is the Sea of Lums. However, RayWiki says it's called the Looming Sea.
My question is, why does RayWiki call it the Looming Sea? Is it a fan-made name or is it ever directly mentioned by an official source?
The wiki article says:
‘The seas are looming, all right – looming with waves of weird watercraft that only the Hoodlums were insane enough to launch. Tread these waters with caution.’ —official description
Where was this description taken from? The sea is not directly given the "Looming Sea" name in that quote.
If the name "the Looming Sea" is never officially given, I would suggest that the sea in TSBTC is actually the Sea of Lums. "The seas are looming" simply means "the seas appear as a large, frightening object" - it doesn't say anything about the actual name of the sea. The Sea of Lums can be looming too. Note that the textures are located in the "lumsea" folder.

Re: Rayman 3
I wonder now how you guys would pronounce 'Hoodlums'. Do you say [hood-looms] or [hood-luhms]? I would say [hood-luhms]. But it makes more sense as [hood-looms] considering where they came from.
Interesting, RT. What also intrigues me is that the core of the Lums is dubbed an 'electron' and a 'body'. This may mean nothing at all, or maybe absolutely everything.

Re: Rayman 3
Oh god, Shroob. I just realised I've been pronouncing it as Hood-looms all my life (I mean in English because in Polish it always was pronounced "loom", though I did think that the English pronouncation was "luhm").

Re: Rayman 3
I've always said "luhms". I read in Origins' manual it's apparently supposed to be pronounced "looms"... but I just keep calling it "luhms" (and therefore "Hood-luhms"). Isn't "luhms" the pronunciation used in R3?
When you pronounce it as "looms"... it becomes apparent "the Looming Sea" is a pun on "Sea of Lums" ("Sea of Looms").

Maybe Lums are some sort of... energised Electoons? :OShrooblord wrote: Interesting, RT. What also intrigues me is that the core of the Lums is dubbed an 'electron' and a 'body'. This may mean nothing at all, or maybe absolutely everything.

Re: Rayman 3
Er... yes, that's right... what's the point of that post? You want more info? There are textures for Special Invaders, and also (I think) Balloons, Commando and possibly more. At first I thought "gc" meant "GameCube", and I was hoping 2D Nightmare's textures would be there. But it seems it simply contains textures for the PC minigames. I don't know why some textures were put in gc_bonus and not in bonus.TFDs39 wrote:gc_bonus: More bonus minigames

Re: Rayman 3
Oh, yes! The magical lights are [looms] but hoodlum is an actual English word (which is also what Rulez noted) which is why it's a weird way to make a pun of it in Rayman 3 - they were [looms], but now they're (hood)[luhms], which would make more sense (as a pun) if it was (hood)[looms].Robotic Teensie wrote:I've always said "luhms". And even though I know the right way to pronounce it is [looms], in my heart they will forever remain Lums. (with an 'uh'

I still prefer to say 'luhm,' mostly because that's what I've known it as all my life, despite the fact that 'loom' does sound nicer and technically makes more sense.

Likewise, I've been trying to convert to the correct pronunciation, but the "uhm" pronunciation has stuck with me.
Re: Rayman 3
I always pronounced as "Hudlahmz", since it is hey they pronounce in the game.

Ooh I see. I didn't know that. In Rayman 3, the lums themselves are [luhms] too - I think I heard Murfy saying that in the Fairy Council.Shrooblord wrote:The magical lights are [looms] but hoodlum is an actual English word
