Doctor Who

I was disappointed with the Cybermen episode, as it didn't really seem to focus on the Cybermen all that much. It was more of a "Doctor fighting something that's taken control of him" episode to me. Though the Cybermen themselves looked pretty awesome and acted as such, too.
If I was to be pathetically nitpicky though I don't like how they walked. It was like they were all doing some dancing act or something, personally I liked the more emotionless steel soldier feel they had as the Cybus Industries Cybermen.
But that's only because I grew up with the new Who, I suspect. Whatever, it wasn't that bad of an episode, looking back on it.

No, I don't like it at all. They used to look cool to me. Now they look... too sleek, too streamlined.

I think Matt Smith does this very, very well. I can look back on what I thought of him when he was new, just after seeing my favourite Doctor leave, disliking, possibly even hating him for it. However, he's come to grow on me, with all his little quirky movements and excited faces. He can really bring out a grim side of his character too, and he's doing it very well in this latest series.

Oh dear Rassilon, indeed. The girl is a spoilt little thing and their overly posh accents bother me too. Their conversations don't make that much sense either; I heard the girl saying ["Sorry for calling your spaceship ugly!"], but I don't recall this ever happening. Of course, it could be off-screen events that are being referenced to here, but I get the feeling I may have missed out on something...?

Yup, apparently the DVDs and Blu-Rays were shipped early to some American buyers, meaning they were capable of seeing the finale prior to its official broadcast, naturally, someone is going to leak something sooner or later.

Anyway, I like the sleek, streamlined design of the new Cybermen, it fits well with the "upgrade" mantra they have, and it looks more humanoid, which I like also since they're supposed to be Cyborgs made from pieces of organisms. I'm particularly pleased they got rid of the "delete" catchphrase, it made the Cybermen a little too generic to me.

So the Doctor Who finale is on in less than an hour, and I'll be missing it.
Oh well, atleast we have iPlayer.

[So, The Name of the Doctor, the grand finale to the odd Series 7 and the prelude to the grand 50th episode.
It was different, though the stakes were high, it was much more...humble, there wasn't as much action, and it certainly felt much more slow and thoughtful, which was good, given that it was supposed to answer some big questions.
Though that may have been the case, I'm still curious as to why the Silence would go so far as to kill the Doctor to ensure the events here never happened, it does seem rather odd, but meh, I'll overlook it, else I get a headache.
The conclusion to the impossible girl arc was not what I was expecting, until it was made obvious by the events that transpired in the room of the time wound, so that was nicely done.

We also got a more reserved River Song, though she did have some of her usual feistiness, she felt more human and easier to relate to, and it would seem we're getting some closure on her story, though given the timey-wimey nature of her appearances, we may still see more of her.
The Whispermen looked good, though they weren't really given much of a presence, and I feel even the Great Intelligence could have held more of a presence, but that's just me.
The Paternoster Gang returned in their fourth appearance now, and they were actually rather well done, given the more serious nature of the episode, the psychic conference was a nice scene to have them in, and it was interesting how Jenny just proclaimed she was dead, but, she survived, thanks to Strax and his medical equipment.

Given the fact that this is the 50th Anniversary year, it was nice to see past Doctors running about, and also see the First Doctor steal the TARDIS, though a little more Paul McGann would've been nice.
And of course, we had the ending, the one which even reviewers in the press weren't given access to, the revelation of the Doctor's greatest secret, John Hurt, many have speculated him to be inbetween McGann and Ecclestone, and the one who fought in the Time War, I guess that remains to be seen.]
 
The final episode was great. I really, really enjoyed it. They wrapped up a whole bunch of stuff and they managed to end it [without a big dramatic good-bye to everyone, like they usually have.

Now, the real question remains: is that John Hurt thing a big joke, or what...?

That was a startling episode. I loved it. Most of my friends disliked it for not providing many concrete resolutions. I'm more interested in the mythology and the broad strokes of the characters than I am in airtight logic and neat plotting. This finale delivered, big time.

50th Anniversary spoilers below, so don't look if you're really against spoilers and stuff.
[From what I know, Hurt is looking more and more likely like a Doctor's incarnation that he decided to forget about. I read somewhere that someone had a theory that he was the Doctor that was around during the Time War, and he did such disgraceful things in his name that when he regenerated into Eccleston's doctor he decided to block the regeneration out of his memory and pretend it never existed.
Now how that could really work considering how many times we've seen all the faces of the Doctor before I don't know, but hey, Moffat managed to wrap up the finale fairly decently, here's hoping they'll be able to sort out that particular anomaly too.]
 
Oh, you've bumped it back up just as I was going to do so.
To explain, in the classic Doctor Who series, it was established that a Time Lord can regenerate 12 times, giving them 13 incarnations in total, I believe the Master reached this limit at some point, and swapped bodies with other beings in order to maintain his existence.
I believe Time Lords can give and take regenerations, as I believe a conversation in "The Five Doctors" had the Time Lords offer the Master a new set in exchange for his services.
 
I'm sure they'll come up with something to circumvent it, if the Master can do it, why not the Doctor?
 
It was a really bad idea in the first place. Just an excuse they made up to explain the decayed appearance they gave the Master after Roger Delgado died. Evidently they realised what a harmfully reductive idea it had been seven years later, because I'm pretty sure the line in The Five Doctors about the Master getting a new set of regenerations was included specifically to kill the idea that Time Lords have to die at the end of their thirteenth incarnation.
 
I saw the Doctor Who telephone booth in Glasgow today. Pretty cool. Bookstore nearby also had a shit ton of CD's and books ranging from Who's early days to just released.
 
That reminds me of a time when there was a TARDIS sitting on someone's roof garden in the centre of town, just by the city hall. I loved seeing that as a kid.
 
Right then, given how Comic Con is on, naturally more info on the 50th Anniversary special has been released, spoilerphobes, beware.

SPOILERS!
Anyways, to start, we have this obvious thing.
[It's to be expected, the Daleks are iconic foes, though from what I've read, we're going to be seeing some of the time war in this special.
A trailer was also shown, but it's not online, though I'd assume it'd be uploaded at one point or another, I'll update this post when that happens.]
