Rayman Raving Rabbids

I can admit that the writing is lacklustre but can we all not agree on how beautiful and slick the animation is? With cherry on top?

I agree, and plus show is not that horrible. It is watchable for me.
 
I think it is an ok cartoon, we couldn't except much more from the Rabbids anyway but I've got to agree with Stacey that the animation is nice.
 
Hm, I haven't watched much of Despicable Me, but I've seen comparisons between the Rabbids and the Minions from that movie series, how does this Cartoon compare to the Minion segments?
 
I think what makes minions more likeable than rabbids is the fact that Minions are more... eh... I'd say "organized". Minions are considered funnier maybe because their slapstick actually hits bullseye in the right moments. They have a benevolent vibe around them, and they're more enjoyable because they try to be nice and good, but end up fighting against each other in the middle of their funny gibberish. They're supposed to be cute in a bizarre way.

Rabbids aren't funny because they have an undefined position. The shorts try to make them look likeable and "free", but they just end up being a bunch of childish douchebags, being random and hurting people because they can. This double connotation makes it hard for the audience to identify themselves with the rabbids. Not to say that their slapstick is limited and awkward.

Minions are better because they are basically innocent kids discovering the world. Rabbids are the asshole kids who destroy your garden and do graffitti in your wall because they live in a "free" country.

As I said before, Rabbids were funnier when they were entirely defined as wild villains.
 
Very well said. And let's not forget to mention that Rabbids lives almost entirely on a couple of jokes. How often has something from the Rabbids been about toilet paper, beating each other up, or just randomly screaming BWWWAAAAAAHHH? I'll admit the original videos from the RRR gave me a few laughs, but it's years later now and Rabbids is either still recycling those jokes or shitting out something that's worse. No, a Rabbid getting physically hurt is not still funny after, what, six years?

Although I'm not a big fan of the Minions I will praise them for having more variety. They can be easily manipulated to do commit evil crimes, have a soft spot for cute things, care about what is precious to them, and much more. Despite being stupid and silly, the Minions do show that they have things that are important to them, or things they don't like. Rabbids, however, have the exact same reaction to everything they get their hands on or experience. The formula would be: Rabbid sees something happen or receives an item :arrow: Becomes confused by this :arrow: Goes fucking apeshit. We don't know what a rabbid actually values or what a rabbid does for enjoyment. In every sketch the Rabbids are just there and things just happen.

I guess that's the problem I'm facing with the original RRR trilogy. In the first two years I was finding the Rabbids fun, but it happens that I've been gradually finding them old since the third year on. The jokes are now too old and overused. I even hesitate grabbing a Rabbids game now with fear of getting even more bored than before grabbing the copy. I'm sticking with the comic books now, I stopped looking for their games since a good while. I think I would only grab the first game again if RPC was implementing Ubisoft's Hall of Fame of RRR1, there was a moment I stopped updating my scores in RaymanZone because of hackers in the top lists, making my ranking fake.
 
I watched it, and it was... okay? I can't say it was awful, but I really can't say it was great either. I laughed a few times, so that has to mean something, right? The animation was pretty good, but I've seen better. The one about the exorcist dude really surprised me, and it was probably my favorite segment. Overall, watchable, but not as good as Ghostly Adventures. At least that show has a plot and defining characters in it.

The voices for the human characters could be better, though.
EDIT: I also have a personal head canon that the four Rabbids in this show are the four Rabbids in TV Party, and they got distracted from chasing Rayman, and that's how he got back to the Glade.
 
Some jokes were okay. I actually liked the joke of the rabbid singing to a chicken to make it lay an egg. It didn't crack me up, but I think it was fun enough, because it's something I haven't seen from a Rabbid before... normally they would just beat the shit out of the chicken and that's it.

What actually made me chuckle was the Rabbid who used an octopus on his head and suddenly.... Elvis haircut. I don't know, it was silly and unexpected, and reminded me of the Tom and Jerry era.

The show is okay to watch for a while. Sometimes I think it's too slowpaced just to fill the 30 minutes. However... I must confess at some point I got a little annoyed.

Also, I just noticed this is technically the second TV show to have Rayman characters. Hehe.

I like the first game. It's the only one I wouldn't get annoyed or bored by. In my opinion the series already went downhill in the second game. I stopped purchasing them after Travel in Time. Forty dollars I could have used as toilet paper. Played the game twice and did pretty much everything it had to offer, and only liked about 5% of those things. Jesus. Go Home seemed like the game that would start turning it into a better direction but instead they are just falling down more and more, and that's probably not because they are lazy, but because Rabbids isn't a concept you can keep making games out of. If they want Rabbids to keep on growing they're going to need to come up with something creative because I doubt people will still be excited to see another party game on the shelves five years from now.
 
Is Segei still with the Rabbids? Variety like that character is key. They need a story, or at least, they need more characters than the same old recycled Rabbid dressed up as something else over and over again.

Do you mean Sergueï? I believe he vanished after the first RRR, which now that I think about it, is a fucking shame. He was the most interesting Rabbid character, although still pretty damn bland.
 
I think Serguei only appeared in the first, I think they dropped him like a bad habit after that, a pity too, I actually liked what they did, the whole gentle giant thing.
 
Sergueï only appeared in the first game, but he does makes a brief cameo in the North American cover of Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 for Wii:

While I like the fact that Rayman is in that cover... I don't like this cover. The shading and the colours look weird in my opinion. The pale background in general looks bland. While not entirely great, I think the european cover has more personality and is funnier to watch.

I agree, I prefer the European artwork even if Rayman isn't in there. The American one feels wierd for some reason.
