Stupidity

Post by technology4617 »

I wasn't able to find a topic for this anywhere on here, but this is pretty self-explanatory. Share with us some incredible stupidity, of any sort, on here. It could be of another member, of someone you know, of dumb salesmen, or even of your goddamn pet.

I'm going to make three entries, all of them involving computers.

1)
I've had many an encounter with dumb salesmen, but this one is the most recent:
*My mother and I are at Fry's [electronics chain store -- 'nuff said], strolling idly through the laptop department, when we get to the Sony department and a salesman greets us.*
SM: You interested in that? (referring to a VAIO Pro 13) It's a great computer.
ME: Yes, it is.
SM: Yeah it's got a brand-new Intel i5 processor.
MOM: Uh, I don't know what that means exactly.
SM: Well, these chips are faster and more efficient, meaning than an i5 processor is gonna give you the performance of an i7...
ME: *bites lip*
SM: ...and about three hours of extra battery time. This is probably the only computer in here that has this processor, except maybe that one. *gestures to another Sony machine*
(NOTE: This took place about a week ago. There were rows upon rows of laptops in the store with Haswell chips.)
SM: It's also got a better graphics card...
ME: (not able to stand it any longer) INTEGRATED graphics.
SM: Yeah, a better integrated card. Uh, Intel 4600...
ME: 4400.
SM: Yeah, 4400. Which is gonna give you better color quality and detail than the previous generation...
ME: ...

And to think, this was one of the more knowledgeable salesmen I had encountered.

2)
STUDENT: You know what I wish? That you could just play all the Xbox One games on the 360...

3)
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT: Um, my computer is running without the battery pack.
TEACHER: No. No, it's not.
ME: Is it plugged in?
STUDENT: Yep.
TEACHER: Well, duh!
STUDENT: I didn't know it could do that. THAT'S COOL! :D

In my opinion, for salesmen, stupidity and ignorance are the same thing, since salesmen are being paid to know about this crap. The other two entries are pretty much caused by a lack of common sense.

But, anyways, back on topic, hopefully others will post entries.

A recent blunder of mine was thinking that a bot in the RPC IM was a real person.

Well they were uninformed. That is nothing to the stupidy of the pupils of one school I visited: All boys in my class, really all boys, are obssessed with screws. They brought screwdrivers with to the school and unscrewed everything that came to their eyes and one genius brought a cordless screwdriver for one day. You can image what happened in that day.

:boon:

Well, I guess you could say that was a little screwy! And yes, that was intentionally awful.

That reminds me of a guy at my old school who thought that the parts in old computers were made of gold. He wanted to melt down the one that I was using for my science project.

I wonder why the guys at your school weren't obsessed with sex instead?

Hey no reason to boon me for their stupidy.

Yeah, this guy has really no idea.

I'm luckily not in that school anymore. And yeah, the same guy who brought a cordless screwdriver watched porns during work on computers.

I was trying to express shock. Wrong emoticon lol.

In Latin class at my old school (essentially a Latin study hall most of the time, though I did get fairly decent marks in the class), we all, including me, tended to fuck around on other websites when we got bored, but there was one guy who didn't use private browsing or anything when he did this, letting all the history and cookies of everything he was looking at, probably including porn, make their merry way onto that laptop's HDD. And, yes, all the computers were frequently inspected by teachers.

What possessed everyone to become obsessed with screwdrivers?

Yeah, I've seen many fads growing up, Rocket Balloons, those things they called scoobies, but I don't think I've ever seen a screwdriver craze.

"Duuh how do I shut baby up from crying?

Put it in a cupboard lol no-one will notice."

This is a real incident at a local hospital and it hit the headlines today.

I remember during a debate at my old school about Macs vs. PCs (a debate I could give less of a shit about now, but was important to me then), one guy smartly retorted to my claim of high-end PC hardware (something unheard of by most at my school), "Oh, yeah? Well, Macs don't need a graphics card!!!!!!!!"
