Rayman Headcanons

Hey! Rayman is kind of bald. Well, it's not that he's bald, it's that his hair is "limbless". Not fully attached to his head, like his hands and feet and head.

Remember the Big Rayman cheat/animation?
 
I remember reading about it on a cheat site back when I was very young kid, but I've never seen it.

If you were talking about the bald Rayman thing in the Vita version of Origins, then I whole-heartedly agree. Origins is filled with silly things, but I think that's crossing the line.
 
Yes, that's the one. On the PlayStation, you have to press all four L buttons before the brick animation. I guess that's why it's technically a cheat.

I believe Rayman did the same thing in the intro of French With Rayman.

Speaking of his hair, I also have a headcanon on why the back of it is gone in R2: the Pirates ripped a chunk of it out while Rayman was trying to evade their capture.

Posted this to THEdragon once last month, and was told that it was good:

Joe came from his home planet to Rayman's World on part of a study course in cooking on other planets. When he lands, his ship goes out of control, and crashes deep within the Caves of Skops. The first creature in Rayman's World that he sets his eyes on is the Firefly, who feels sympathy for him and guides him out of the cave to a beach. The two bond together there, with both becoming very attached to the little place. Joe starts to dream that one day he can put his cooking skills in practise by opening a diner there, but doesn't have enough money to do so. Continuing in his course, he leaves the Firefly and the caves and heads to Picture City, where he works in an expensive restraunt, becoming a very respected chef. Despite this place earning him more money than an oddly placed diner outside a cave ever would, he never forgets this dream, and one day he quits his job at the restraunt to make his dream come true. To his surprise, when he gets back, he finds his firefly friend still on the beach, having caught up with what had happened to Joe via newspaper articles of his success and being very proud of how far he had come, but under the belief that she would never see her again. From that day forward, Eat at Joe's was born, and Joe and the firefly have worked there ever since.
 
I actually have a headcanon about the light up fist from Joe. Because it's his fist that lights up and not an actual firefly, I never believed it was a firefly that did it. I know that's what it said, but I still like to theorize.

Maybe it's quantum physics that lights up the fist (I was taking chemistry the same time I was theorizing about Rayman's species). I have a headcanon awhile back about how Rayman's species used to be human until the Great Protoon made their hands and feet mimic electrons and turned their torsos into the nucleus. Well I thought I'd continue that.

To explain why quantum physics applies here, a quantum leap is where an electron leaps from its original level to a higher level in the electron cloud, mostly happening because of a chemical reaction and/or because heat was added to it.

When an electron goes back down to its ground state after a quantum leap, it emits light (the reason fire emits light). So it's simple: if Rayman's people are like atoms, then Joe just gave.Rayman something that heated his body up enough to make his fist take a "quantum leap", and therefore emit light whenever it comes back to him.
 
About Dark Teensies I don't think the ones in Legends were Ales but just regular Dark Teensies. You can tell who's a Dark Teensies by looking at their nose. most Teensies have swirls on their nose while dark ones have a darker tip. I also believe Mr.Dark was the first Dark Teensie and is Andre's brother created by Jano. Not only because he was the first he was also the most dangerous.
 
Meh, I can't say I'd be obliged to such an idea if it ever were made true, I'd hope Mr. Dark remained non Teensy for one thing.

Is that tpo Mr.Dark being a Teensy or how to find a dark teensy?
 
The whole thing in honesty. It's personal taste, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a bad idea, only that it's not an idea that I'd be fond of.
 
The Joe stuff reminds me, I once came up with a theory that Joe had been exiled from his homeworld as punishment for creating the Robo-Pirates. Good times.

Mr Dark being a Teensy is a terrible idea. Teensies are the most banal and common species in the series. They had some allure in Rayman 2, where it often seemed that only four of their kind existed, but after Origins and Legends their mystique has been drained away entirely. Mr Dark is still a popular character nearly two decades after his only major outing released – his cool and mysterious nature is the primary reason for this. Turn him into a Teensy and you destroy everything about him that ever made people want him to return. The only viable way to give Mr Dark an explanation or backstory would be to apply the philosophy Andrew Cartmel developed for Doctor Who in the 80s: reveal new information about the character, but do so in such a way that increases his mystery and raises more questions than it answers. Mr Dark can only be cosmic in nature.

I don't remember that, but it would be odd since despite of being an extraterrestrial there is no evidence in he being involved with the Robo-Pirates. I actually have a headcannon for them: they live in a distant steampunk planet full of pollution and almost completely artificialized. The known Robo-Pirates and more different kinds live in there and have many factories to create more inhabitants. A reason for why maybe the Robo-Pirates could be searching for the Four Masks wouldn't be only to dominate the Glade but also to use Polokus' power to restore their homeplanet to what it was before or even to expand their colonies.

I have the exact same opinion. I do like Teensies, especially for being mystical and ancient magical creatures that were ocasionally appearing to help Rayman (or some to be freed like in Rayman 3) but unfortunately in Rayman Origins/Legends they seem to be more banal creatures... and that's sad. I did enjoy the return of the Teensies as rescuable creatures (and even finally confirmed there are female Teensies in the Glade, like R3 suggested at some points) but I think that saving 600 of them makes you wonder about their rarity.

I never enjoyed the idea of Mr. Dark being a Teensie and the fact he was ultimately scrapped from Origins, especially after knowing how the game got in the final version, it makes me relieved. Although Mr. Dark is not my favourite Rayman villain (but it is very close to the first place anyway), a reason for I enjoy Mr. Dark a lot is the fact that we barely know anything about him: a sinister sorcerer who was never seen the face or the whole body itself, except for the eyes and the hands. Isn't this really cool? It wouldn't make quite sense either to be a Teensie due to his height comparasion with Rayman: Mr. Dark is definitely taller and Teensies don't have those giant yellow eyes in the way they are. I think it is important to keep the real identity hidden but a minor new detail or other would be quite welcomed by the way. But as a Teensie? Heck, no.

Ales is the "replacement" for the Mr. Dark gap, and is intended to be the real enemy in Origins (and Legends in a way too) but honestly, I don't like him a lot. I think I now respect more André as a villain now.
 
Spiraldoor's Joe theory kinda makes sense to me. Just like the Robot Pirates are the only real technology in R2, Joe's restaurant has the only real technology in R1. They could be connected somehow because of that.

And I agree 100% that Mister Dark would make an awful Teensie. The fact that you knew nothing about him and that you didn't know what he looked like made him a uniquely rare character in Rayman-- a one-of-a-kind Rayman villain.

The only looks into his personality you ever even get are that he's observant (always watches Rayman), strategical (kidnaps Betilla so she can't give him power ups anymore), and sadistic (teases Rayman with his own fist).

It's what made him an iconic villain, and turning him into a Teensie (because we all know what they're like) would take that away from him.
