I do enjoy the little nuisances here and there like the extra animations, but, other than that, the graphics quality is virtually the same, and actually improved upon in the PlayStation version.

I know it's a matter of personal preference, but judging by the comments, the main reason people liked the Jaguar version's graphics were because of the better recording quality of the Jaguar footage.

Actually, the Jaguar version's animations are better as they include some sort of interpolation between every frame, while the PSOne version doesn't have this. So I can see why Ad would prefer the Jaguar version's graphics. :)
The Jaguar version also has less animations though, and the way the "hurt" animation freezes halfway is pretty bad if you ask me.

I can now officially state that Rayman Designer is the most difficult of all the different versions of Rayman 1, its spin-offs and level packs. It's the only one I've never been able to beat until today. Ranging from genuinely fun and challenging levels with extremely intelligent level design to ones so buggy, frustrating and trial-and-error that they shouldn't have even made it into the cutting-room (only the minority are like this though), it's my favourite Rayman level pack, and it seems to have the most originality and care put into it.

I am not sure but from what I played, I think Japanese PSOne version has same Animations like Jaguar version. I noticed that Japanese Rayman 1 is much closer to Jaguar version than US/EUR one for PS1 in sound effects too.

Speaking of unusual level designs in Rayman Designer, why the heck did someone sit the Musician on top of a torch in the 4th mountain level?

He/She was probably butt-hurt about the Musician (no pun intended).

So you tried Rayman Designer's official levels? Poor you :P. I compare Rayman Designer as the Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels equivalent to Rayman's franchise. When I recorded my walkthrough for YT, it was a blind one so it was really the first time I was aiming for the 100% conclusion, and it is certainly not piece of cake since the level design of the great majority if not all of the 24 levels are confusing and barely help the player to know where to go to collect the remaining Tings. Patience and exploration above all.

What could the Musician possibly have done to get such a response? XD

One of the things I find the most disturbing is how they assume that you won't miss any tings along the way; usually the sign spawns close to the last ting. Often I'll miss just one or two somewhere along the road, and then once I've gone through the whole course, I have to re-explore the entire area to find those one or two I missed, and then once I find them, I have to, once again, re-explore the entire area to find the exit sign, and once more, I will often lose my last life while trying to find the exit sign. On the levels where you only have one spare life, usually it's very difficult to die via collision and you'd have to fall off an edge, but in Tick Tack Toe for instance (the last Picture City level), the whole level is basically suspended on moving platforms and drawing pins, so just nudging anything that damages you will send you careening into the abyss, and I almost always died at least once at a particular part. That is, until I found the red ting gendoor that spawns three 1-ups at the start. That allowed me to progress to the end, but after a billion attempts, I finally managed to beat the level having only died once, in six minutes.

I might actually do a speedrun of this game. You play the levels where you can die easily so many times over to the point where you've basically mastered it already upon your first completion.

Rayman Designer was one game I keep banging my head on. This may sound like I never completed the game, but after 1 month, I finally completed that game. Some are easy, some are hard, that is pretty much what describes what RD is about.

It seemed to me that the Jaguar version's animations simply ran faster. And, besides, Ad liked the graphics for the supposed touches to the sprites and backgrounds, which, again, is a matter of personal preference, as I prefer the PS version's graphics.

On the topic of Rayman Designer and the other spin-offs, I could never really get into those games, as the level design and overall emotion of the game was very lacking when compared to the original.

Absolutely, however, taken purely on a gameplay perspective, some of them are actually very fun indeed. While the atmosphere is my favourite part about Rayman 1, I value the spin-offs purely for their mostly genuine challenge, and the satisfaction of beating them. They're much more comparable to NES titles in that way almost.

I've got to admit, while I know a lot of people seriously dislike anime adaptations along this line and I can perfectly understand why, I actually find myself really, really enjoying most of them, including this one. It just makes me want to read the whole comic, if there is one.

Hm, they just felt like more tedious version of R1 to me. I played through the whole of Candy Chateau, and felt more like I had wasted precious time than actually had the satisfaction of beating. But to each their own, I suppose.

Personally, the game that I was the most satisfied to beat was Conker's Bad Fur Day, as ending the game was the close of an experience that I will never forget (unless I obtain some sort of brain disease, and even then I'll probably remember). I truly loved that game, and was both happy and sad at the same time to have beat it.

I enjoy Anime adaptations too. There is no whole comic from what I seen on dA profile, only short ones. But who knows, maybe in future.

For me, it really depends on how it's done. Some "fan-ime" adaptations (as I call them) are just terrible as they feel completely shoe horned, and don't even respect what makes the original western piece great. Others feel like they are taking the original designs/lore/etc, and doing something different with them, basically making it a tasteful change in art style. Not that I necessarily would want these adaptations to be the new OFFICIAL faces, they are just interesting AU's.

The comic OCG posted fits into the latter category, thankfully.

Just cleared Space Mama's Crater! I only had two cages to get, but as I couldn't remember which ones I had collected and which I had left behind, I had to play the whole level set as if I hadn't obtained a single electoon :confus:

6 more to go until Candy Chateau.....

Next up, The Hard Rocks. Or Eat at Joes, depending on what mood I'm in...

@Sonicbrawler:
Basically, I agree.

On a side-note, Dark in that comic looks an awful lot like incognito.

Knowing that the level designers were regular Rayman players, it doesn't amuse at all why the levels are so unpolished in terms of player guidance for the correct directions for the Tings and the Exit Sign itself. To tell the truth, if it weren't the YT walkthroughs, I would probably have never adquired motivation to play the 24 levels of it, knowing how frustrating they can be. There are fun levels though.

What I can recommend as an alternative are Ubisoft's 60 inédit levels released later in an expansion with a similar name. These are already designed by Ubisoft people so they are much more accessible and enjoyable in the gameplay experience. At least I had more fun with these than Rayman Designer.
