This dream happened awhile ago, but I still can't get it out of my head. This dream had given me SUCH a knew perspective on the movie and finally helped understand all the symbolism and reason behind Jack's actions and personality! It was when I got back into The Nightmare Before Christmas, and it was so vivid, like a lucid dream.
I'd dreamt that I was a girl who ended up in Halloween Town long before the events of the movie. But it wasn't just a magical fangirly self-insert; I'd ended up forming a great friendship with Jack, mostly because I was human and he knew what it was like to be human and actually have a soul. All residents of Halloween Town once had human lives, and, upon coming to Halloween upon the universe's decision that they were meant to be there, ultimately forgot what it'd been like to be human and have a soul and human values such as love and sincerity.
In the dream, I hadn't celebrated Halloween in a long time, because she was tired of being addicted to the fear and the adrenaline of the holiday. It hadn’t felt good to be addicted to fear. But upon coming to Halloween Town I started liking the holiday again and started getting back into it. Up until a play Jack was going put on in the theatre, a gory and horrifying epic ultimately ending in tragedy. He wanted me to help him with it, even star as the tragic heroine.
This was the most terrifying part in the whole dream: It was then I'd realized I was starting to get addicted to fear again, shunned Halloween Town and Jack (despite being his only real friend), and tried to get back home. But Jack, determined not to let the only person he's ever had anything in common with leave forever, offered for me to stay there forever and (upon my furious refusal) CHASED me all the way back to the human world!
Dring that chase, I realized that Jack is the ONLY PERSON IN HALLOWEEN TOWN that remembers anything about his human life;the only one who knows the concepts of love, compassion, sincerity, thoughtfulness, the only one there who even had A SOUL! That was why he'd grown so attached to me, because I was human and still had all those attributes, because I was his only real friend as the only one who had anything in common with him and understood why he was growing tired of Halloween. So I devised a weird solution that'd benefit us both: make a clone of me out of human parts.
Dr. Finklestein (who'd, strangely enough, been my father in his human life), offered to create a "human" girl just like me to be a companion to Jack, so the Pumpkin King wouldn't be so lonely. He created her to be Jack's age, to be his friend, to bring him joy. And that girl's name was... Sally.
