Ninth edition of the posts in a day record

Post by Hunchman801 »

― June 25th 2014 ―

Record day will take place on August 2nd, 0.00 AM to 12.00 PM (GMT+2). If you're unsure how that translates in your time zone, post your location here and we'll answer you.

― June 12th 2014 ―

Please let us know about your availability on July 26th and August 2nd, and if possible the other week-ends of August.

― June 11th 2014 ―

For the ninth time, Pirate-Community is organising a posts in a day record. Here is a short description for those of you who joined recently:
Hunchman801 wrote:Each year since 2006, we organise a posts in a day record at PC. The whole thing is quite simple: it consists in posting the most possible messages in a predetermined time span of 24 hours. The goal is not only to break a new record every year or bring more activity to the forums, but also to shuffle our topics in order to bring new discussions for the following year.

This is not a spam contest, and useless messages are obviously not welcome. However, the special conditions during the record day will be the cause of a certain leniency, especially as concerns old topics, which can be bumped freely.
Last year we beat the previous record with a staggering 29535 posts! Can we do better this year? That's up to you!

The rewards rise to the occasion: each post is worth 15 Tings within the given time span, and then come the bonus Tings: 1500 for participating, 1500 for beating one's previous posts in a day record, and 3000 Tings for the winner. For example, someone once earned the outstanding amount of 56885 Tings that day.

As for the date, we have the possibility to do it on Saturday, June 21st (yes, in less than two weeks!), else we'll have to wait until August. It'd be ideal to not have to wait that long, so if you cannot make it on the 21st please say it here! Depending on the estimated participation we'll then decide on the final date.

Get ready to have fun! :partyhat:

21th June... Not the ideal day, since my summer holidays aren't at that time :/
Can't we move that somewhere mid July?

Seeing as some have asked in the past, might as well note it again here, these were the results for last year, feel free to check if you want to know what to beat: viewtopic.php?p=799849#p799849

That's not a bad date for me, but it depends on how the times work for my timezone.

Since I'm in the UK how does that work?

When would it kick off in UK time, and when would it end? Just so I know.

Thanks, look forward to it!

It'll be around midnight for us UK people, that I've no doubt about.

If it's happening on the 21st of June (for example) then it'll start in UK timezone at 11 pm on the 20th and end at 11pm on the 21st.

I see, thanks for clearing that up.

When it's all decided on will the time-zones be stated like you have put them?

Because when it comes to things like that, I really like the arrangement to be super clear just like how you replied.

Once matters have been solidified, there's usually a ticker at the top of all forum pages to announce the impending day.

And the time restrictions?

Nice. Well I really do look forward to this and I'm glad that it's hopefully happening soon!

I can make the 21st of June.

I won't be available first thing in the morning, but then I'll be able to be there for late morning through the afternoon.

Then I'll be away for a bit in the evening

Then I'll have a good evening slot.

I really hope to do 1k posts...

Basically the same counter, will then have a counter for the time remaining on Record Day, and it will tell you how many posts you have made that day.

That's pretty sweet, I was wondering how that was calculated.

Well you guys have done it 8 times before, so I'm sure you lot know what you're doing!

and the good thing is that if I do have any questions on the day, there should be plenty of people online to help! haha

Aye the counter will first count down when it starts and when it does it'll count the end of RD, as well as showing how many posts you've made and the posts the community made. There's no breaks in RD at all as it goes on for the 24 hours and will only stop if the servers for whatever reason crashes but you can be assured that the servers will be checked beforehand so there's no need to worry about that happening.

Well I guess the counter doesn't have to apply to timezones, because it's the same difference right? The timer is the timer.

Well it'd be nice if we hit 30k posts, as the last record was so close to that!
