Wii U-wise, I just got Excitebike and Super Mario Bros. 2 free from Club Nintendo, and I'm about to buy a SNES game from the Virtual Console shop. Probably A Link to the Past, but possibly Earthbound, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, or Mega Man X. On the GBA side, Wario Land 4 and Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. Suggestions, fellas?

Well shoot. I'm the one who gets what they are familiar with, never wanting to step out of their comfort zone and try something different. I just say that you should go with what you think will provide you the most fun.
I myself have yet to play a vast majority of the SNES games but from what I heard of the games you listed, they are some of the best on the system. The GBA is tricky since I am not familiar with the Wario Land series, but I did enjoy the Mario & Luigi games.

I'm going to be that one nostalgia fag to say that I really think the new Donkey Kong Country games can't even fucking compare to the original trilogy on the snes. Really, joking aside from nostalgia, the new DK Country games are missing that "Rareware" feel and it's incredibly noticeable. It just isn't the same without rareware, the vibrant colors are completely absent. Remember the carnival level in Donkey Kong Country 2? That was fucking amazing.
And yeah Brad, I insist you play some Super Nintendo games (Mainly Earthbound). I own around 80 games for the system, so I have a huge love for it.

I differ from your view. I've only played the Original first DKC so far, but I love the new games because truth be told they feel the same to me. Mind the new mechanics from the new games, but the controls are almost the same. I don't feel the difference between Rareware and Retro gameplay wise. And whadda mean the new games have the absent vibrant colors? Both Returns and Tropical Freeze are bursting with color!
I used to have an SNES in my youth but sadly, my parents sold it. Luckily, there's emulators and now I can just download the games but it would still be nice to get the real thing.

You aren't looking hard enough. Sure gameplay wise they remain the same but the music, colors, and vibrantness is totally different. You have to be kidding me if you're seriously telling me you think Tropical Freeze and Returns were practically the same as DK Country trilogy color wise... I'll admit Tropical Freeze had some color but it DOESN'T EVEN match to the original trilogy, look:
Take a good glimpse at it, the light slightly peaking through the sky in a dark forest gives it such an unreal environment that truly is stunning.

Uh... cool I guess? It's just a forest, nothing varied in it, no beautiful lush music to accompany it, just generic unmemorable forest music playing.
Seriously, where the fuck are the carnival levels? They are not bad levels to choose but they seem really generic for what they are, a forest with really nothing added gets incredibly tiring.
In Tropical Freeze a lot of the worlds (with VERY few exceptions) I visited felt very blandish... a jungle, an underwater world, an iceberg level. Look at what Dk Country 2 had, a carnival, a rather dark version of the forest (gloomy gulch) and other things. I should also mention how the new villains introduced in the new DK Country games feel incredibly bland, what the fuck ever happened to King K. Rool? Instead they replace it with a generic limbless tiki monster... come on.

You can't tell me none of the songs in the new Dk Country games match up to this at all. It's beautiful, and this is just 16 bit music, but I really feel within a forest environment. The music on DK Country 2 gave the levels variety, and a noticeable catchy tune. The music for the new games are generic as fuck, not bad, but doesn't stand out at all.
Sorry for flipping out but I'm sick of hearing the argument that we're just "Nostalgia fags" for liking the old DK trilogy far better. The new DK games, while not bad, truly lacks what the original trilogy had. It's like a recipe and how different restaurants make burgers differently. Some get it down very nicely whileas others- aren't bad, but aren't great either. This is entirely the case with the Donkey Kong Country series. The original trilogy had that secret Rareware recipe that Nintendo simply couldn't match with there DK Country games.

I agree with you completely, Rayfist. Still, some might prefer the HD sheen of Tropical Freeze. I think it wasn't bad (except for world 3, which is terrible) but it was bland.

Well call me blind because I can't see it. The screennshot you provided gave me no real feel of un-realness. The carnival's nice, I guess.
While Returns did have the generic world themes, DKC 1 had the same problem as well. The only difference between the two is that DKC 1 had the Snowy Mountains while Returns replaced it with the Cliffs. Tropical Freeze may have the worlds "bland" because that's how you described them. Tropical Freeze features a Shipwrecked Island, Windmill Hills dominated by Owls, a bright Savannah that escalates to a Hellish Landscape, a Fruit Factory that included the most juiciest of fruits, and the Home of Donkey Kong converted to an Icy Fortress. And what seals the deal with the new games is that there is a sense of progression. The next level always starts where the other ended. Now that's impressive!
And don't go on about how the new enemy of Returns is just a fucking plank of wood. In DCK 1, King K. Rool's just a crocodile with a fucking cape and a crown. And the Snowmads are fucking great. They feel threatening and have a purpose to get of rid of DK and pals. Lord Fredrick and the Snowmads want his Island just to expand his kingdom and possibly even further. King K. Rool wanted the banana hoard for what? Just to piss DK off? Okay! Hell, even Tiki Tong wanted the bananas for a reason! To make him more powerful with the addition of hands. It's stupid but still a reason!
And while the Trilogy does have some great fucking music, I'm more of an orchestra guy. I prefer the real deal over digital composing. Yes, the soundtrack is amazing, but the "Remastering" in Returns is so good! Except Aquatic Ambiance, which I prefer it stay in 16 Bit form. That's the only exception. Also, Tropical Freeze remixes "Stickerbush Symphony" and it's mind-blowingly fantastic! I'd even say it's better than the original. The remix has the angelic choir and the panflute. It's just so good! And "Homecoming Hijinx" is not even close to generic. It's a badass theme for badass enemies who mean business.

Like UGH!!! How do you possibly now that? Sure, if you played it and have your reasons then yeah. But otherwise, it's annoying and obnoxious. People want the old and criticize on how the want the company to do something new. Hypocrisy much? Anyways, the Original Trilogy may be good and all, but the newer Country games leave a way bigger impact and a way better impression than the SNES games.

This has nothing to do with nostalgia. Even taking off the nostalgia glasses I have a far better experience. It lacks the Rareware feel, it isn't the same. Alright, so here's how I see it. Rayfist, I completely agree with your points, and I understand yours too, Brad. Brad likes the newer games, and Fist likes the Rare games. I don't think Brad is calling Fist a "nostalgia fag" (not a becoming word, by the way, you kikes), and I don't think Fist was trying to belittle Brad for liking the newer games. All I know is, I don't really care for the series, and Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex is great.

I haven't played much Donkey Kong Country, but I have to disagree with the old games looking more vibrant and colourful than the new ones. That's not necessarily a criticism of the old games though - the original DKC games were not even supposed to look too vibrant or colourful. They were meant to have a photo-realistic feeling to them. Not completely, but the textures are a lot more brown and murky compared to the more recent DK games, which are a lot more cartoony in both the environments and in how the characters are animated in a slapstick, comical manner. It's an intentional choice, since the old DKC games were designed to show off how pre-rendered images could be used to make extremely detailed sprites on the SNES. And what better way to show that than with somewhat photo-realistic environments.
Basically, comparing the two is similar to comparing Rayman 1 to Origins/Legends, only old DKC and new DKC have even more aesthetic differences.
