I think you're generally better off with the GOG version. If you have a retail one, chances are it's got some glitch somewhere that'll make the infamous Pirate Head appear. (Mine does, but the place where it appears always depended on what PC I played on – on the PC I had back in 2003, it didn't appear at all…)

All of them except Grolem 13. His music is cool, even though his appearance is basically Axel with MPEG2 compression artifacts on top of it.
I liked the zombie pirates and those with the missiles too.

Thanks for your replies! I ended up figuring it out. I got the gog version and it worked immediately. I was able to set the game resolution to 4k and got the widescreen patch working. This, in addition to mapping my game controller to the keyboard keys, and the game is functioning really well and looks fantastic for its age. Can't wait to finally play through this. I'm a big fan of platform games and actually never played this all the way through! I must say this is an awesome fan community and you guys are definitely keeping this game (the others too!) alive!

Great to hear!

If you're playing in 4K, you might want to try out an upscaled texture pack too, to make it look even better:

Hi friends,
Forgive me if this is not the right place for this. But does anyone know if the retail disc can still be played on modern systems? Tried many of the tools here on the forum - tried both the x64 patcher and Rayman Control Panel and the game refuses to launch. I'm on Windows 11 - wanted to play the PC version to take advantage of the widescreen patch posted here and better graphics. Can I still use patches like that from here with the GOG version? Any help / advice is appreciated.
You should be able to run it on Win 10. My copy is damaged, but you can try to copy off the files and install some patches.

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this - but I'm giving it a shot seeing as it was a sort of advertisement for Rayman 2.
Does anyone know if a higher quality version of the music video
It's Good To Be The King by Royal V exists? I absolutely love the little Rayman animations present in the video.

There is an
upload of that in archive.org, but I don't think the quality is any better. However, I found images of the vynil and the back cover:

I wonder if this should also be added to the
Rayman in popular culture article (btw, I don't know why the "Advertisements" title doesn't show up for me).

Well, you can find
this video too. Not a big improvement, but it sounds much better.
Looking at the comments of the video it seems one of the guys who were singing commented. He only has
this short video uploaded on YouTube. Not much story there, it seems it's just a typical behind the scenes video.

I think this has a very good potential for custom smilies.

Actually...it looks kind of awesome and weird at the same time...

Dunno if it's been mentioned before, but…
After finishing the Marshes of Awakening, and opening the spiral door, Ssssam was just sitting there in the corner. I'm guessing this always happens, but on the other hand I guess it
could be some kind of artefact of playing in widescreen, or with the first-person mod, or my having
screwed around with the game's timer, or some combination of the above
Anyway, I was able to shoot his scarf twice, but both times I just got bounced off onto the ending platform again, then the third time Rayman's fist didn't connect at all. The first time I shot it though, it did restart the level music!

That's pretty curious, I thought it was simply programmed to disappear lol.
Posting this in the same post as it's a bit weird to double post in a short period of time... Reading
this post reminded me of some stock samples which were used in Rayman 2. There were a couple of videos, which were about 1 hour long, which had not only some samples used in Rayman 2, but also other stock samples which were used in other games of that era (Spyro, Crash, etc.). Does anybody know the video/s I'm talking about?

You mean compilation videos like
this one? I'd say have a look through this topic:
viewtopic.php?t=24159
Also, of course that was an artefact of my using the first-person mod!

Normally the camera is restricted so you can only look towards the spiral door, you can never see where Ssssam has gone. I'm surprised I didn't notice it before, although it did remind me of
this dream I had two years before I even tried the first-person mod!

I read the topic and, of course, it was mentioned what I was talking about. It was a long video with lots of Distorted Reality samples, but I checked it out and it seems you can find them in shorter videos. Thanks for the answer!

As if poor Ssssam didn't look sad enough, now we find out that he's been waiting for Rayman by that pier ever since.

These votes surprise me, I didn't expect the Nintendo 64 version to be so low. Even the Playstation 1 version with all the cutout content still got more votes than the N64 version, the OG version! I can understand why people like the PC version so much, I really like it as well, but I still prefer the N64 version more, I even have the original green cartridge (here's a question: why was it green??). I haven't played the PC version too much though, so my mind might change, it really depends.

I think the general feel is that the PS1 version has some unique stuff to it (even if it came at the expense of other stuff), so it has its own appeal. Whereas the N64 version is completely identical content-wise to the PC version, but is technically inferior.
