Greengoop wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 4:31 pm I dunno why people brew up this vision of Rayman 2 being incredibly dark and emotional. It’s literally just “oh no, robo pirate” “oh no, obstacles” “cutscene where Ly says some smack for a couple of second, how sad, I’m gonna cry and pray in my rayman 2 cult building”. Like Rayman 3 has a lot darker story, but it is outweighed by all the silly jokes which the R2 devs forgot about when creating their “perfect” game
To be frank, I don’t really find Rayman games in general to be dark. Edgy? Also questionable. Rayman 2 merely has a more serious nature unless I’m missing something.

Dumbo TV wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:09 pm Yes but it's the only dark moment in the game, I like this constant unhealthy side of RRR, these weird little creatures invade the glade, they don't even speak, Rayman knows nothing about his enemy, he is locked in a gray prison, very industrial, similar to human architectures, very different from the extravagant and more fanciful constructions of the pirates and Hoodlums, everything is dirty, gray, desolate, rusty, the way the rabbids observe Rayman through the window like a strange thing
That’s overanalysing on a whole new level! :oops2:

Greengoop wrote: Sat Oct 05, 2024 8:18 pm Unpopular opinion: “raymanian” shouldn’t mean “goofy”. I know ive been supporting the Ubi-Art games a lot lately, but saying something is a better rayman game based on how goofy it is is stupid
I agree, slapstick is essentially the shittiest form of humor.

I agree too, let's keep an air of mystery!

I do love the Ubi-Art games but my no means would i call them funny. Neither would I say about people who try to become “slapstick comedians” in public

I'd argue that fart jokes are the shittest form of humor and pop-culture references aren't far behind.

My problem with Raymanian (as implemented in Rayman 2) is that is a handful of sentences cobbled together. It could have benefitted from more effort.

Hmm in light of this conversation, would it be unpopular to say I liked the pig-latin in Origins?

Silly Master! Pigs don't speak latin : nobody would understand them, it's a dead language!

But to be serious : I didn't mind it so much because pig latin uses an english base and therefore when spoken quickly like in Origins it just sounds gibberish to my ear (and I'm quite fluent in brexitanian)

Nope, I also like it, it’s better than pure gibberish as well

I agree that they could have made it a bit more diverse, but somehow it worked well for me.

Reading this certainly fills me with great sadness.

Pig latin sounds so annoying, add the fact that it's a language game so lame even the most cringey kids stop using it before the age of ten and you've got the perfect recipe for (yet another) UbiArt failure. :hap:

I don’t think many kids know pig Latin. I dint know it until I was 12, so it’s indeed separate from “gen alpha” slang

I only overanalyse when I feel like I need to make a point, which I presume is what you were doing. I’d agree with you if RRR was actually scary :oops2:

I think DumboTV made a good point there. It's an interesting premise, if a bit cliché. When I see goofy characters like rabbids or minions, I don't expect any thought put into atmosphere but from that description it sounds like some attempt was made in that direction.

I'm curious, would it be an unpopular opinion that the next Rayman game should be a spin-off starring pirate henchmen? I think they would be fun to play as

“Indie” rayman games don’t exist, considering Ubisoft is a AAA company :boon:

I honestly agree, I think humans in general don't belong in the world of Rayman because it's too surreal for them to be there. Too many limbs & not enough bizarre features.
