Rayman Origins

for me rayman origins was dissapointing for many reasons,of course i liked the designs of somethings(others look ugly and not made by michael) and a little of the gameplay but there are too many problems.
first of,the name of the game makes no sense,origins,Origins of what?,the game dont even have a story,it doesnt explain anything, rather then that i get a game full of goofiness and it didnt felt like a rayman game,other problem is the enemies,in every game of rayman you have a strategy to beat then,here you just punch then,and thats it,and whats with the game having so many godamn bubbles?they dont have anything to do with rayman,at all.
oh and the lums didnt fel rewarding,they felt annoying for the musics they sing,at the start is cool but later it gets annoying as hell,rayman and his friends looks stupid and he lost his importance.
so overall,without the spin-offs,this is the worst rayman game

I actually agree a lot with that post, Skaarj. Not all of it, but most of it.

I wonder if the zooming mechanic will be implemented here too.

I don't think RO is the "worst" in quadrilogy, for me it is still R3HH in last place, but with RO I would place it in 3rd.

As for ratings, I don't really know what much to say, since I liked the first three games equally. Origins I would like to say is also right there at the top for me, but unfortunately it drops one or two points under.

I have no doubt it will be implemented, considering the lacking resolution of the 3ds. Other than that, I think it would play the exact same.

Wow June. Well, I'm happy that they at least acknowledged the game. On the bright side, it won't have to compete with Kid Icarus now.

'The fuck, Sergio? Did you miss the entire point of my point of my post? I wasn't criticizing the quality of the artwork at all. Those pictures were merely a transcription of the magic I felt when I played each game. I still hold my point otherwise. From that comparison you've given, Origins may have brilliant detail, but in comparing the two, there's something about Origin's artwork that seems somewhat unsatisfying. I had mentioned this before, but no one took note. Look at Rayman 1's colours: they're lush, deep, dynamic, and really emphasize a certain mood. However in Origins' colours, they almost look somewhat desaturated and bland. Where are the vibrant hues of green and blue, and the contrasting leap of purple? Sure there's green, lots and lots and lots of green, but that's quite an uninteresting shade of green. The warmth and chills of the pallet in the first game aren't present. In fact, I think the colour pallet they chose in some scenes were both unappealing and downright disgusting, such as the end of "Aim for the Eal." One more point is that Origin's artwork looks far too realistic; it's easy to imagine them being real life scenarios, but Rayman 1, and even Rayman 2 and 3 had obscure, out-of-this-world backgrounds that held a certain level of mystery which I loved. Origins has --> almost <-- none of that. Besides, that picture you've shown isn't even from the game, and the final product didn't seem to have nearly as much detail.

I completely agree. With every single word. Except "Eal" in "Aim for the Eal". That should be "Eel".
I had started writing a huge reply to sergiomonty's post about how important colours are to the overall atmosphere, then expanding the subject to other factors like music, story, lighting, and more.
Then I had to leave to take a train, so I saved what I had and told myself I'd write the rest now.
Thanks for not making it necessary for me to write a book about atmosphere.

It's good to hear another digital artist agrees! I feel like much less of a lone standpoint.

Atmosphere has always been extremely important to me, and I think it's the most important thing in any work of artistry; it's what makes the work memorable, and it's the thing that makes you look back on the game, remembering it as a fantastic adventure, making you want to play through it over and over again. That's the way I felt with the first three Rayman games, especially the first. That's also what I'm trying to achieve with ROTD, which I think is somewhat visible in the stresstest, but not so much yet in my later gameplay videos (because I'm not at the quality enhancement stage, or anywhere near it yet).

Assassin's Creed is another masterful series of atmosphere, especially the second game. It's almost what I would consider perfect.

Origins could be short for original as in it's like the original Rayman games and not rabbids? Or even that being said the origin of Rayman before the rabbids? Either way the name shouldn't be one of it's downfalls it's just a name. Why for example would you call a game Skyrim? Or Portal? Or even Super Mario for that matter?

The game was about Rayman having to defeat the main boss, just because the storyline is as simple as that it doesn't mean it doesn't have one at all.

It wasn't "EVERYBODY DANCE" every 5 minutes so I don't see why it is nothing but goofiness as you have so implied there. I am aware of it's silliness throughout most of it but it did have serious elements that are over-shadowed by the goofiness.

And that isn't a strategy to beat them? Power-ups where only introduced in R3, in the other two you only had golden fists as another strategy which I do believe was implemented in RO.

You collect lums to get electoons so you can progress further in the game, why is that not rewarding? No comment on the music other than I find it more catchy than annoying but it does get annoying when you bump into so many.

I don't understand this sentence at all. His "importance"? What does that mean? Rayman and co are important characters in the game because they're only ones trying to get the bad guy.

I'm unsure about this, I found this game no worse nor better than it's prequels, with the exception of Rayman 2 which is among my top favourite games of all time.

Sorry RayFan, I didn't read before what you wrote but I am also with both you and Drolpiraat. I think that the jungle backgrounds got too much realistic too. I miss the colourful flora of the previous games.

Graphically Rayman Origins is awesome, quite realistic (talking about the backgrounds and whatnots, not the characters), but in comparison with the other games it gets a little TOO realistic, actually. The Jibberish Jungle feels like a jungle. As a video game, that's awesome; that's fine; that's perfect. But it's Rayman. A Rayman game should be expected to have a silly, yet mysterious and slightly eerie forest with lovely nature and color contrast (like purple plants, et cetera). The good thing about Origins' jungle design is that most of it has the purple plants, but they are WAY too bland and almost unnoticeable if you're just rushing. In Rayman 1 the colors were nicely mixed, contrasting yet looking very exciting. Rayman 2 had colorful woods, a bit less of the 'spark' of Rayman 1, but still very optimistic. Rayman 3 had a decent atmosphere too. Rayman Origins felt like... you're in the jungle and that's about it, while Rayman 1 made you interested in the level, wanting to check every section of it.

I think the game focused too much in Earth landscapes rather than the Glade of Dreams' original flora we know since 1995. A real pity this have got lost in RO, with such promising tools to draw. Not to mention the music hasn't a great feel of "Rayman" and enough variation.

Indeed. I don't have a problem with Earthish landscapes ruling the game like they did in Rayman 2 and 3, but Origin's Earthish landscapes, and even its fantastic landscapes didn't have too much significance about them, other than a spot maybe here or there.

Agree with RayFan,atmosphere is the most important thing.I always take a lot of care about music,and the design of characters and environments,while for example my mum only plays and focuses in what she has to do,doesn't pay attention to the game atmosphere...never understood that.

I think most of the landscape has some sort of more modern variant of that 'Rayman magic feeling'. But, I can see your point, yes.

And the music just plain sucked most of the time, to be honest.

Games get pushed back all the time. Does anyone here know SPORE? That got pushed back... what, a year and a half?

I really liked the music in Origins. It fits my preference entirely. However, I have never tried to fit the tracks into the 'Rayman' zone of music. Indeed, they're not very Rayman, but I like them for what they are. Especially the track in the Land of the Livid Dead, the riding the snake one, is one I really enjoyed, because that's precisely the type of chord progression I enjoy using or enjoy hearing in another person's music.

And as we're on the subject of RO music that's extremely like my own, one track that stood out for me was one of the bonus tracks on the CD... because it was. ex-act-ly the same as one of the pieces of music I made for my own Rayman game back in August 2011. How could I possibly have picked that track up in August, if it only ever appeared on the CD? So if I didn't copy that song, how did they both turn out so similar? What odds are those, that I not only create a song that's also been made by someone else, but that that other song had to be, of all things, one from a Rayman! game. What is that all about? It's almost like inspiration follows the rules of quantum physics: sometimes it's here, sometimes it's there, sometimes it's nowhere at all... ... and sometimes it's in two places at the same time.
