Rayman M-Arena

Why do people keep posting in different languages on threads in the English forums? Just wondering, 'cause I've been seeing it a lot. :boon:

Back on subject... maybe they put in Tily because Ly towers over the other characters. Look at her size compared to Rayman; most of the playable characters are around Rayman's size, if a bit taller, and adding someone as tall as Ly might change the gameplay. They didn't want to leave out Ly altogether, so they made a similar shorter character with name derived from Tily to compensate.

That's my take on it anyways. Not that it makes it any less annoying that Ly isn't in it and that a one-time-appearance character like Tily is.

The Gamecube and Xbox versions of the game also have 'Dark Globox'... why anyone would want to play as him(unless they were trying to annoy other players), I can't imagine. I hate the background music for when he's in the lead; it's weird and unattractive to my ears and barely sounds like music at all. Then again, Razorwife's music has a habit of irritating me as well... then again, I'm not really an opera buff, so there could easily be others playing the game that might like it.

I oftentimes have a hard time picking which character to play as... Rayman, Teensies, Razorbeard, Henchman/Hunchman 800, *maybe* Tily if I'm feeling the need to be someone especially girly, and on occasion I might pick Globox; he's such a funny character(especially with his inflating-and-flapping-arms-wildly hovering trick) that it's hard to resist sometimes. Usually the choice boils down between Rayman or the Teensies though, and oftentimes Rayman wins that choice. It also really depends on which character's music I like the most... =P

ly made a tiny bit of a cameo appearance in a battling stage :shock:

Just like in rayman 3 it was a useless statue... so a short version of ly... huh? I thought it was her younger sister when I was little and first played rush

Oh yeah, there was that stage called 'Ly's Palace' with a statue of Ly, wasn't there? But the fact remains, she isn't a playable character. Though you're right about the 'shorter version of Ly' thing not making sense, I messed up on wording that. More of a... shorter replacement, since trying to add in a taller character that would have different jump heights, run speed, etc. because of bigger size would severely unbalance the gameplay, and setting those values to those of the shorter characters would look awkward.

I really have no idea who Tily is, so she could very well be Ly's sister or something, like you said. Fact is, from what I've seen no one really is sure who Tily is other than that she's a character only seen in Rayman Rush/M/Arena... so who knows? :wink:
 
at my last post i said that i thought that ninjaw was supose to be in the game,because it has a image of him in somethings of the game

Ly? She wouldn't unbalance game play that much. The battles are already very unbalanced (random items, Mario Kart style), and I don't think her extra height would make hitting her extremely easy. If you're going along that train of thought, Tily/Teensies are the best characters in the game.

Of note is that one of Tily's alternate colours looks exactly like a smaller (but a bit fatter) version of Ly, sans tail. Would the game be broken if you made that taller?
 
i usuallly just use rayman henchman and globox in that game not to mention dark rayman is in the game but as a skin

Thats too bad they don't have dark rayman in the pc version.

With Ly, I was really referring to the way her model would work. With her physique and height as it is, she should be able to jump higher than the other characters, and if it was lowered to what the other characters' jumps were, it wouldn't look right. The same goes for running speed. You also brought up the point of being a bigger target, which I hadn't really even thought of, but from what I've seen all of the characters have a certain area on their model that must be hit to inflict damage; as in, Globox would have just as much chance of getting hit as the Teensies. Perhaps untrue, but I really have no idea. I haven't noticed any issues with it personally, but then I haven't really been paying attention.

What I meant with unbalance is what I mentioned above, with the size-to-speed/jump height-ratio issue. Sure it could be done, other games do, but it doesn't really look that great because it would look awkward for them to have such a low jump or run so slowly to match up with the other characters. Plus, the size also can contribute to other issues; they'd have to change the camera zoom and angle so that Ly's upper body or head wouldn't be blocking enough of the screen that the player wouldn't be able to see as much of the screen as other players do.

I'd also like to note here that I don't really believe one or the other, and I really can't account for what the design team had in mind when they omitted Ly and put in Tily instead. I'm just trying to think of *possible* reasons that they might have done so from a logical standpoint, instead of blindly complaining about something like so many people tend to do when they don't like something about a game/media. I like to try and think of both sides before I launch out an opinion. I mean, geez... I saw a YouTube comment once flaming Rabbids saying that they wanted the Rabbids' creator to get killed so that the Rayman series could return to the way it was before they came. The Critical Research Failure displayed is so glaring that it makes me want to smack some sense into the user that made the comment. Helloooo, Michel Ancel made the Rabbids. He was also the guy that created Rayman and was responsible for Rayman and Rayman 2, the game you were probably wanting the series to 'be like again.' He was NOT the one to decide that the Rabbids should take the spotlight over Rayman. When he was working on the game, they were only a zombie-rabbit army of some type and Rayman was obviously still the main character. Wanting him to die would also result in the series' awesomeness of the first two games never coming back. Argh. Honestly... at least know what you're complaining about before you spit it out.

Um, yeah. Things like that just get on my nerves, so I guess I feel the need to point out any logic or reasoning that might fit into the equation to try and balance it out. Even if I agree that I don't like something, I try to understand and see if there are reasons why it ended up that way... I would have liked Ly to be in Rayman M/Rush/Arena, because she is an important character and I don't think she deserved to be replaced by Tily. But instead of just complaining about something that won't change, I try and look at possibilities and reasons it might not work and move on.

Sorry for the rant folks, it just kind of happened. All in all, yeah it would've been nice for Ly to be in Rayman Arena. But given the way the gameplay is designed so that each character is supposed to be equal in both speed, power, and ability, I'm not sure it'd make sense for a character like Ly - who is so different in size that it would require readjusting the whole system just to implement one character - to be in it.

That's just my reasoning on it though. Feel free to debate.
 
She was scrapped during development, surely due to animation problems and scalling her size.
 
Dark Globox is exclusive to GC Rayman Arena. Too bad that on my emulator, only 50% of the game works, I would love to get it to work 100%.

Yous said that only the GC version had Dark Globox, but then said that the Xbox version and GC version are the same.
 
Sorry for confusing, I forgot before to name the Xbox before, but yes: both are the same.
