They are the levels which you play as murfy instead of rayman in the Wii u version of rayman legends, and they return as bonus levels in the PS Vita and Switch versions

This discussion has convinced me to get a used Switch version of Legends to see what the fuss is about, I hope this is everything everyone saying it is.

The impression I'm getting is that the Murfy levels are bad...so I'm doing this out of some misguided sense of curious masochism.

Rayman Universe did a really interesting Twitter thread which includes concepts for costumes in Rayman Adventures and some Rayman Legends development info: https://x.com/RUniverseVK/status/1849388132476813708

Apparently the studio wanted to make a 3D game after Origins, but due to low sale numbers they were only allowed to make another 2D game. The 3D CGI trailer we got for Legends was then apparently intended to internally demonstrate the vision of the franchise's return to 3D. Also after Legends released it would seem there were plans to make a new TV series (?!) which is not related to the Moldies one.

Sounds like more work for Droolie's fan DLC now. :P

Now that's interesting! Not complaining that it didn't happen though, I sure look forward to the next Rayman in 3D but not something entirely based on real-world themes and with human characters. :)

Brace for your expectations to be fully met. It's probably my least favorite gameplay feature in a Rayman game. It's just so boring, whenever I have to play a Murfy level all I want is to get it over with quickly so I can move on to the next level. The poor Murfy really can't win, can he? At least I, for one, liked him in R3

I don’t mind the levels where murfy simply helps you out, but I prefer pure platforming

Truth be told I've been intentionally putting off the Murfy's Touch World cause of all the bad press you're giving him...126 teensies to get though...that's a fair amount of levels I imagine xD.

The things I do for the "definitive experience" 😝

I don’t think anyone actually takes the “definitive” in its name seriously (apart from hardcore Nintendo fanboys)

I also prefer pure platforming but if they hadn't added Murfy there would have been even more complaints that Legends is just a copy and paste of Origns

Legends is a direct sequel to Origins, it was always going to have some likeness to Origins, That's not a valid critique, that's like saying Sonic 2 is a copy-paste of Sonic 1, they share the same fundamentals. Murfy or no, of course it's going to be a similar game, and even as someone who errs classic I'd find that argument pretty silly. I suppose you could argue that it's more of the same...but that's not inherently a copy-paste, you're still getting new levels and gameplay concepts...

If it's in relation to Back to Origins, I can't cite a source on this from the top of my head so I'm going to have to look into this, but if memory serves it got added to Legends after they delayed - when it went from being a Wii U exclusive to a multiplat title. I'd be inclined to think it was more of a consolation addition than anything else if my memory is right on this.

In a sense I understand them, the first 3 games are very different but they all came out "at the same time" it's less frustrating than discovering Origins after years of Rabbids especially since they were all crying for a Rayman 4, I wouldn't call it nostalgia but discovering the games as a child greatly changes the opinion, also thé fact that the Ubiart games are the last ones released, if they would have continued the trilogy after Legends they would have just moved on to something else, a bit like Crash of the Titans/Twinsanity

This is correct, or at least this is what was written in L'histoire de Rayman :hap:

Thanks Plum! I now need to see if we've mentioned this in the Wiki and if not make a note so when I inevitably forget again I'm not perusing old articles and threads 😅

And now to my new post:

Ok so I've now beaten the main Legends portion of the game (as in all I've got left to do now is Back to Origins). So I can render my personal verdict on the Murfy's Touch levels...and it is as follows:

They're alright.

Honestly, I dunno if it's because I went in with low expectations given the discussion here, but the levels in general were fairly harmless. I didn't find myself all too frustrated by them, barring segments in The Great Lava Pursuit where I had to use the shield to block lava geysers while the AI had to navigate through...it killed itself a fair few times, but it wasn't too frustrating and I figured out fairly quickly how to get it by without too much fuss. The other issue I had was with some Teensie cage sections, but again, nothing too frustrating and I got by fairly quickly again. The AI in general was actually fairly smart, there were a few issues with jank but once again, nothing really frustrating. I think the levels weren't any better for being exclusively Murfy, I much prefer the traditional version of them where Murfy was controlled via context-button, but they were still engaging and mostly fun even with touch.

----

Do you know what I still dislike though? Living Dead Party. From the day I first played those levels back in 2013, to now, I still find that world really disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised if I've had a tirade on them before in this thread somewhere in the past, but seeing as it's fresh in my mind let's do it again. On the whole, they didn't give me much trouble, and I do like the music levels in their usual form, I like playing to the beat and they're very nice send-offs to each of the worlds before you move onto the next. But as a final gauntlet and reward for getting the Teensies in the other levels? They're disappointing.

I understand why the 8-bit levels have the visual effects, they're intended to make it visually harder to see the level so you have to be more in tune with the music, they're emphasising the rhythmic aspect of the levels. And that's fine, I enjoy trying to stay in the beat. But I do not appreciate the visual assualt to my sense, I'd have much rather they used something like a dimmed screen or some sort of visual blocker rather than the weird visual effects that feel uncomfortable. When I first played through these levels 8-bit Orchestral Chaos gave me a headache because of the static flashing effect it'd do on every beat, and while I beat that level 3rd try on this run and thus wasn't subject to the same barrage on the senses, it still left me rather uncomfortable. It's not fun. And once again that's my problem here, they're conceptually interesting and I like the challenge but the visual effects just make the levels disorienting to play and it sours me that this is how Legends is sending itself off.

Moreso cause Origins rewarded you with The Land of the Livid Dead. A level that was definitely designed to be a challenge and probably a bit overkill, but it felt like a genuine final gauntlet, and most importantly...it was a unique level that wasn't trying to flashbang you. Seriously, that level might be a tad more frustrating, but at least I know I messed up cause I fumbled rather than from eyestrain.

TL;DR: Living Dead Party sucked when I played it in my first run in 2013, still does now. LOTLD in Origins did it better, and doesn't try to give me a headache in the process.

I was wondering, what are exactly the Dark Teensies?
- Are they new nightmares that took the form of the RO Magician?
- Did Ales divided into 5?
- Is the original Ales among the five and the others are clones?

I don't know if there is any official text that provides any further info about this. Just wanted to know because I don't know how to refer to these guys in the translations.
