... when you don't get the instruction booklet with any of the five copies of Rayman 2 you have, (because of everyone giving it to you for your birthday for some obscure and conspiratory reason) and have thus never seen it before, even though it seems it gives away a lot of background story to the game, according to the RayWiki.

Yes and no. I got two R2 PC manuals, of which one is a PDF and indeed has some backstory, and another one was from a cheap edition sold in Makro Cash & Carry (probably so it could be used as cheap yet fancy prize in some contest) not containing much story stuff nor credits.
