Well, you sure delivered because it was one hell of a finale! It was incredible! You really went all out in that level design and in these custom visuals! I liked how immersive and ambitious that first part felt like and I also love the whole "inside the computer" idea which felt like something out of the SNES prototype. :)
However, while I get it was the final level of the series, the difficulty after the first part just was unbelievable... like, I’m not someone who easily have troubles in a Rayman 1 related game, but it was just insane! It was pretty fine for some parts, but it became frustrating by the end. So many instakill things and the number of minions to beat in one of the trials got ridiculous sometimes. It’s one of the rare times where I actually had to use the infinite lives... I was about to rage quit in the final part... :confus:
While the presentation was great (loved that little Joe monitor) and the story was pretty fun and creative once again, there were quite a few dialog mistakes like "your" being spelled "you’re" in one of Mr Dark’s dialogs or one of his lines having the same colours as Joe’s texts. Also some things in the ending were a bit too... "fanfic-ish" if that can even be a word...? Just some nitpicks though. :noel:

But overall, one of your greatest creations yet. Extremely impressive.

Welp, I’ve decided to release yet another update for Spellbound Forest ReDesigned! Should truly be the last unless people find problems I haven’t noticed or if I can really get more info about Ubi Cliff and the other versions of the original GBC game. The goal of this new update is to bring improvements to the World Maps:
-Made it so you can return to the World Map when completing a level you’ve started from there (by placing another spawn point + gendoor/killdoor in a spot you can’t reach through normal means in each necessary level, so don’t be surprised if you fall from the sky when you start). That way, you can truly return to previous levels to get cages you could have missed without having to go through the hassle of playing the whole world again or most of it. These pointless ceilings of solid blocks in the original game finally found their purpose. :hap:
-Replaced the exit text in the World Map with a fairy, also added fairies above the Spellbound Forest’s portals and replaced the Time Attack’s original portal with a Magician hat.
-Fixed the GBC Time Attack having the World Map music instead of the Ubi Cliff theme it had in the original.
-Fixed the incorrect Magician portals in Time Attack and added fairies above the ones related to the world you’re playing. The unrelated portals will now bring you directly to the equivalent bonus levels without making you see the bonus starting screen.

You shouldn’t have to download the whole bundle again to get the improvements since the custom files weren’t changed in any way, so here are the level files so you can save yourself the unnecessary trouble of downloading 85 MB again f you already had the previous version (however, you’ll still have to download the bundle on Redistributor if you only had versions below 1.3):
Spellbound Forest ReDesigned V1.4.zip
(49.52 KiB) Downloaded 151 times

All these changes will be used in the next worlds as well (the fairies above the Spellbound Forest portals will be moved to the ones of the corresponding world, and the same goes for the fairies in the Time Attack World Map).
The Time Attack Map is a complete mess and so I guessed most levels wrong when I first made it. After testing each sign in the original GBC game, I quickly made a map in order to remind myself of what everything corresponds to.
Time Attack Levels.png
I mean, just look at this and the order of worlds from Rayman GBC and try to explain to me how each position makes sense. :paranormal:
This also reminds me that I forgot to mention that this project (and this picture) kept the mistake of having the Spellbound Forest’s bonus levels having the wrong numbers ("Bonus 1" is referred as "Bonus 2" and "Bonus 2" is referred as "Bonus 1"... at least, this is how it appears on Ray1Map), but you’ll still play the bonus levels in the same "wrong order" like in the original game.

It was a pain to make the World Map levels improvement at first and I thought it would end up not working because the trick I tried to do didn’t work for some stupid reason (by abusing the Rayman teleport "glitch" which occurs when he’s placed inside tiles, you can trigger unreachable gendoors/killdoors... but weirdly enough, only the killdoors worked this way and the gendoors were never triggered, so you would end up with no exit sign at all). This is why I’ve done something in the air instead. It’s a shame that it messes up the spawn point, but that’s the only functioning trick I could pull off to allow you to return to the World Map.
Sadly, while I attempted many things, I definitely concluded it was impossible to make you able to return to the World Map from bonus levels (as you can’t both gendoor and killdoor items, I cannot remove or replace the original portals and Coloured Tings for the "Time Attack variation"). The only real way to implement it would be to have duplicate sections, but that wouldn’t be possible with ReDesigner’s ten sections limitation unless I remove some levels.

GBC Airy Tunes is almost done (only Level 4 needs to be finished, then I’ll move on to more testing and to making the PPC and PalmOS versions). Here are more pictures (with one showing an example of the World Map’s new system):
Capture d’écran (13210).png
Capture d’écran (13211).png
Capture d’écran (13214).png
Yes, I’ve merged many Bad Notes into one in order to somewhat simulate the invincibility of their GBC counterparts (this also gives it a bigger size most of the time which contributes to making it a bit closer in gameplay to their jumping counterparts).
Also, Happy Valentine’s Day I guess, because there’s nothing more romantic than some old pixels from a Game Boy game. :hap:

This graphic pack is making me hungry. :noel:

I have good news and bad news regarding Rayman GBC ReDesigned! The bad news is that Airy Tunes will not release before next month... The GBC level is finished but still needs some testing before I move on to the other versions, and considering the mood the recent events gave me and all the work I have to do already, this has to wait for a little while...
The good news is that I finally figured out a way to enhance the graphics and how to resize them for ReDesigner without ruining the quality! Here’s a comparison!
Capture d’écran (13866).png
(new version with oil painting)

Capture d’écran (13867).png
(old version with oil painting)

Capture d’écran (13868).png
(original graphics after better resize)

Capture d’écran (13869).png
(original graphics after old resize)

Quite the difference, isn’t it?
How did I do that? Turns out I didn’t realise the previous app I’ve used to resize the graphics automatically used a shitty filter which makes everything ugly and inaccurate, and so did the mediocre resizers I’ve found online... Resizing with Gimp using no filter gives a near-perfect result. The files are also much lighter, so I can provide the unchanged resized graphics as an extra without making the download much heavier (and the modified graphics are also much lighter so the download size should be about the same as before), so you’ll have access to the original visuals if you don’t like the oil painting changes I’ve made!
That’ll be very good for Airy Tunes because the oil painting "enhancement" didn’t work well at all with it before unlike the results achieved for the Spellbound Forest, but now it looks beautiful!
Capture d’écran (13870).png

Welp, guess I have to work on another update now. :hap:
This level got the Terraria treatment: it gets a final update after the final update, which itself came after the final update after the final update. :fou:

The graphic update for Spellbound Forest ReDesigned has been released! Not only are the graphics better and the unaltered graphics from the original games provided as well, but the download ended up about 30 Mo lighter than before! ^^
If you want to use the original graphics, simply replace those in the "Rayman GBC ReDesigned" subdirectory with the files from the "Original graphics" folder found in the very same subdirectory. Redistributor code: RAY-UN3U-S4.
As a bonus, I’ve also released a graphic pack which contains the graphics from the previous versions as well as the GBC visuals of Airy Tunes before I improved them! Redistributor code: RAY-A4LE-27.
EDIT: Added old skins, more extra graphics and the old version of Spellbound Forest with the inaccurate version of Ubi Cliff.

I also made a great discovery on Rayman Redistributor! Someone has made what appears to be a full-on recreation of The Dark Magician’s Reign of Terror in ReDesigner and it’s very impressive!
From what I’ve seen so far, it’s a near-flawless remake of this game! Sadly, there’s been no attempt at recreating the bosses or the story and some liberties were taken, but I can’t begin to imagine how much work has gone into this! There are even extra improvements in the visuals like some better frozen sprites in the Freezy Freezer’s environment so it can visually match ReDesigner’s sprites (some visual gags have been added too...)!
I also love how well it works with ReDesigner’s gameplay as some levels like the final one feels way more fun and dynamic than before while being way easier!
You really have to try it! https://raydistributor.com/content/RAY-XT2G-7A

Sorry for the wait! Airy Tunes ReDesigned is finally here!

Image

Download: https://raydistributor.com/content/RAY-X1UI-9J

Everything is just as Spellbound Forest ReDesigned! All levels and bonuses have been recreated and you gain access to the World Maps at the end, all four versions of the game are available to play, you have access to both the "enhanced" and original graphics, GBC/PPC music are used in each version, and so on...
You can finally use the Hand Horn added in the Anniversary Update as it was "intended". :noel:

The level design between each version isn’t that different once again, there are only a few subtle changes in the Pocket PC and the two PalmOS versions (and the GBC and Greyscale versions are still the worst), so playing the PPC or PalmOS Color level is once again the optimal experience (especially since Airy Tunes is way more colourful in these and the PalmOS Color level actually looks very good this time around).
Strangely enough, the Greyscale version has now chosen to be closer to the PPC and PalmOS Color game than the original one on GBC... and there is way fewer mistakes in it than in the Spellbound Forest! It’s a miracle! :hap:

Skins still aren’t complete, but have been improved. I’ve also added a new one which gives Dark/Bad Rayman’s colours to Rayman! But only his colours, though... his unique eyes will come later. ^^
As a reminder, even if they’re very different now, these skins are based on the one made by ShinyRaichu94 and so I don’t take credit for their creation.
GBC, Dark and Greyscale Skins (Early versions).zip
(71.42 KiB) Downloaded 147 times

Here also the lite files with no custom music. You’ll have to resize the graphics by yourself (make them exactly twice as big).
GBC - Airy Tunes.zip
(869.45 KiB) Downloaded 132 times
PPC - Airy Tunes.zip
(2.05 MiB) Downloaded 132 times
PalmOS Color - Airy Tunes.zip
(1.23 MiB) Downloaded 128 times
PalmOS Greyscale - Airy Tunes.zip
(757.15 KiB) Downloaded 141 times

Once again, feel free to tell me if there’s anything wrong so I can update the level! Although I’ve mastered "the recreation process" for this game and so Airy Tunes should need way fewer updates than its predecessor... maybe even none if it’s perfect!

And yeah, I ended up finishing it before Rock’n’Run’s remaster, but I’ve been running into too many misfortunes since last month to really work on it so it’ll come out by next month at best. As for Rainy Forest, I don’t know, but as it’s pretty short, you’ll either get it by the end of this month or early April. :mryellow:

Airy tunes was really fun, though I fell off more times than I'd like to admit.
Rainy Forest should be pretty easy to put together since it's mostly water and floating platforms. Actually what's up with this game having so many forests? It's got like...4.

Personally, it’s the spiky notes that got me! :oops2:
And yeah, I was intending to comment about that eventually: it’s very curious how this game chose to have this whole recurring "forest pattern" going on between each world inspired from the original Rayman, and all of them have an inconsistent number of levels (Spellbound Forest got it right but has Ubi Cliff and the first section barely counts as a level, Rainy Forest only has three levels and a bonus one, Ancient Forest has three levels but has also two bonus ones and Arcane Forest has the usual amount but also has the Mr Dark boss battle). And then at the end, there’s also Dark Legacy which is very similar to Arcane Forest and which has four levels and no bonuses… It was probably easier than to make assets for adaptations of Picture City and Candy Château, so they most likely did this to save up work and time. What makes it even more obvious is how similar Rocky Peaks and Fiery Depths look like when the Blue Mountains and the Caves of Skops were way more different in the original Rayman.
It may also be the result of the inspiration it took from Rayman 2 as most of these forests have similar themes to this game (Spellbound Forest feels like a mix of the Dream Forest and The Woods of Light, Rainy Forest is like the swamp and Ly levels [especially The Walk of Power], Ancient Forest is reminiscent of the menhirs and sanctuaries with its "ruins", and Arcane Forest has a very dark atmosphere like some parts of Rayman 2).
If I really get to a "Rayman GBC Redemption" after that, I’ll "fix" the inconsistent number of levels and cages in these forests… which would also be the opportunity to introduce some missing things in Rayman GBC (like Bzzit who would fit perfectly in Rainy Forest), some secret areas with visuals and objects from Rayman 1 + Ryemanni’s fangames, and more…

Yeah, I'd have guessed that the predominance of forests is related to the influence of Rayman 2.

Well, good luck with that full "Redemption", if you ever get to it!

PluMGMK wrote: Thu Mar 17, 2022 5:56 pm Well, good luck with that full "Redemption", if you ever get to it!
Thanks! However, if I do make it, I’ll have to come up with another name because calling it "Redemption" would not only be confusing but also be very pretentious, as it’ll still be a ReDesigner project (and so, not a whole fangame like Ryemanni’s work and it would obviously be far from being as ambitious)... and of course, Rayman GBC is such a perfect game that it needs no redemption. :hap:
It would be more a big "remix" than anything with some extra levels, additions to the level design, introduction of objects available in ReDesigner, some new twists in the story, fixes and improvements... Some of those things are quite required for some areas... like all that strange useless space at the top of Airy Tunes’ second bonus! :paranormal:
GBC Airy Tunes Bonus 2 (top half).png
It’s like it’s asking me to do something with it! :fou2:
I’ve already attempted something with the first level of Spellbound Forest and the results are very good and set a way more powerful atmosphere more fitting for the story, as well as a deeper sense of progress! I’ll probably release an unlisted video of it to show you later on so you can all tell me what you think about it.

So I need to come up with something similar but also different enough for the name... "Rayman GBC Resurrection"? "Rayman 2000 ReColored"? "Rayman GBC Returns"?... And if I also "remake" Rayman 2 Forever, perhaps "Rayman 2 Forever Returns"?... I dunno... Oh, wait! I know!... "Rayman GBC REReDesigned"! :fou:
Nah, I really need some ideas here. :hap:

Here’s the usual preview for what’s coming next!
Capture d’écran (14310).png
Capture d’écran (14311).png
Capture d’écran (14314).png
Speaking of making extra levels (and so making heavy edits to the graphics), I have to come up with something for Rainy Forest as it turns out that the third level is not large enough to fit ReDesigner, and so you’ll see the game’s background bordering the graphics... Goddamn you Ryemanni for that 480 minimal width limit. :hap:
At least the level works as intended so far. The only real issues I have noticed during testing are the weird climbing limits... and this is also when ReDesigner becomes limited as the foreground objects from the original level are just a flat part of the environment now, so you’ll jump "through" some plants sometimes. It was also an issue in a few parts of Spellbound Forest and Airy Tunes, but it wasn’t noticeable...
Capture d’écran (14312).png

I must also report that it has come to my attention (thanks to RaymanRedemption who told me my GBC ReDesigned graphics were used in one of their levels) that someone on Rayman Redistributor has been "stealing" content from others. I don’t want to name them (unless other concerned people want to know) as I highly suspect (due to some factors) that they are a very young kid who doesn’t really know what they’re doing, but I want to bring this up as an example of what you should avoid doing as a ReDesigner creator... and I’ll also leave a bad Redistributor rating anyway since I’m a sneaky rat. :3
One of their levels not only contains a complete unmodified copy paste of my ColorFun and DarkLight skin packs (even including the levels and the read.me files), but also the Spellbound Forest ReDesigned graphics and music, graphics and music from RaveyDavey1993’s levels, the original GBC skin made by ShinyRaichu94 (which was moved inside my DarkLight pack for some strange reason) a folder containing apparently all the sprites shared by raymandesigner here, and many other things which were taken from else where (including a GBA Rayman skin and some custom graphics I think I’ve already seen in some levels I’ve played...). None of the files have even been renamed, and no one has been credited (besides the few credits I had added myself in the read.me files)! The vast majority of these hundreds of assets (over 730! ) are not even used in the level (hell, of all things, they used the Greyscale graphics when they had all the other versions in the same folder :hap:), which itself is totally unfinished! It’s like they took everything as a tool box, and then still published the draft with all the crayons with it as if it was their own... Uh, that stupid comparison sounded better in my head...
Of course, pretty much nothing we make in Rayman ReDesigner is our intellectual property or anything and many of us use/recreate a lot of official and even sometimes fanmade stuff without consent as well, but at least you can easily have the respect to credit creators for their work like most of us do. I personally don’t really care for GBC ReDesigned as I can’t really consider it my work (as it’s pretty much a slow and weird form of "copy-pasting" an official game with extra steps, in a way :noel:), but I find it unfair for everyone else involved and for the skin/levels packs. I don’t think the author has even asked any authorisation... at least I wasn’t asked anything. I would have gladly approved as long as I would have been properly credited.
So, if you care, and even if it’s not a perfect measure, I advise you to at least add a read.me file crediting yourself in all your creations, especially if they don’t contain a level which carries your name in the file’s name and the game’s intro text. Adding your name to the custom files like backgrounds and music is also a good idea, especially if they are original creations. Even if you didn’t put much effort into a particular project or if it’s "just" a remake, I personally believe your efforts should at least deserve to be remembered.

While I’m at it, I’d like to add that anyone is free to make a remix of any of my GBC ReDesigned levels or to use them as a basis for making your own remakes if you wish. One of the goals of this project is also to have a solid GBC recreation in ReDesigner so anyone can use it to make contents related to the same game and its ports. If you can even do better than me, I’d be happy to see it. Credit and asking authorisation is not required (at the condition that you don't credit yourself as the creator if you don't change or barely change anything, especially the original way I introduced some features), but very appreciated. If you credit me, simply mention me as "Mortamon Saturn", "Mortamon" or "MortaDolly".
As for the ColorFun and DarkLight packs, you can perfectly get away with only crediting me (and no, copy-pasting my read.me file doesn’t count :P), but it’s always better to ask first. For my other contents, always credit and ask for authorisation first. I’m always here, on YouTube (as "Mortamon Y." and "MortaDolly"), Twitter, Facebook, and more, so you can easily find me by simply typing "Mortamon". Don’t be shy... as I’m a more awkward timid person than you no matter what, anyway. :noel:
Also it’s better to make sure to properly credit custom content like music or graphics you may take and how they were made to begin with (like the GBC graphics acquired from Ray1Map, and which are obviously Ubisoft’s work). Basically... credit everyone and everything. It’s a better behaviour.

Someone else on Redistributor also made a level named "The Dark Magician’s Revenge" apparently after I revealed the one I’m working on since last year, but that one is just a coincidence as it’s completely different content besides the similar idea and identical name, and it’s not as if my idea was really creative to begin with. Heh, I’ll just rename my own later on. :mryellow:

Rainy Forest is complete! Well... almost, as I still have to finish a few versions and then to test everything again!
In the meanwhile, I’ve released yet another update for Airy Tunes and Spellbound Forest, mostly improving the World Map once again! Here are the changes:

Both levels:
-Changed the inconsistent names between versions by renaming the GBC file "Game Boy Color" and fixed the incorrect spelling of the Palm OS versions which missed the space (the original name without a space will be kept as an abbreviation for everything else... I could also use the "POS" abbreviation, but for obvious reasons, I shouldn’t use this one... even if it’s pretty fitting for the Greyscale version :hap: ). Don’t know why I kept spelling it "PalmOS" until now...
-Lowered the volume of the Pocket PC tracks so they’re about as loud as the GBC tracks. Your ears will bleed a bit less now. :hap:
-Improved the placement of a few objects.
-Made new higher-quality versions of the GBC/Greyscale bonus pictures. The Time Attack picture really needed it! :oops2:
-Every world uses a new spawn point and new Exit Sign placement on the World Map from now on. That way, you’ll appear closer to the Portals related to the world you’re playing and it’ll still be quick to leave the level! This should avoid some confusion I’ve noticed in playthroughs.
-Created a unique spawn point for every alternative exit sign (when you use the World Map to return to a previous map). Now, you’ll appear next to the Portal you chose, which is closer to how the original game worked! The Time Attack map’s Portal will bring you to the original World Map’s spawn point.
-Added some extra details and changed a few things in the read.me file of both levels and fixed a typo in the file of Spellbound Forest ("Ray1Map" spelled as "Ray1Man" :fou: ). I swear I’m not making this update as an excuse to fix that "tiny" mistake. :hap:

Spellbound Forest:
-Like Airy Tunes, Spellbound Forest now uses sticky tiles for the ones used by the "floating" Cages, both as a way to prevent you from using them to "cheat" and to indicate that the cages have been glued in place. :noel: Unnecessary tiles added below these Cages have also been removed, so they have fewer chances to impede your movements (especially in Section 3 with the rising water).*

*Did you know? You can hang a Cage in the air in Rayman ReDesigner by putting a collision you can walk on below any of its edges! Note that only an edge or both edges work, as putting any tile below the middle of the Cage will make it fall.

Airy Tunes:
-Created unique new descriptions for Airy Tunes. The GBC and Greyscale versions use a text inspired by Betilla’s dialogs in Band Land while the two other versions use a text based on the dialogs of the Monk from Rayman Redemption. These dialogs have been altered to hint at the Helicopter power and sound like something that would be said by the Tings from Rayman GBC.
Rainy Forest will use Airy Tunes’ original descriptions instead as it’s way more fitting (since it was the outro for Airy Tunes, and Rainy Forest is the first to give a lot of importance to the Helicopter) and as this world had no texts at all in the original game.

Of course, all the global improvements will carry over to Rainy Forest and the next worlds!
As for the size problem of Rainy Forest’s third section, I came up with a trick!... GIANT BEANSTALKS! :noel:

I could have just added black borders (which honestly would have been fitting considering how the game looks on 3DS and considering the design of the Game Boy), but I thought that would have been way too easy and I wanted to do something similar to the "boss borders" Ryemanni made for the 16:9 resolution in Rayman Redemption... Instead, I’ll make an alternative black borders version for the full release of GBC ReDesigned.

There are also a few other things I had to change from the original, like a moving platform in Section 2 which keeps moving in a square pattern, which isn’t possible to do in Rayman ReDesigner as the game uses generic reactionary tiles instead of arrow tiles. So I’ve added more platforms and made it so they can easily move you in that square pattern to at least somewhat simulate the original part. In the full Mediafire release, I’ll probably replace them with a UFO platform as you can control their movements way more accurately.
In general, the full version will be a good excuse to make more drastic changes like using the Checkpoints (which I didn’t use because of their size and appearance), or merging Gold Fists with a Speed Fist as the original GBC Gold Fist had the particularity of increasing the speed and maximum basic range of Rayman’s fist, just like a Speed Fist power-up did in the original Rayman.

The skins probably won’t have the time to be changed this time around, but there’ll be a "new" one! Blue/Japanese Rayman will now embrace the GBC look!
Also, while it doesn’t have a use yet and needs some improvements, we have a title screen now!

Whoops, I only realise now I somehow missed this post! This is what happens when I miss the notification because I’ve been too slow to complete a message and someone said something new before I hit "send"! :oops2:
Looking great! Can’t wait to try out your stuff! :)
Now my comment about a pack making me feel hungry (raymandesigner’s graphic pack with cake world stuff) sounds weird without the proper context. ^^'
