I'm pretty sure we had a thread for this somewhere, I'll see if I can find it for ya.

Re: Rayman himself
My favourite style is definitely Rayman 2's. It fixed estetical issues that the first design had for better. The personality has got a good balance of a serious and inteligent character with its moments of (inteligent) humour.

Re: Rayman himself
Origins showed that Moskito levels could wear thin after a while. Still, it would have been nice to have more transition levels (like the PC version's Bongo Hills stage) in the original game. An Electoon bridge similar to the ones in Origins would have been a great, sensible way to reach the final level after smashing all the cages.Rayfist wrote:[It was great too, I loved the Bzzit sequence. The Jaguar version not so much... they tried to make it like a sideways Galaga Space shooter and well, didn't work so great in my opinion. I do wish there actually could've been more Bzzit flying sequences, know what would be cool? A transition from Cave to Skops to Candy Chateau using Bzzit, I would've loved to see that.
It was even recreated for the cover of that Pix'n Love issue a few years back.Haruka wrote:There is a general agreement between all R1 veteran players that one of the most memorable moments is the Anguish Lagoon sequence. I even drew something 1 or 2 months ago that replicates that moment.
Re: Rayman himself
Yes, that too. Interestingly enough they recreated the R2 model for Rayman.

Re: Rayman himself
I was never able to choose my favorite Rayman game because of this. I like Rayman 2 for the atmosphere and story, but while Rayman 3 does the enchanting atmosphere only occasionally and the storyline is somewhat simpler than R2's, I find the gameplay itself much more entertaining and I also like that (as you described) SWAG-ish attitude, because it reminds me of Sonic.Hoozang wrote:For you Rayman fans, what is the best appareance/style of Rayman? The childish one from R1, lil' bit more serious in R2, or the $WAG of R3?
I CAN'T CHOOSE!
As of appearance, I like the R3 one better as it fits the guy's slightly more "radical" tone well.
Stare at him while listening to Madder, I dare ya!

Re: Rayman himself
Yep, though I don't think there's any harm in doing two for R1, I think Origins overdid it a tad to the point where 25% of the levels were this.Spiraldoor wrote:Origins showed that Moskito levels could wear thin after a while
I also agree with the electoon bridge... would've been really cool to see something like that for R1, showing a sense of progression and accomplishment for everything you collected. Eh... I don't know, I have a thing for when 100% games really like to rub in your face how awesome you are for getting 100%, ha.
Re: Rayman himself
I felt disappointed by the lack of a real final award for the 100% conclusion. Even if you bother to collect all the Lum Medals nothing happens. Not even a message.

Re: Rayman himself
This is why I never bothered to collect all the lum medals, at least Mario Sunshine acknowledged the fact you went that far.
It kind of gives you the impression Ubi was all like "Oh... we never thought anyone was crazy enough to do that."

Fascinating question, very VERY tough choice for me. While R1 is my favorite of the series I'm not sure if his look is my favorite. I actually really like his R3 look despite being my least favorite of the trilogy (1-3), he looks incredibly dope and usually when I think Rayman it's oddly enough the first image that comes in my head. Don't know why exactly.Hoozang wrote:For you Rayman fans, what is the best appareance/style of Rayman? The childish one from R1, lil' bit more serious in R2, or the $WAG of R3?
Re: Rayman himself
Well, how you wrote it "We never get anything as great as the Moskito sequence in Anguish Lagoon." made me interpret like that part is the pinnacle of the Rayman series. I take it how it was since these games are the best in the series for certain members here. And yeah, I remember having that certain feeling but not with this game.spiraldoor wrote:Clearly I never said that, and I do wish you would avoid hyperbole, but yes, the Anguish Lagoon sequence is great. Have you forgotten what it's like to be seven years old, to be taken aback by this powerful new enemy, but to defeat him, become his friend and find yourself thrust right into an entirely new mode of gameplay?Bradandez wrote:And the Moskito sequence is the greatest thing to happen in the entirety of the Rayman series for you?
Rayman UbiArt style. It's crazy cartoony like how Michel intended with the original game.Hoozang wrote:For you Rayman fans, what is the best appareance/style of Rayman? The childish one from R1, lil' bit more serious in R2, or the $WAG of R3?
Just like with the 1000 Lums. Oh, you get more info for the Knowledge? Thats... uh nothing really.Haruka wrote:I felt disappointed by the lack of a real final award for the 100% conclusion. Even if you bother to collect all the Lum Medals nothing happens. Not even a message.

Re: Rayman himself
You're also called "Best Player" in the credits.
Re: Rayman himself
@Brad It is better than nothing. Back in that time you would unlock an important information about Rayman himself and it was a pretty cool thing. And besides, if you catch more than 90% of the Lums in the PS1 version you get able to play the scrapped 2D Rayman 2.
Re: Rayman himself
Oh, okay as seeing some people actually quoted me and answered, that's pretty cool.
I'll explain why I like so much the R3 design, and what is my least favorite design of Rayman (R1, R2, RO, RL, etc.)
Rayman 3
When I first discovered R3, I was stunned by the design of Rayman. It was like, very cool and genius, I even got obsessed with the (sweatshirt?) of Rayman so much, my character has even one sweatshirt of Rayman, just that, of course, changed a lil' bit. Maybe. But I like it because it was raw, stylish and cool.
My least favorite
Probably RO. I least liked this one because Rayman looked less playable to me, (NOT gameplay, u scrubz!) In fact, I didn't even like the shoes Rayman used, because I wanted the R3 shoes, not the R1 ones. See how much I'm obsessed with perfection, right? Yeh, right.

Re: Rayman himself
As a small correction, the shoes of RO are completely new and nothing of the likes of R1.
Re: Rayman himself
Ah, yes, you're right. But still, I wanted the R3 shoes

Re: Rayman himself
Indeed, RO's seems to be a mix of R3's and R1/R2's shoes.
Re: Rayman himself
I remember one of my original/early posts of me ranting about R3 HD, I might find it and put it here, in this exact post.

Wow. Thanks game.PluMGMK wrote:You're also called "Best Player" in the credits.
I can excuse the PS1 version since it adds more to the game, but having more info that could've been easily put into the manual instead is really underwhelming. The Lum Medals and Speed Trophies are there to give the players sort of a challenge if they're willing to do so. Otherwise, the game rewards them with Electoons for getting the minimum time/amount of Lums, which the Electoons are necessary in order to progress.Haruka wrote:@Brad It is better than nothing. I sincerely doubt Origins is how Ancel intended for Rayman 1 to look.Bradandez wrote:Rayman UbiArt style. It's crazy cartoony like how Michel intended with the original game.

He said he was trying to capture the look of Tex Avery when making the original Rayman. I could have worded it better, but oh well.Adsolution wrote:I sincerely doubt Origins is how Ancel intended for Rayman 1 to look.Bradandez wrote:Rayman UbiArt style. Re: Rayman himself
My favorite style is definitely from Rayman 3. Rayman's more radical, "teen" style is just a lot more interesting to me. It isn't just my favorite looking Rayman though, his personality in Rayman 3 was my favorite, since Rayman wasn't necessarily a mute but he remained mostly quiet and let his fists do most the talking. In Rayman 2, Rayman talks a lot, making him feel, for lack of a better word, inexperienced.
I also liked the touch of emotion between Rayman and Globox's relationship in Rayman 3 because it shows how dedicated of a friend Rayman could be. In Rayman 2, Globox didn't really feel like Rayman's "Best" friend, but more of a side character (In fact, Ly and Clark felt like closer friends). In Rayman 3, even though Rayman doesn't really seem to react to Globox's commentary, Rayman still cared about him, like how he panicked when he thought Globox crashed, or when he comforted Globox at the end of the game without reminding him how evil Andre really was. Hell, half the game is just escorting him to the doctors!
Also, Rayman's color scheme in Rayman 3 is basically the same as in Rayman 1 (which I like), where in Rayman 2 his color scheme was different, with yellow-ish skin, orange hair strands, a really muffled purple for his body and just overall darker, though that can be said for the entire game I guess lol.
Also, quick question, is it ever confirmed wither or not Rayman's body is actually purple or a skinned torso with purple clothing? I feel like the way Rayman's torso ring thing interacted with a lot of things (Betilla's magic, the masks, etc) deny the clothing idea, not to mention his neckerchief.
