The difference between the two threads isn't so much the syntax, but rather the topic discussed. ^ and <, back when we were posting a lot more, tended to use this thread to discuss each other's escapades, such as ^'s speaker projects. While we used the You Game to discuss happenings in our own lives, such as <'s ongoing studies, for instance.
This thread promotes learning and discussing about what we see others do and get up to. While the You Game functions more like a mini-twitter of sorts, allowing us to speak about our own day-to-day happenings without the need for more detail. That is what other threads, like the Daily Doldrums, can be used for.
