i've thought about this for a while, and indeed i agree.
Years later, mandm set the same trend when he chose not to reveal his lates findings in FC.

Long story short: I chose not to give any more concrete information about my level scores, as much as you'd like to see them. I believe it adds another layer of strategy to the compettion for the first spot, and that's what it's ultimately about: competition.

Well, I didn’t really want to bother replying to this nonsense, but since you quote me I guess I have to put some things straight.

Regarding my so-called secrecy, the correct version is:

Levels CF through TOTL: I have documented every improvement in the walkthroughs.

FC: I have documented my score in that level with a screenshot, and I have made public where the points are found, namely the Matuvu-combo in part 2 and some minor improvements in part 4.

My secrecy is thus limited to finding out how to play the Matuvu-combo.

So if you want to meet my level of secrecy you need to post a screenshot of the level which you improved and also make public which part you improved.

For the future, please don’t quote me out of context in order to rationalize your decisions. And may I remind you; I made several videos on your demand when you were stuck at 835k points for years.

I’m not sure whether I should laugh or take it as a compliment that you are so scared of even telling the members of this forum which level you improved.

Respect man. This guy should totally be nicer then he's being. You've been super nice considering he's outranked you and you've stayed modest.

in general, it appears you're feeling a lot more offended by my so called "nonsense" than you should be. what i did was objectively describe that the community has gone through a lot of shifts in its mentality from everything being released over held back combos to now complete discretion.
as i was expressing in my previous post, there's always someone who has to start - that's just the way it is, someone has to throw the first stone. it's everyone's free decision to do so (or not do so, for that matter).

when talking about "being scared" one should always ask oneself what other reason there could possibly be to hold back combos. i presume at no point in time you held back anything in fear of being overtaken by xenon, jona or whoever was right behind you at that point in time?

you said (if i may quote once again) that someone contending for first spot should at least come up with ideas of his or her own - and that's what i did, both in-game and competitively. i find your reaction somewhat inappropriate now that roles are reversed.

no offense, but i find it a bit rash of you to judge me based on what you've read during the past few days. this thread has a history of about 4800 posts, most of which contributed to my current point of view. i don't mind anyone who wants to add something to this conversation but i believe you should at least get yourself a rough outline of what this is about.

I know I don't know the full story but I'm just commenting on what I'm seeing now; it may not be totally accurate and I'm sorry if it isn't. It's just how it's coming across IMO

But the roles have been reversed once before when I wasn't able to play for a long time. You briefly took over the top spot and I asked you, twice, what you did improve. You never replied to that request. And now history repeats itself.

This forum has been an open forum where everyone shared ideas and thoughts. And I think you have benefited hugely by using this forum. As an example of the different mentality between us I tried to take a look at the German R3 forum http://twinsspieleforum.net/. You seem so caught up in the secrecy scheme of yours that there's now a password on the site keeping unwanted viewers from taking a peek at the Hoodlum Havoc thread.

I guess we'll have to wait for WikiLeaks to make those secret posts public. :mryellow:
 
let me get this straight: i did eventually agree to release videos of every combo i had found, although this was immediately overshadowed by you filming either slightly different versions or the exact same combos.

anyway, since you did not respond to a single point i made, i believe there is no use in continuing this conversation. this is becoming personal and i am not willing to have an argument on this basis.

i'll gladly look for another solution in the future though if we can have a conversation in a more reasonable tone. i'm looking forward to it ;)

I was only responding to your original post because you dragged me into it by quoting me.

May I ask, why are you posting on this forum? You have made it clear you don't to talk about your discovery despite the fact several members have asked you about it. So, what do you want to talk about?
 
I thought that the agreement of everybody who's playing R3 and participating in this topic is not hidding anything. It isn't like somebody is suddenly reaching the 800k with the reveal of the trick.

So I've took the past few days to give the whole secrecy thing another thought.
I will indeed provide a screenshot with my current score to meet, as MandM phrased it, "his level of secrecy", although I question why exactly he is the one to set the level of secrecy in the first place.

What actually convinced me was the fact that other forum members had asked about it and I don't want them to be involved in all this. To those people though: Please understand that I cannot and will not reveal any further information about how I've done this, since I really want to keep the competition going.

As for the future, I have new improvements in sight and I will provide screenshots to my score. Please take note though that I am not going to adapt to any more changes to the "level of secrecy" this forum has. I don't want to give people an easy way out by revealing all of there secrets and suddenly demand for me to do the same.

Congratulations, CC! That's a very very impressive score indeed.

I suspect I know where the main bulk of the improvement lies. One thing concerns me though: given that M&M now has three German players above him, I assume you've explained things to Cut and MG, and if so why are you being selective about who you tell? Speaking honestly, I totally understand the points you made about competition, but that should assign you to total secrecy and not picking and choosing people you wish to tell. I don't think it's fair-game to allow certain players to climb above others and it makes it seem as though you're purely trying to thwart M&M and his progress.

Nice to see some new life in this topic, by the way.
 
Thanks for the nice wishes again, Xenon. It's good to see you're still checking this thread even though you seem to have stopped playing a long time ago.

I actually saw this one coming to be honest, so allow me to explain: My improvement is by no means only my achievement. All of us came together once again to go for a new maximum in TOTL. I'm not the only one responsible for this. We all worked hard to sqeeze every last point out of the level for a new maximum score. Since we discussed those combos together, it's only natural that we all know how to play them. The new maximum in TOTL is our community project at the moment, and as you can tell from my score, we are clearly not finished as of now, since XXX.XX2 doesn't indicate a maximum.
I didn't intentionally share my combos with a selected group of people, it's just that we developed them together, so they aren't really "my" combos but "our" combos.
 
Xenon: Nice to see you here again. I guess we should have looked closer at certain combos when we were playing TOTL. Let me know if you want to have another go at it sometime. :D

DTUCC: You seem fixated on this secrecy theme. You seem to forget the history though.

There were some concerns about The Fairy Council some years ago.

1. You demanded extra points in FC because of the way the Vortex appeared in one of the parts.
2. Mountain Goat released a way to cheat on the pc platform.
3. Cut had a very peculiar behavior at the time, releasing non-existing combos and other made-up stuff.

The main reasons for me to not release videos at that point was partly to avoid mindless discussions with you concerning your demand for extra points, and partly there was a concern someone could use MG’s cheat to get a high score in FC. By not releasing the videos one could always ask a potential cheater how the score in FC was achieved.

As for all other levels everything has been revealed and released on this forum. When Xenon and I played TOTL a few years ago, we made videos of every improvement we made and put them on the forum.

As late as last month I released a video showing how to reach a new maximum score in DOTK. Thus I don’t keep secrets as you repeatedly have claimed.

In my opinion you have abused the openness and the hospitality in this forum. You and the other players on the German forum have visited this forum for inspiration and ideas. Now, if the members of the raymanpc forum want to visit the German forum for ideas and inspiration, they can’t because it is password protected. I think that shows a huge difference in our mentality.

I just wonder, what would your score really be if raymanpc had been password protected for you?

I honestly don’t know why you keep posting the same message again and again on this forum. You have now for the umpteenth time made clear you don’t want to reveal your secrets. I think we get the message. Now move on please.

First off, I believe we both love this game as much as anyone else in this forum. I've been playing R3 from the day its been released, but never for the challenge to get an ultimate score or anything like that, but for the challenge to become #1 in the world ranking. Back in the days, that loss due to the missing vortex just hurt me a lot - I would still be willing to look into a HoF ranking that is judged by the percentage of every player's respective maximum score. I do admit that my demand for extra points was inappropriate, but bear with me here, I just feel really bitter about this missing vortex even to this day when I think about it. I never asked for extra points since, though, because I had realised that this is impossible to properly execute.

2. MG is a highly accomplished member of the old RZ and the German Rayman community in general, and I think it's a lot better the way he handled the glitch, namely by releasing it right away instead of keeping it to himself. I do believe the knowledge about the existence of this glitch saves us more trouble than we might have if we didn't know about it.

3. Cut was 11 years old back at the time. Eleven. Don't tell me you haven't done any stupid shit when you were eleven. :P
It's not as if he had any bad intentions or such, I'm also 100% positive he never posted or achieved a fake score. Yes, these days we have the means to cheat our way to infinite amounts of scores, but I believe we have to trust each other on this one, as one can clearly see what happens to our community without trust in each other. I do believe everyone of us could hack his game in a way for him to achieve 999.999 points if he just looked into it. Cut just had a really bad timing there.

As for TSF's password protection, our reasons are as follows: There is explicit information on how to play every combo in TOTL to reach the score I have and even more. There is no information like that on how to play your FC combos on these forums, which is why it doesn't need a password. You said for yourself a few posts ago that you want to keep the competition by only telling us which combos you have improved, and I have now met those standards, which means we are on equal footing. We might as well delete our recent posts in TSF and open it up again, but what's the point? It's not like there is anything else of interest for you there.

That's pretty much all I have to say in conclusion, even though Cut or MG might want to add something since you explicitly named them in your previous post. If you want to add anything, feel free to do so, but please refrain from any insults like calling my posts "nonsense" or accusing me of abusing the openness of the forum. It's not like you haven't profitted from it yourself.

I do hope our future relationship will be a little bit more positive, or, at least, neutral.
 
For the record, I think Mountain Goat handled the cheat admirably and I never believed he would use the method himself. My concern was that other players could be tempted. As for Cut, well, let’s put it down to immaturity at the time then.

As for your own reaction to the Vortex question, it still seems to be fuel for arguments.

I think your reference to FC as a secrecy is way off the mark. I have later revealed to you where the points are. There’s no secret left.

The password protection on your forum is the weirdest thing I have seen. You keep everyone out of the German and yet you choose to post here on raymanpc and enjoy the privileges of an open forum. :confus:

Imagine this forum had been password protected for you. Then you wouldn’t have been able to learn how to play SBTC, which I think is the best analogy to TOTL. I documented every combo in that level with a video, including the way to the new maximum score. As I remember, it was all new to you at the time.

Another example is the revised CF. This level was also documented by videos from start to finish. With a password protection on this forum, you would never have seen these improvements.

Finally, yes, I have enjoyed the openness and hospitality of this forum in a big way. I also believe I have given something back.

Why don’t you give something back and make a video walkthrough of TOTL like I did for SBTC and other levels?
