Yes, that's basically the best explanation. Remember that these Lums actually appear as early as Rayman M, in the Race minigames. They look very similar to Rayman 2's Yellow Lums, but they have eyes (like in Origins) and clearly aren't part of the 1000 that form the HeartYellow Lum inflation is even worse, they went from 1000 in Rayman 2 to over 23,000 in Rayman Origins.
