I don't mind, we kinda filled up this poor thread.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Good decision Ad, I was about to say something of why we were discussing this in the R3 thread. No matter, I think the conversation should continue onward since it's clearly getting a lot of us to know each other a bit better I think.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
I kind of already said everything I had to say about this unless someone adds something. But i'm pretty much thinking the same, I think it does.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
@Ad You did well bringing the discussion here, it was much more away from the R3 thread already.

Indeed, anyways, I think we've gotten that out of our systems now.

"I went to school and came back home. Just the same boring routine going on in another boring, identical life. There is no adventure anymore; there is no fun; there's only a never-ending, life-sucking routine that we're all forced to follow until the day we die. There is nothing. There isn't even a point in trying to be successful in life, but then again there's no point to anything because we're all in the same routine and we'll all die one day and never be remembered - this routine will continue until life is no longer on this planet."
Just something I wrote on a different forum. I guess that would be what's bothering me at the moment.

It's not about what life gives you, it's about what you make of life.
It's about trying to make it better for other people whenever possible, and you'll find there's a lot of satisfaction and happiness that can come from that, and in turn will better your own life.
If you see death as a bad thing, answer me this: would you really want to live forever? Would that not suck? Would you not get tired eventually and be ready to go? Most people are when they die in old age.
Also if you find there's no point in being successful because you die, perhaps you can find meaning in the prospect of having children, and being able to pass things down to them, help them have a good future.
Just a few things I think about that have helped me find meaning and purpose in life.

You do make good points. Anyways, I wrote that while I was in the middle of some random angst, so yeah.MrBadGuy wrote:It's not about what life gives you, it's about what you make of life.

Well as long as I don't make things worse man, I've been in some dark places in the past, so anything I can do to help.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
That's depressing dark. Its boring and repetitive but believe me, i'd rather go to school than be bored 24/7 in front of the computer like I did for a whole year already. Its very lonely and lame. Life always goes on, because there is always something to reach for. Like how I want to be concept artist, despise being quite far away from my goal I will still continue with my studies of useless grammar and useless algebra but it will get me there. Did you try to find what goal you have in life? Also, I second what MrBadGuy said.Dark Lum Lord wrote:"I went to school and came back home. Tell me about it. I've been doing what you've described for nearly four months and I'm going insane. I could fill five pages with the things I dislike about the daily routine, but right now I only see it as a way out of this.ZeptoRay wrote:That's depressing dark. We actually do school for more than 12 years, and a good part of what we learn will be useless in the future, disappointment, i'd rather learn things that would be useful in my future than random crap that I will never use outside school.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Last year it was in fact a rule that anyone who asked what the point was for all the algebra we learned would be receiving detention.ZeptoRay wrote:We actually do school for more than 12 years, and a good part of what we learn will be useless in the future, disappointment, i'd rather learn things that would be useful in my future than random crap that I will never use outside school.
I feel like school as it currently is should end at age 15 or 16 and then proceed to focus on learning things that you'll actually remember. To me it would seem people would only be more skilled once their free to go.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Well, to answer your question Zepto, I don't really have any goals. I have no idea what I'll do with my life and I've basically given up already. I have to agree that I'd rather learn useful things in school rather than shit I'll never use in my life which'll be forgotten right after the day I graduate. But no, let's do algerbraic problems and read about the building of the transcontinental railroad, because we all know that'll help us in our futures.

Yes.MrBadGuy wrote:If you see death as a bad thing, answer me this: would you really want to live forever?
No, it wouldn't. There's so much to see, so much to experience. You can't honestly say, even when you're a hundred-years-old, that you've experienced all the world has to offer when you haven't even set foot outside our own celestial body, can you?MrBadGuy wrote:Would that not suck?
The only reasons I would get tired of life is if I've lost my ambition to continuously contribute to the world. Something would have to go wrong for me to feel that way, and whether it's inevitable or not, I know that the purpose for my existence is never-ending.MrBadGuy wrote:Would you not get tired eventually and be ready to go? To some, death can be seen as a privilege, 'peace' and 'rest' if you will. I don't understand where they're coming from really, because there's no peace or rest, it's just a load of nothing. That's not dignified, that's just shit. Whether or not I'll live to see the day when life-extension is made a reality I'm not sure, but I know that it's an area of science I strive to move forward into.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
You're still pretty young, don't give up so easily, question yourself about it, set it into something in your interest or something you would want to do someday like, a dream job, going in a country, make a freaking revolution about school, a crazy ambitious goal, or multiple easy ones, it can be literally anything.Dark Lum Lord wrote:Well, to answer your question Zepto, I don't really have any goals. Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
I'd like to extend my life also, just because I want to see what's going to happen, but I'd never want to live forever.
Besides if nothing else, our population is already a problem and if people stop dying it would be a huge issue.
The way I see it we're lucky to be around to experience what's going on in the world now, and another generation, and the generations after that will be lucky to see the future. Or not so lucky, depending on what happens.
Living for a long time isn't the same as living forever, try to wrap your head around that concept. Forever. Are you sure you want to live forever? Cuz I sure as fuck don't.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Well, forever within the bounds of what's physically plausible. Obviously we wouldn't be able to see past the end of the Universe, and the longer you live, the more prone to accidental death you are. Not that I seek an unforeseen death, but I foresee that life being very, very long.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
I sure would want to, as long as I have energy to do regular things even when old.MrBadGuy wrote:Living for a long time isn't the same as living forever, try to wrap your head around that concept. Forever. Are you sure you want to live forever? Cuz I sure as fuck don't.
