I thought I would give any RE (resident evil) fans here some of my unparalleled wisdom concerning the series. I will start by writing my guide to Resident Evil 4 first, because it is the most recent (and hardest) of the series so far. This is my version so it will follow exactly what I would do and recommend. Obviously, I won't be able to write it in one fell swoop, so It will come with regular updates. And please also remember that this is for the PS2 version only. So, then...

VILLAGE

From where you begin next to the police vehicle, head forwards. There are some crows here, and you can shoot them for some Gold and a spinel. Don't shoot them when you are too close, otherwise they will fly away. Once you are done, head into the dilapidated house to the left. Head on in and turn the corner, and get ready for your first encounter.

After the scene, shoot the villager in the head and then, while he is stunned, ready your knife and give him a few slashes to the head. This works well for a lot of lower case enemies and it will conserve all important ammo for the tougher fights that lie ahead.

Once he is dead, go past the fireplace and up the stairs. Once at the top, turn around and get the Handgun ammo that is on the table. Turn around and jump out the window. Kill all the enemies out here using the knife strategy. Also, it is quite simple to dodge and counter attacks using the knife by waiting for the enemy to attempt to hit you, and then moving forward slightly and applying some slashes. If you manage to stun them with the knife, don't forget to lay in some kicks too.

Once all the enemies are dead, head towards the hut just along the pathway. There is a typewriter here, so save your game if you wish. Smash the crates in here for a green herb. Take the handgun ammo from the table next to the typewriter, and then head out and turn left and continue along the pathway.

Shoot the crows that are on the signpost and the one on the ground for some Gold and a Hand Grenade - Very useful. You should be coming to a dog trapped in a bear trap, choose to free it, because it will come in handy for a boss fight later. Continue down the path, shoot the tripwire that is on the right to set it off, and don't go through the middle of them, because of the traps. Continue along the path and dodge the villagers attack and knife him. Continue further and you should come up to a shack with a woman impaled by a fork through the head sticking to it. Go inside and get the Handgun ammo, come out and head down the path again. Kill the two villagers here using the knife only.

Cross the bridge and go down the path, kill the villager in the hut and take the handgun ammo, continue along the path and go through the door. You will receive a transmission from Ingrid Hunnigan, read the playing manual and head towards the village. Get by the tree and take a look with your binoculars if you want, when you are finished, head down the left side path, don't head straight into the action just yet.

Head into the house in front of you and don't have anyone see you yet, you need to collect all the ammo for the battle that is about to happen, and It is quite a hard one so listen up. Take all the ammo in the house and jump out the window, There should be a lady working an something in front of you. Kill her, and take the red herb that is nearby. Now we can let the battle begin. head back to where you started in the village area, via the side path and get next to the tree. This is a great place to make a stand and make sure there is nothing behind you. Now fire away, all the ammo you have conserved by using the knife up until now should have paid off. Try and cut off some of the enemies from the others. Knife to the head, stun, kick and slash, rinse and repeat as needed. Shoot running enemies in the legs to get an instant knockdown and slash them to death while they are down.

A new wave of enemies should have showed up by now. You now have two choices, you can either run into the house that is next to the fire with the policeman hanging over it, or you can simply just make a stand against the enemies that have shown up. If you enter the house, prepare for a tough one, you will have to kill a Chainsaw man AKA Doctor Salvatore. There is a shotgun upstairs, equip it. You should be able to hear his chainsaw when he is near. Don't let him get to close to you, if he gets too close, he'll chop your head off. About 6 blasts from the shotgun to the head should be enough to kill him, take the Gold off him. Now use whatever ammo you have left to finish off the rest of the goons.

Soon enough, a church bell should ring and you will be free of enemies for now. Explore the village to find a yellow herb, some ammo, and a Grenade. You might be wounded by now, so combine the red, green, and yellow herbs to heal you fully and increase your maximum health. Look for a tower and follow the trail near it, go in the hut on the left and take the "Alert Order", and the Handgun ammo, continue along the path and head through the door.

This part is quite difficult if you are a beginner, so listen. Run past the signpost and some villagers will push a rock of the side of the cliff. Sprint by pressing the X button as fast as possible, and then at the end press either R1 and L1 or square or X, and the boulder should just miss you.

Run through the tunnel past the bats, and shoot the shining objects off the top for 3 spinels. When you emerge out at the other side, there should be a villager in front of you with a stick of dynamite. These guys are very dangerous so if they manage to throw one, get out of the way quick.

Dynamite Guys; Tips.

1) When they light their TNT shoot it before they can throw it and it will explode in their hand, killing them and other nearby enemies.

2) If they manage to throw one at you, move near other enemies so that they will get killed.

3) If you kill a TNT guy kill him when he is surrounded by other enemies so you can kill them too and save ammo.

Once all the enemies are dead here, shoot the Birds nest in the tree to get a red catseye, which will come in useful if you managed to find the beerstein. Search the houses for herbs and a grenade. Enter the big house at the end and shoot both the tripwires and get the money of the table. Push the cabinet out of the way of the doorway and open the closet that is banging.

You and luis sera should wake up in another barn, watch the scene and press R1 and L1 in time to avoid the mad mans attack. Once you are done, head outside and talk to the merchant. Sell all the spinels that you have found so far, and get money. If you shot the blue medallions, get the punisher and sell the handgun and the punisher too, and buy the red9, it's much better.

It's over the top. Most other games at least put a cap on blood and gore.

You can't exactly have not much blood when someone gets blown up or decapitated.

True. But then they shouldn't get blown up or decapitated.

I love Resident Evil, but my favourite one is not RE4, it's RE1 Rebirth (the GameCube version).
By the way, Dave, did you get all extra weapons in RE4?
