Rayman PC IRC (group-chat instant-messenging)

Hello, I thought it would be a good idea to have an instant-messenger, an IRC, for Rayman PC, so I created one. :) It's simple and easy to use. No registration required. Just click "Enter", and enter your nickname, and be connected instantly!

---
I have updated and registered the channel! Meaning now it can save settings into its database. This also means that if I make a mod on RaymanPC a mod/admin/op on the IRC, then, assuming they have a registered account (do what DesLife said on page four), they will permanently be a mod/admin/op... so it'll be a lot more organised!
---

ENTER

If you're having trouble connecting via that webclient, try one of these simpler ones (sorry, no RaymanPC skin):

Solution 1
Solution 2
Solution 3

- Report any bugs, and ways you think could help improve this chat.
- Mods and Admins are encouraged to register their nicks so they can be uniquely given at least temporary OP.

List of Ops
  • DesLife (Owner)
  • Adsolution (Admin) <- Was owner, but was mysteriously robbed of said title.
  • PowerPatrick (Admin)
  • SuperSunshine
  • Serza5
  • Haruka

IRC Guide (by DesLife)

Using the IRC is actually pretty simple. There are only a few basic commands you need to know in order to use it.
To use a command, you have to type "/[command name here]". For example, to change your nick, you only need to type "/nick [New nickname]". However, while you are not online, anyone can use you nick, thus it's recommended you register your nickname: there's a wiki page for that on mibbit's wiki.

The other commands you need to know are join, part, quit, whois, away and me (they are not really necessary if you only use the RaymanPC Mibbit interface for our chan, but they will provide you with a basic understanding of how to use the IRC).
To join another channel, type "/join #[Channel name]" : this will create a new tab in your IRC tab (yo dawg) for the channel you just joined. If said channel doesn't exist, this will create it.
Ex : /join #RaymanPC (This is obviously our chan)

quit is self-explanatory : it will simply quit the IRC. However, if you only want to leave one chan, use part.
Ex : /part #RaymanPC (or just /part if you want to leave the chan in which you're typing this command).

whois allows you to get some information about another user. For example, here is the result of /whois DesLife:

Code: Select all

Nick: DesLife
Away: At school
Username: [email protected]
Real name: purple
Server: Equinox.tx.us.nixtrixirc.net (Nixtrix IRC Server)
Currently on: ~#RaymanPC
Idle for: 2 minutes
Online since: Fri 06 Jan 2012 02:26:50 PM CET
You can see which chans I'm on, for how long I've been online and idling, and whether I'm away or not.

away is useful if you have to leave but don't want to quit the IRC. Some people change their nicks for that purpose (Adsolution changes it to Adsolution|Zz when she goes to bed).
Ex : /away At school. When you are back, just simply type /away.

Finally, me is a useless but fun command. It makes you talk in the third person.
Ex: /me is writing an IRC guide.
(04:27:16 PM) ***DesLife is writing an IRC guide.

To privately talk to someone, just click on their name in the memberlist and click on PM (you can also use the command query). Clicking on Info will show you the same infos that whois. Ignore is self-explanatory.

Tip: when typing someone's nick, just type the first two letters then hit Tab. IRC will complete the nick for you.

How to set up an IRC client to use Nixtrix

You can stick to using the webclient, but if you grow tired of it or want to try something else, you can use a desktop IRC client. For this guide I will show you how to use Pidgin.
Once you've downloaded the software, go to Accounts > Manage accounts (or simply do Ctrl + A). Create a new account.

Code: Select all

Protocol : IRC
Username : Your nick
Server : irc.nixtrixirc.net
Password : your pw if your nick is registered
In the advanced tab, make sure the port is 6667.

Now enable this account (it's called [email protected]), this will open some tabs (Chanserv and Nickserv). Type /join #RaymanPC. To add this chan to your favorites, just do Conversation > Add.

And there you are!
Note : Pidgin can also be used for many other IM protocols, such as MSN, AIM, Facebook Chat or even Steam Friends. Very convenient.

Thanks for reading and see ya on the IRC!

Yes, on the right side. :)

EDIT:

Okay I know it's a little hard to get going right away, but check in every once in a while. Once you start talking to people or groups of people over the IRC, it becomes quite addicting!

Alright. :)

Also this would probably be the most versatile method: The Admin can embed it into a page in a small rectangle so you don't have to open it up in a new tab or in Mibbit by using HTML. It works with something like this:

Code: Select all

<iframe width="400" height="200" src="http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=2e10a36ff32d258e85fb782fb9fe9b73&server=irc.mibbit.net&channel=%23RaymanPC"></iframe>

Thanks. :)

Also, I've figured out how to save the skin, so next time nobody's on, I'll apply it.

UPDATE:

I've set up the new RaymanPCish IRC! There are some new features such as sound notifications when someone posts, a simpler joining screen, and of course, the new skin. :)
