Upa's Rayman 1 Playstation GameShark/Action Replay Codes

Post by upaluppa »

Hello folks, I have a little gift to share with you!
I spent a few weekends of free time on hacking various Rayman (and other Ubi Soft) games for the Playstation 1 and I am happy to finally share the results of my work with you all! :)

I give you my word that all of these codes are my own work.
They were not stolen from anyone else and you won't find them anywhere else on the internet! (With the exception of this thread, of course)

So here are all of my hacks for Rayman 1 and the Rayman Junior spin-offs:

Rayman 1 (US Version: SLUS-00005)

Image
(Yeah, you can turn any level into a timed bonus stage with these codes!)

I have to admit that I am just too lazy to describe all of them here but just try them out and you should be able to see what they do!
If you really need help getting a code to work or figure out how to use it don't hesitate to ask me.

Well, most of them are just glitching the game in weird ways so there's nothing too exciting here anyways.
The more useful codes follow below:

301E5420 0003
Suicide Mode 2
301E5420 0004
No Clip Mode 2
301E5420 0005
- "No Clip Mode" is probably a debug leftover which was used by the developers to test the game.
It allows you to fly around the levels freely without any object or enemy getting in your way!
Image

- "Moskito Mode" just makes the game think that Rayman is riding Bzzit!
The animations are glitched because Bzzit's sprite is missing but the game behaves just like it did in the Anguish Lagoon level apart from that!

- "Suicide Mode 1" simply makes you die, the 2nd one also makes you die but is used specifically for dieing while you are riding Bzzit.
You probably don't want to use this code anyways, it's just included for completeness sake.

- "No Clip Mode 2" is near identical to the 1st one, Rayman just moves faster in this version.

- All of these codes give you the basic Fist, Hang On Ledge and Ring Grab abilities.
The only difference between them is the type of helicopter power you have and whether you have the funny face or the magic seed power!

Don't use the magic seed power in any levels other than the rising water part of "The Swamp Of Forgetfulness" tough.
It makes the game go boom, if you know what I mean!

- Midget is just the shrink effect of the blue elf but with big Rayman graphics.
Looks quite funny, here's a picture:
Image
(This effect is actually used if you get hit by the giant Drum Sticks in Band Land in the Saturn and PC versions, so it's more than a mere graphic glitch)

- The unused death animation is an animation in which Rayman is slowly collapsing to the ground before dissolving.
Image
(I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the game, it should be unused!)

(This shadow effect for the pause menu text is unused!)

Image
(You can make glitched text windows show up in any level with these codes!)

Image
(You can activate the rain effect from the rising water level in any other Dream Forest level! Other worlds have different effects, like snow, for example!)

Image
(The "Messed Up Levels" code allows you to create abominations like this)

I have to admit that I am just too lazy to describe all of them here but just try them out and you should be able to see what they do!
If you really need help getting a code to work or figure out how to use it don't hesitate to ask me.

Well, most of them are just glitching the game in weird ways so there's nothing too exciting here anyways.
- The only things worth mentioning here are the demo ends here message which is not included in the full game for obvious reasons:
Image
(It seems to be a modified version of the credits screen used in the final game)

- ...and the debug mode which isn't all that fancy but interesting nonetheless:
Image
(Note the black bar at the left screen border! The same debug indicator is also used in the early Rayman Prototype on the Atari Jaguar!)

Press the Select button to switch between two different debug modes which are indicated by a small flickering black bar at the left side of the screen.
Press the R2 button to freeze the game and activate a frame advance mode.

When frame advance is activated keep holding down the R2 button and press any other button at the same time to advance the game by one frame.
Press R2 again to unfreeze gameplay and deactivate frame advance mode.

I haven't found any other uses for the debug mode so far but that doesn't mean that this is all it has to offer.
So if you happen to uncover more features don't hesitate to share your knowledge and I will add the info to this thread!

The only levels I found working in this demo are "Pink Plant Woods", "Anguish Lagoon", "The Swamp Of Forgetfulness" and "Alegro Presto".
"Moskito's Nest" just loads the last level you played instead but with the forest background from the first Moskito's Nest level and with glitched sprite graphics.
"Bongo Hill" freezes the game when you try to play it but the level after it, "Alegro Presto" is working fine, strangely.
This has to do with the levels shown during the gameplay demos on the title screen I suppose since the levels for them must be included on this disk, obviously!

- "No Clip Mode" is probably a debug leftover which was used by the developers to test the game.
It allows you to fly around the levels freely without any object or enemy getting in your way!
ImageImage

- "Glitch Mode" is a leftover from the original Rayman 1.
It's from the level "Anguish Lagoon" in which Rayman is riding Bzzit, to be precise!
This code horrribly glitches the game and makes it unplayablesince Bzzit's sprite is not included in Rayman Brain Games...

- "Suicide Mode 1" simply makes you die, the 2nd one also makes you die but was used specifically for dieing while you were riding Bzzit in Rayman 1.
So it is unused in Rayman Brain Games but that doesn't really matter because the effect is exactly the same you get with suicide mode 1.
You probably don't want to use this code anyways, it's just included for completeness sake.

- "No Clip Mode 2" is near identical to the 1st one, Rayman just moves faster in this version.

300949D0 00CB
- All of these codes give you the basic Fist, Hang On Ledge and Ring Grab abilities.
The only difference between them is the type of helicopter power you have and whether you have the funny face or the magic seed power!

If you use the magic seed power in any levels other than "Butterweed Bog" it won't have any effect, so no plants will grow...
Image
(Interestingly it does NOT crash the game as it used to do in the original Rayman 1 but it makes weird sound effects if you try to plant seeds in a non Dream Forest level!)

- Yes, it is indeed possible to obtain the running power from Rayman 1 in the educational Rayman games!
Image
(It works just as it is supposed to and should make your life in some of the levels a lot easier!)

- The unused death animation is an animation in which Rayman is slowly falling to the ground before dissolving.
I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the game, I guess it must be unused!

- "Midget" is just the shrink effect of the blue elf but with big Rayman graphics.
ImageImage
(This effect is used when you get hit by a Drum Stick in Band Land in Rayman 1 on the Saturn and PC)

It's been some time since I last finished Rayman Brain Games but I don't remember any Drum Sticks in this game at all.
If this is true then the "Midget" effect is also unused here, yeah! :)

RANDOM CODES:

Code: Select all

Demo Mode
30095775 0000
Invincibility Mode
30095564 0001
Unknown Debug Feature
30095AA8 0001
Glitch Levels
30094F50 0077
- A couple of random hacks I created more or less unintentionally.

- "Demo Mode" makes Rayman walk by himself.
The code makes the game think that the current level is one of those level introduction demo scenes with the magician, I guess.

Image
- "Invincibility Mode" allows you to walk right through enemies without getting hurt! With this code it's easy to take a closer look at those deadly Red Antitoons and Prickly Balls!

- "Glitch Levels" corrupts the level layout for all levels, turns them into a weird mess of floating platforms and makes them unbeatable in most cases.
Might be interesting to play around with this code but don't expect any really useful results...

Anyways, the more useful codes follow below:

MOVEMENT TYPE SELECT:

Code: Select all

No Clip Mode
300951F4 0000
Normal Mode
300951F4 0001
Glitch Mode
300951F4 0002
Suicide Mode
300951F4 0003
Suicide Mode 2
300951F4 0004
Fast No Clip Mode
300951F4 0005
- "No Clip Mode" is probably a debug leftover which was used by the developers to test the game.
Image

It allows you to fly around the levels freely without any object or enemy getting in your way!

I really hope that you'll enjoy those codes and find a way to put them to good use!
I had a lot of fun creating them, so hopefully you'll be able to have the same amount of fun while trying them out!

I also have a bunch of codes for Rayman 2 (and other Playstation games using the Rayman 2 engine), why don't you check them out as well?

Just follow this link:
viewtopic.php?t=7064

If you have any questions regarding the codes, or just want to discuss their effects, ideas for future hacks or requests for porting codes to other regions/versions of Rayman games feel free to share them in this thread!

Does anybody here have a PSP?
I have all these codes in a single cheatpops.db file for use with CWCheat!

Just grab my cheat file here:

Rayman Junior English? = http://www.defconsoft.co.uk/database.ph ... b3a86f2381

Cause I nearly thought that was for the UK Rayman Junior which is Brain Games with a British dub

Most members here have the European versions of the games and won’t be able to use these codes.

I know...
In fact I only have the EU versions (the actual discs) of the games myself. (I live in Germany and my PSX won't play NTSC games anyways)
Also the Rayman 1 Preview and Rayman Brain Games are US exclusive.
(Brain Games is split into 3 Rayman Junior versions in Europe but I guess that's no news to you)

The only reason why I hacked the US versions instead was that I needed an emulator with debugging capabilities in order to hack those codes and said emulator had trouble emulating PAL games properly...

But that shouldn't be much of a problem, I can port these codes to the EU versions of the games in no time, now that I have them hacked!
The game code is basically identical in structure between US and EU versions, usually the memory addresses are just shifted by a few bytes, that's all!

I don't mind slowdowns and cut-off screen borders while porting codes from one region to another but you can believe me that hacking completely new codes in a game which runs in a matrix like slow down mode all the time is no fun at all.

Hey, just give me some time and I'll post EU ports of all the important codes like level select, debugging options, power modifiers etc. so you guys and gals with PAl discs can enjoy the cheats in your own game versions as well, promised!

Thanks, I look forward to checking these out. Incidentally – do you think it might be possible to create a hacked save that lets you play through each level as if you were playing through it for the first time? A lot of material is automatically skipped during replays (boss fights, levels with boss encounters, Betilla levels, dialogue with Tarayzan, the Musician and Joe, etc). In order to play through these sections again, you have to keep multiple saves. One save that gives you access to everything all at once would be fantastic.

Hmm...
I am not that much into savegame hacking, I am more into cheat code hacking.

However, if there's one thing I am sure I would be able to do then it's hacking a bunch of codes which allow you to modify which "events" in the game have been passed and which not. What I mean are small "time shift" codes which would look like this:

Code: Select all

Bzzit Boss Fight Finished ON
codehere...

Bzzit Boss Fight Finished OFF
codehere...

Tarayzan Scene Passed ON
codehere...

Tarayzan Scene Passed OFF
codehere...
I could easily hack such codes for both PAL and US versions.
That way you could simply decide for yourself whether you want to replay the Bzzit Boss Fight level again (in a 100% complete savegame, for example) or if you want to skip the boss fight stage during a new playthrough just to give an example!

There are a few really cool stages like the one in which you are chased by Moskito with a huge spiked fruit, the wrong notes stage in "Alegro Presto", the Mr Stone chase stage in blue mountains, the whole Candy Chateau world and so on which can't be replayed after beating them the first time.
It would be great if we could replay all of them whenever we'd like to, same goes for those small details like helping Tarayzan, the musician, Joe etc. and all of the boss fights, of course!

I'll see what can be done there!
I wrote a few descriptions for the cheats in this thread, by the way! Just check the first post again!

My Rayman 2 codes, however, are still lacking descriptions...
I haven't had time to write those yet but I'll get them done tomorrow!

The midget mode actually appears in the Saturn version of the game. It happens when Rayman is squashed by a drumstick in Band Land:

I also think Dark Rayman dies via the unused death animation when Rayman reaches the sign at the end of Mr Dark’s Dare phase 2. Skip to 2:32:

Right so, I've tried one of the Brain games cheats that I had to put in my own user database, chose all the right plugins, but I get this. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Which cheat code was it that you tried?
Do none of them work?

I have tested all of my codes (on the PSP but that shouldn't make any difference), they should work without problems so if more than one refuses to work it must be because of the cheat plugin or you made some kind of mistake...

Edit:
I just updated this thread with more pictures, by the way!

You mean this code?

Code: Select all

Glitch Mode
30094C40 0002
I guess I should have put a warning somewhere - this cheat has a high (like 90% of the time you activate it :| ) tendency to crash the game...

It makes the game think that Rayman is riding on Bzzit, the friendly Mosquito from the original Rayman 1 but glitches the graphics and causes weird things to happen, especially if you use it in a non Dream Forest level!

I am sorry, I have updated the descriptions of my cheats by now, so you are warned of the effects this cheat might have on the game.
Please, try any of the other, less risky codes and tell me that it works for you, ok?

That way I can be sure that the problem was just related to the effects of this code and not to the fact that I hacked my codes on a PSP.
How about this Rayman Brain Games code:

Code: Select all

Invincibility Mode
30094FB0 0001
Activate it in any level and then try walking into an enemy and see if it hurts you or not!

This cheat should work without problems!

Sure, there you go:

Code: Select all

Activate Rain Effect

301F43FA 0022
301F43FC 0022

Should work in any level. Raindrops in the Dream Forest and snowflakes in all other worlds.
The code is for the US version of Rayman 1.

I'll post an EU version of the code as soon as I finished "obtaining" the PAL release of Rayman 1!

It definitely doesn’t happen in the PlayStation version.

That rain/snow hack has amazing potential. Someone should make a video showing altered weather in some choice levels – Space Mama’s Crater, for example.

Is there a way to replace a level’s normal background with backgrounds from other levels yet? For a long time I’ve wanted to see Band Land with the moon background from the Space Mama fight.

I can confirm that it does NOT happen in the Playstation and Jaguar versions, I have tried it a couple of times now and Rayman always does the normal "fall back" animation if he gets hit by the Drum Sticks in these versions!

About the Saturn version I have to take spiraldoor's word for granted as I have never played that one myself...
However, for the PC version the "midget" effect is actually used, that's for sure!
(The add-ons like Rayman Designer, 60 New Levels etc. also use it, by the way)

I find it really fascinating to point out all these small differences between versions! Some of this stuff is mostly overlooked, or people just assume that it is the same in every version. Hey, it would be great if raywiki would contain more information on such version differences, in my opinion!

I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the game, I guess it must be unused!
I remember having a PC version of Rayman Brain Games (known for me as "Rayman teaches Maths and Polish") and I was very lucky to perform a glitch of some sort which made me able to make Rayman run anytime I wanted him to do that (in the last level only)... It was such an amount of luck...

I'm 70% positive the unused death animation was, in fact, used when Rayman comes in contact with his "Wicked double" (AKA Bad Rayman). I'll check it up...

As for the midget in the educational games - I'm 85% sure there are drumsticks there. I'll check it up...
