It says ‘Team Fortress 2 Free Week’. Before I download it, I’d like to know whether this means we can acquire the game for free this week and play it indefinitely, or if it can only be played for the remainder of this week before we have to pay for it.

This is pretty different from the free Black Ops week-end, so I think this is just like what they did for Portal.

Official Team Fortress website wrote:we've decided to celebrate the Über Update by giving you an offer you can't (or at least shouldn't) refuse--an unprecedented WEEK-LONG FREE WEEKEND of Team Fortress 2, starting right now!
They still say free weekend.. What makes it so different from the Black Ops weekend exactly, Des?

Well fuck.
Black Ops was featured in everyone's library during that week-end, and it showed the remaining time. It was something like "Black Ops Free multiplayer week-end - 2 days remaining !"
