What, nobody's done it in Classic or Demise? :hehe:

Well, the game hasn't seen much speedrunning yet, with only five runs for any% and two for "all cages" but I'm still surprised that Classic wasn't picked as the default (well, that makes me feel better about playing Casual ).

As for Demise... would you do us the honors, PluM? :bad:

I'm sorry, right now my "work-intensive pet project for little gain" is a Virtual DOS Machine running on 64-bit Linux. Maybe I'll put it on Github and post the link here sometime. Once that's done, I might consider the remote possibility of creating a Demise savefile for Redemption. :bad:

EDIT: To clarify, by "little gain", I meant the notion of my speedrunning Demise with no other experience, not speedrunning in general.

So you're basically pioneering the 0% speedrun. You might just get a record nobody can beat. :hap:

Anyway, good to see some individual level action on Redemption! Looks like Rmuda got two other records in January, Bongo Hills and Gong Heights:

Nice, I can see that Rmuda moved on from individual levels to full-game speedrun! That's a pretty commending run, and I think the first place is within reach with a bit of practice (or grinding ). I didn't watch it past Playtopia though, as I still have to complete the game myself and I prefer to discover Redemption's Candy Château (and whatever comes after that) myself.

The comparison with the original game is quite interesting: looks like damage boosts are still a thing, though to a much lesser extent, and the crazy ring-hopping with lots of momentum is obviously gone. As for glitches, I'm not sure that skipping some the levels (like the mosquito ones) or ducking under yin-yangs is actually intended behavior, but besides the skip in Eat at Joe's, I didn't notice anything major. It raises, still, the question of what would happen were the developer to fix them...

Well, that's pretty neat regarding the Swamps of Forgetfulness, this shaves a whole four seconds off Rmuda's record from last week. He did, in fact, manage to reach the plum from phase 1 for the early cycle, and he probably saved a split second near the end of phase 2.

As for Anguish Lagoon, it looks like the 0.8s gain from EthanW0518's run is obtained in the middle of phase 2, though the difference is minor, as one would expect given the scale of the improvement.

And regarding Moskito's Nest, well, in phase 1 he used the same skip Rmuda did in his full-game run from last week, which saved about nine seconds compared to EthanW0518's previous record, it looks like the plum cycle saved another two or three in phase 2 (maybe punching the last plum instead of jumping on it helped too), less punching in phase 3 probably saved a half-second or so, not getting hit and skipping the plum section in phase 4 got him almost five seconds back, and a final four seconds were saved on Moskito. That's a total of over 20 seconds, so quite a lot, really!

The Mr Sax improvement is amazing, also it looks like it's best to deal as much damage as you can during the chase sequence, it doesn't seem to change anything for the actual battle.

A notable difference between Redemption and the original game in terms of speedrunning is that you can't abuse the flying ring mechanics anymore, however the addition of those infamous yellow rings kinda makes up for that, as they seem even harder to master than the good old ring boosts.

Looking at Inzarcon's latest Gong Heights run, he does pretty well with them in part 2, and yet he acknowledges that there's still a lot of potential for time saves there. I think they're so hard to get right that this is the kind of level where we'll see a lot of very small improvements, at least as long as there's still people running the game.

Well, speedrunning the Bzzit autoscrollers isn't of much interest, but looking at the Brain Games video, I'm thinking it would be pretty cool if the riddles (well, if I can call them that :P) were randomized, this would add a whole dimension to the run for sure.
