How should Ubisoft revive Rayman?

This gonna sound a tad corporate lol, but what are your ideas on how Ubisoft should handle reviving the series? Going off my 2 cents, they should be utilizing the usual dev playbook, as it seems too obvious

A Rayman remake imo is pretty much guaranteed, but I still think the OG R1 should be rereleased. Preferably the PSX version, as it seems all versions we've had since 2000s are based on DOS. HQ sound effects, no slowdowns, maybe even tweak certain level layouts while you're at it

Rayman 2 and 3 could definitely use remasters, but in different ways of for each. R2 just needs a simple touch-up, like many "lazy" remasters go, really. Use the DC version and just upscale the visuals, add QoL tweaks like better camera, tweak the enemy AI and make it harder, maybe add the language dubs from Revolution and the OG prototype from PSX as extras, etc.

Now Rayman 3 is the one that needs enhanced remastering the most. Basically BG&E Anniversary-style. Improved models, improved visuals, more options, resynced cutscenes for the English dub, QoL tweaks, shove in as much extra content as possible, re-encode all FMVs in HQ, maybe even revive the water level to increase the game length, the list goes on. Just... don't use that Origins-styled logo... please :sad:

And lastly, an Origins X Legends double pack. High-res assets for both games, with additions like Vita collectibles for Origins (changed ofc due to a lack of touchscreen) and all costumes for Legends (except Mario + Luigi ones)

All these projects can be spread around 2 years of release from one another, giving each one a room to breathe, but still keeping the franchise going in some capacity. Safeproof the PC versions by releasing them on GOG eventually, so they won't be eternally damned to Ubisoft Connect :oops2:


So then, what are your suggestions on how they should handle it? :D

This is not going to happen, but a 3D game set after Rayman 3 and treating the UbiArt era as some kind of a dream not affecting the future of the series would be a dream scenario for me. Yeah, that means no Barbara. :P

Saying the future of the franchise should be something "lazy" is quite the take on a fan-board :lol:

It seems that I'm the only one with that opinion, but I feel that R2 needs a full-on remake. WIth the myriad of ports, there's no definitive edition. Only small things, of course, like Ninjaws or one form of the Razorberad fight. It would provide a nice fertile ground to regroup everything while also giving the opportunity to revamp the combat mechanics that are, let's be honest, not overly burden with complexity.

At this point, I just want a *game*, I genuinely do not give a damn if it's a remake or a new game, Rayman hasn't had a game since Legends (and its Switch release in 2017). Bro's been left high and dry while Ubisoft's been working on Assassin's Creed and Just Dance, now all of a sudden they care about Rayman because they're drowning and possibly nearing money issues?

It's baffling.

Before you ask, no, i do not count the mobile games as "mainline".

Maybe I'm getting my expectations too high, but I feel like should get quite a bit of new content considering it is his 30th anniversary (All I have really seen is a few social media posts and the whole Rayman alive event)

Ehhh tbh not really? Rayman 2 to this day is a perfectly well made game. I don't actually mean "Make it a crappy port job and be done with it". It getting a simple bump in res with HD textures and a few tweaks is all it needs

Simply use Dreamcast as a base, maybe reorganize certain pirate placements, tweak their AI pattern to be more vicious and you're golden. With the only new additions being a few standout mini-games from Revolution and the OG R2 prototype as an unlockable

Yeah, again. Remasters are the safest moneymakers ever. Just do those to both holdover older fans, and introduce newer ones to the series in preparation for the REAL revival with a new game

Like other oldies here, I had the privilege of growing up with some incredible interactive experiences, Rayman included. Seeing what has become of these various franchises has led me to understand that these games are really a product of their time.

It was a time that new technology was emerging and there was no "rulebook" on how to make a cool game, particularly when it came to 3D.

When I play a game like Rayman 2, I love how the simple textures express an environment in such an abstract way. Not for the sake of being abstract—it's trying to convey a real atmosphere as best it can. The result is that the feel of a place is enhanced beyond a modern attempt that could describe it more accurately. It forces the player to engage with the subjective factor, which is suitable for a game that prioritizes immersion.

Even this kind of "retro" experience can be mimicked, though in that case a brand new experience (a totally new game) in that style would seem more authentic to me. What Rayman should pass down are his genes, not his clone. (No, I'm not talking about doing the dirty with his invisible member.) This is the thing that is so hard for fans to grasp: that a game could be more like Rayman without having any of the established characters, settings or moves, because it feels like Rayman, aesthetically, mechanically, symbolically, emotionally.
