User:RayCarrot/RayWiki Improvements
An incomplete list of improvements to be made to RayWiki. Feel free to help expand this.
In general its the articles on the early production of games which are missing the most content. A lot of recent discoveries have not been documented and are instead left hidden away in various Discord servers or YouTube videos. Interviews from old magazines or websites have been uploaded to places such as archive.org but not been documented on here even though they sometimes reveal information about the development of certain games.
Improvements
Improve Rayman 4 (cancelled prototype) and Rayman Raving Rabbids (cancelled prototype)
The prototype articles for all iterations of Rayman 4 are in need of updating due to inaccurate or missing information.
Main issues:
- The articles tend to mix up several of the canceled games. There are 4 separate ones (Rayman 4 Phoenix, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Rayman 4 2007, Rayman 4 2013). This is handled correctly in the French article, making that a potential good template for rewriting the English one.
- A lot of information is missing, especially more recent findings. Videos and images have been shared online, and a document including development info and direct developer quotes.
Related to this there should also be more info on the development of the GBA and DS versions of the game. Droolie made a video on the DS version with a lot of new information, a lot of which comes from the leaked prototype. The GBA version also has had various discoveries made about it, from contacting developers and from concept art posted by the game designers online.
Document information from leaked prototypes
CPA leak
In early 2002 the CPA engine was leaked, including an early version of the DS version of Rayman Raving Rabidds (originally Rayman 4). Various development information on the history of the engine and Rayman 2 can be found here, along with the early build of the DS version of Rayman Raving Rabidds. See Droolie's video for more info on the latter.
Jade leak
In late 2022 the Jade engine was leaked along with an early version of Rayman Raving Rabbids before it became a party game. This early build includes a lot of details which have not been documented on the wiki, such as characters, story, gameplay mechanics, locations and more. Mae has made several videos on this.
Rayman 3 GBA leak
Most of the prototypes and their early contents have been documented, but the leak also includes several developer documents. These reveal interesting things about its development, such as the change from Rayman 2 to 3, difficulties with game testing and more. See my Twitter thread for some of the info.
Include information from L'Histoire de Rayman
There is a lot of information on the development of the various games in the book that have not been included on the wiki. This mainly includes information on the various iterations of Rayman 4, but also details on other games.
Update, and rewrite parts of, Rayman Origins (early production)
There is a lot of information missing from here, especially when it comes to content revealed in the recent prototype video. The localization excel sheet that was accidentally included in a Just Dance update also adds a lot of context to the cut dialog in the game (like the original The Reveal cutscene with Ales Mansey, making it clear who is saying what lines and where the cutscenes take place). It also includes developer comments not previously seen, revealing early names for the Snoring Tree among other things.
Add sources
A lot of the information present on the wiki sadly lacks sources. I think it's important to include these whenever possible. It could be from the history book or from an old interview on archive.org.
Split galleries into sections or add descriptions
A lot of articles have very large gallery sections where images appear in a seemingly random order with no context to what they are for. I think it would help if these could be split into smaller sections and have some text associated with them. For example who made the concept art, what year is it from etc.
Add articles for new Rabbids games
Most Rabbids games have articles on here, but several of the newer ones don't.
Information from Beyond Good & Evil remaster
The new 20th anniversary remaster for BG&E has some new Rayman related information, such as Rayman intended to have been an animal you could take a picture of (along with his model being shown!), a level from Rayman 2 being ported into the Jade engine to test it and some info on Rayman's Training.
Add information from interviewers
Several developer information for various Rayman games have not been documented on here. Some of them reveal interesting information about the development of the games. There are ones all the way back from when Rayman Advance released and up to more recent ones such as this one. When information from these are added to their respective articles it's important to include a reference back to the interview.
Create missing articles for Rayman in the Phantom Show
The Rayman in the Phantom Show navbox still contains a lot of red links: those articles need to be created.
