Lava Factory is the second Extreme race course in Rayman M.
Lava Factory is the second racecourse in the Extreme League in Rayman M. It can be unlocked by winning all three racing levels of the Expert League in the Race mode. In Rayman Arena for GameCube and Xbox, the map is featured in cup 4 (Beginner League and Master League) and cup 8 (Pro League) and completing Pipe Maze is necessary to unlock it. In the PlayStation version, Rayman Rush, the level is a part of Zone 1 and becomes playable after winning Electric Tunnel in the Championship mode.

As its name suggests, Lava Factory takes place in a volcanic land full of flowing lava and Robo-Pirate machinery.

Description
Rayman M
Lava Factory can be played in five modes in the single-player gameplay: Training, Race, Popolopoï (38 Popolopoïs), Lums (54 Yellow Lums) and On and On. The Race and the Kill Time modes are available for the multiplayer gameplay. Two checkpoint lines and six switches are featured.

The layout of the track is a simple squarish-in-shape loop. Lava Factory seems to be located in an environment similar to the one from the first section of the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire from Rayman 2, with green hills, rivers of flowing lava and volcanoes in the background. Various Robo-Pirate structures fill the landscape: wooden machinery, huge pipes, cauldrons and tanks, floors and walls made of rusty metal tiles. The players can face such obstacles as: electric barrels, robotic nettles, climbing walls, sliding ramps, oily mud, electric beams, crushing presses, moving platforms, dash boards, Purple Lums and bumpers.

Rayman Arena
In Rayman Arena, the map can be played in the Obstacle Racing and the Time Attack modes. It features two checkpoint lines and six switches, the same number as the PC and PlayStation 2 versions. If the Bonus mode is on during the multiplayer gameplay, 12 generators with bonuses are spread throughout the map.

The layout stayed mostly the same as in the Rayman M version of Lava Factory, save for a few obstacles. For example, the robotic nettles replace all the electric barrels that appeared in PC and PlayStation 2 variants of the game. Also, as in many other race stages in Rayman Arena, numerous baby Globoxes have been added on the sides of the track to cheer for the racers.

Rayman Rush
In Rayman Rush, the level can be played in five modes: Training, Championship, Time Attack, Lums (54 Yellow Lums) and Target (27 Popolopoïs). The track includes two checkpoint lines and four switches.

The base of the layout is similar to the other versions of Lava Factory in Rayman M and its ports, although many changes have been made. The environment is not as packed with the machinery and the color palette of the stage is warmer with a blank red sky always visible. Many obstacles are gone (e.g. electric barrels and Purple Lums) or have been changed, such as crushing presses, which have been replaced with moving blocks, or robotic nettles that have been changed for normal ones. Many alternative upper paths do not appear in Rayman Rush version either, especially in the first half of the course.

Trivia
*Lava Factory has three different names in the French versions of Rayman M and its ports. In the PC version it is called "Usine de Lave" (Eng. "Lava Factory"), but in the PlayStation 2 port is known as "Les Chaudrons" (Eng. "The Cauldrons"). However, in the French versions of Rayman Arena and Rayman Rush the stage is referred as "Vapeurs de Soufre" (Eng. "Sulfur Vapors").
*A location very similar to Lava Factory can be seen in the intro cutscene of Rayman M and Rayman Rush.
*In the single-player mode in Rayman Rush, the player always faces Tily as the opponent in Lava Factory, unless she is chosen as a character to play with.
*The theme played during Popolopoï mode in Lava Factory in the PC and PlayStation 2 versions of Rayman M is a remix of the theme of Coconut Island and is shared with Forest Jump.
*At some point in the development of the Rayman M for PC or PlayStation 2, a pair of cannons was featured in Lava Factory. The level also contained two crushing blocks, instead of two presses (these can still be seen in Rayman Rush), some switches were placed differently and slippery surfaces lacked animated texture (also just like in the Rayman Rush version of Lava Factory).
