Rewrote and expanded the article to give a better/more detailed overview of Band Land. Added four representative images (from the four levels) near the top. Thinned out the gallery because the article was frankly a bit overloaded with images.

Band Land (French: Le Ciel Chromatique, roughly The Chromatic Sky) is the second world in the original Rayman game. As its name suggests, it is a world which consists mainly of music and musical instruments.

Band Land is the second world in the original Rayman game. As its name suggests, it consists of a land made up of music and musical instruments, and it is set high in the sky. As Rayman makes progress through giant drums, flutes and xylophones, he must dodge wrong notes and spiky balls. Note that in the Rayman Junior games, a tiny version of those notes also exists. In this imaginary world, it is also possible to slide on musical staves, but one must be careful not to fall from the heights of this place. Fortunately, bongos are sometimes here to avoid a deadly fall. There are a lot of clouds and lightnings, and it is also known to snow here. As maracas rockets can be used to fly, walking drums help Rayman to reach inaccessible places by rebounding on them and flying blue elves give him the ability to shrink down in size. There are also strange sprinklers onto which Rayman can jump, and hitting sticks that beat the floor.

The enemies in Band Land include antitoons, hunters, moths, trumpets, lightning eyes, wrong notes, cymbals and red monsters. The boss is Mr Sax, a giant saxophone. Rayman will meet him in Allegro Presto, and fight him after a frantic chase in Mr Sax's Hullaballoo.

During his trek through Band Land, Rayman receives the power of the helicopter from Betilla the Fairy, at the end of Allegro Presto.

The first level of Band Land is Bongo Hills, a grassy terrain where vast instruments sprout from the ground. It is followed by Allegro Presto, is a cold, blue, vertiginous labyrinth of slippery musical staves. This is where Rayman first encounters Mr Sax, the malevolent giant saxophone who rules Band Land; and also where he receives the helicopter ability from Betilla the Fairy. The next level is Gong Heights, a balmy region of golden clouds and inhabited by meditating monks. The final level is Mr Sax's Hullaballoo, which resembles a combination of the three preceding levels. This is where Rayman finally confronts and defeats Mr Sax.

Sights such as giant drums, flutes and xylophones are characteristic of Band Land. Rayman often finds himself battling trumpets and moths while dodging dangerous wrong notes, spiky balls and cymbals. The 'ground' usually consists of drum material or slippery musical staves, from which the player must be careful not to fall. As Rayman progresses, he ascends higher into the sky: the levels feature increasing amounts of clouds, snow and lightning. Most of the platforms in Band Land are music-related: Rayman can use rocket-maracas to fly, bongos to cross chasms, and walking drums to reach inaccessible heights.

Rayman 4 (cancelled prototype)
At one point, members of Ubisoft were considering including 3D versions of levels from the original Rayman game in the fourth Rayman game. Several pieces of artwork were produced, including images of Band Land. However, the game was ultimately cancelled.
In 2005, Phoenix Interactive began work on a new 3D Rayman platform game tentatively titled Rayman 4. The developers intended to feature several environments from the original Rayman, including Band Land. Several pieces of artwork were produced. However, the game was ultimately cancelled.

In Rayman Origins
Rayman Origins
Rayman Origins features adjacent environments based directly on Band Land: the Desert of Dijiridoos and the Grumbling Grottos. These worlds combine Band Land's musical component with an arid desert landscape. It is not clear if these locations are part of Band Land, near Band Land, or simply different places that look strangely similar to Band Land.
