'''Whale Bay''' is a location in ''[[Rayman 2]]''. It follows [[the Canopy]] in all versions of the game but the PlayStation version, in which it follows [[the Bayou]], and [[Rayman 2 Forever|the Game Boy Color version]], in which it is set directly after [[the Marshes of Awakening]]. This is where [[Rayman]] rescues [[Carmen]] the Whale from the [[Robo-Pirate]]s who planned to use her blubber for fuel. She then takes him to a grounded ship, or to [[the Sanctuary of Water and Ice]] in the PlayStation version, where he will fight [[Axel]] and find [[Four Masks of Polokus|the first mask of Polokus]].

Whale Bay is the first level in the game to feature [[Barrel Pirate]]s--however, fighting these powerful enemies is avoidable.

The first half of Whale Bay takes place in the Whale Bay fortress, with [[Rayman]] attempting to locate the prison where [[Carmen]] the Whale is being held. In some versions of the game, one area in particular has respawning [[Robo-Pirate]]s.

===Phase 1===

[[Rayman]] exits the grounded ship and finds himself in a sunny lagoon with water sliding over a gentle slope at the edges. He can climb the netting to reach the top of the ship's mast, where a [[cage]] is hidden, and then use another net on one of the lagoon's walls to reach a cave guarded by a [[Gorilla Pirate]]. Disposing of him allows [[Rayman]] to break the last [[cage]] and free the [[Teensie]]. Finally, [[Rayman]] must slide down the water slope to reach the ledge where the [[Teensie]] opens the [[Spiral Door]] to end the level.

While this level remains the same as that in the original version, one of the six [[Glob Crystal]]s can be found in a hidden underwater cave in phase 3, where [[Carmen]] the Whale stops. The cave containing [[Glob Crystal|the Crystal]] exists in the original version as well, but there it contains only [[Red Lum]]s.

In the [[Rayman 2 (PlayStation)|PlayStation version]] of ''[[Rayman 2]]'', Whale Bay follows [[the Bayou]] level instead of [[the Canopy]]. The level is notably more difficult than in any other version, requiring the player to battle many camouflaged [[Barrel Pirate]]s where in other versions the player would have just had to journey through respawning [[Robo-Pirate]]s and not have to fight any [[Barrel Pirate]]s. It is possible, however, to avoid all encounters except for one. The ocean where [[Rayman]] rescues [[Carmen]] has been changed; instead of finding his way into a ship and triggering a [[switch]], he has to find 4 [[switch]]es around the ocean, similar to [[the Echoing Caves]].

''[[Rayman Revolution]]'' adds a connection between [[the Canopy]] and Whale Bay levels, compared to the odd linear connection in the other versions. Here, [[Rayman]] must rescue [[Globox]] from [[the Canopy]]; otherwise, one of the [[baby Globox]]es will not help [[Rayman]] elude the [[Robo-Pirate]]s guarding the entrance to Whale Bay. [[Rayman]] in addition profits from rescuing [[Carmen]]--[[Carmen]] then chases off the [[tentacle]] blocking the entrance to the nearby [[The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire|Sanctuary of Stone and Fire]].

In the PC, Dreamcast and iOS versions there is a texture which was accidentally left fully transparent in the game files. Because of this it does not appear in game where it should, leaving the level geometry to appear broken. This was never the case for the Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS or PlayStation versions and was fixed for the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo 3DS versions.
