This is the world of images, and also the world of mirages: passing across the stage of a small theatre, Rayman can find on his path beings straight from a pirate or a science fiction film. In particular, he meets Mama, an impressive shrew armed with a bizarre rolling pin...—Manual, Rayman
This is the world of images, as well as the world of mirages. Once he walks across the theater stage, Rayman meets strange beings that are straight out of a science fiction pirate movie. In the end, he'll face Space Mama, a tough cookie with a deadly rolling pin.—Manual, Rayman Forever
Picture City (French: La Cité des Images – The City of Images) is the fourth world in the original Rayman game. It consists of a land mainly made up of drawing materials, but Rayman will still find himself twice on the stage of a theatre.
Description
As Rayman makes progress among erasers, tables, pencils, yin-yangs, writing chalks and pens, he has to jump onto pencil sharpeners, dodging the drawing pins that stand in his way. Danger is omnipresent, as shown by the ink-covered erasers placed above the void, on which slipping down is irremediably followed by a deadly fall. Rayman must also pass over an ink sea as soon as he arrives, and he will find ink pots and paint buckets as he moves forward. Rayman will also find his super helicopter power, which he can temporarily use to pass through this strange world.
In the Maths and English with Rayman games, boxes full of ink, gouache tubes and palettes are part of this scenery.
The enemies in Picture City are Antitoons, hunters, and pirates. The boss is Space Mama, a large woman with blonde hair that is fought twice in the world, in Eraser Plains and Space Mama's Crater.
Once Rayman has defeated Space Mama for the second time, Mr Dark captures Betilla the Fairy.

Saves
This section lists saves for the PC version of the game. Instructions on how to implement them can be found here.
In other games
In Rayman 3, Picture City returns in 2D Nightmare, the twelfth and final minigame that can be unlocked and played. It is exclusive to the Nintendo GameCube version and is meant to be unlocked upon connecting the GameCube and the Game Boy Advance version of the game with all levels complete via a link cable. Due to a bug that makes the game never register the final level, Heart of the Ancients, as complete, it is impossible to unlock the minigame without cheats on either the GameCube or Game Boy Advance versions.
Another Rayman 3 minigame, entitled 2D Madness, takes place in the Dream Forest and features very similar gameplay and visuals to those of 2D Nightmare.

At one point, the developers at Phoenix Studio were considering the option of having Rayman return to Picture City, along with other locations from the original game, during his fourth outing. Some concept artwork was produced, depicting Picture City as it would appear in a 3D game. However, Rayman 4 was ultimately cancelled.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, which featured worlds based on those from the cancelled Rayman 4 prototype, a land known as the Child world appears. The Child world seems to be a combination of Picture City and the World of Toys, two lands which were planned to appear in Rayman 4.
