All levels (except Mr Dark's Dare) can be replayed an unlimited number of times, in any order. However, boss sections can only be played once; after the boss is defeated, the section will not reappear. This includes sections where bosses only make an appearance but which do not actually contain a boss fight. Similarly, sections where Rayman obtains new powers from Betilla the Fairy are only visited once. Cages that have been broken do not appear during subsequent playthroughs; this means that only the cages that were missed need to be located. In some cases, backtracking is necessary, because certain cages are out of reach until Rayman gains a particular power. Finally, extra lives that have been collected (including from bonus levels) also do not reappear, making it impossible to accumulate extra lives by replaying easier levels. However, Tings appear in every playthrough, and can be instrumental for extra life accumulation.

PC version 1.21 has unique behavior, whereby after Mr Dark's Dare is complete, entering any section in any world, displays the first image of the intro sequence from the Atari Jaguar version, with the level number written over it. The number is that of the first level in that section. For example, Allegro Presto will display "Level 7", Mr Skops' Stalactites - "Level 9" and Mr Dark's Dare - "Level 1". It is unknown whether this behavior is intentional or due to a bug. After pressing any button, the game proceeds normally.
In PC version 1.21 only, after Mr Dark's Dare is complete, entering any section in any world, presents the sub-level selection screen. This allows any sub-level, including boss and Betilla encounters, to be revisited. However, Mr Dark's Dare itself cannot be replayed. The same behavior can be achieved in all PC versions through a cheat code.
