Talk:Globox's species
The meaning of the word Glute
I have seen that on the English RayWiki, the word Glute appears on many pages, which concern Globox and every member of his species.
I know that this word comes from Rayman 3:Hoodlum Havoc, where he can be heard in a lot of sentences of Globox. As well in the English version than in the French version. Some people, due of the place of this word in those sentences have wondered if Glute could be the name of Globox's species. There was some discussions on the Pirate-Community forum, notably on the topic called 'Globox's species' some years ago (2008 to 2010). But as the opinions was different, the word haven't been adopted as the name of Globox's species.
But the word is now present on the RayWiki. According to the histories of the articles where this word appears, Glute had been added shortly before or after the release of Rayman Orgins. I think I know why. The only occurrence of this word in Rayman Orgins is in this sentence of Polokus:
"The one and only Globox! Biggest glute in the Glade!"
When people saw this sentence, they thought that it was an indisputable piece of evidence that Globox is a Glute, like the other members of his species. That's why this word is present on RayWiki, and that many people use it now.
But Glute is not the name of Globox's species.
What allows me to tell this? What we can see in the French version of Rayman Orgins. And too what we can heard in the French version of Rayman 3:Hoodlum Havoc.
Let me explain.
Here's the sentence that we can read in the French version of Rayman Origins, when you pull on the beard of Polokus.
"Voilà Globox, le seul et l'unique ! Le plus gros popotin de la Croisée !".
The sentence has the same meaning in the English version and the French version.
But what is popotin? It's a French word. It's a colloquial word, usually use by children, to refer to... the behind, the buttock...
Polokus doesn't say that Globox is the biggest of his species. He said that Globox has the biggest buttock of his species! That's more logical, and funnier too.
So, I think it's clear.
Glute doesn't refer to Globox's species, but to his buttock!
And the fact that Glute refer to Globox's buttock is confirmed in the sentences of Rayman 3:Hoodlum Havoc where this word appears.
Sometimes, Globox said something like "Gaseous glute!". It seems to be a swearword. I think you see the connection between 'gas' and 'buttock'. In the French version, the swearword used by Globox is "Pet de glute !". 'Pet' means 'Fart'. I think I don't need to explain. Glute refers again to Globox's buttock.
Another example, with the sentence that Globox said when he is hanging on a grappling hook, in the Hoodlum Headquarters. In the French version, the sentence is easier to understand than in the English version. Globox says:
"Amis joueurs, vous serez à coup sûr étonnés d'apprendre que votre serviteur est constitué de 816 polygones. Quand on sait que la glute elle-même n'en comprend que 318, on imagine aisément, ce qui fait de moi-même la pointe en matière d'évolution 3D."
In fact, and like the English version I think, Globox says that he is composed of 816 polygons, and that his glute includes 316 polygons on 816 polygons. Yep, it's clear. Globox speaks about his buttock. They are so enormous that they composed a certain part (316 polygons!) of this body.
So, Glute doesn't refer to Globox's species, but to his buttock. And I am not the first person who advances this theory. -- Boomboleros7 03:00, 6 June 2012 (CEST)
